Last season: 9-17, lost to Manual 60-18 in 25th District semifinal.


Player to watch: Freshman Mikaela Wright, a 5-4 point guard, averaged 13.5 points as an eighth-grader. “She has good three-point range,” Pollock said. “She doesn’t blow by you, but she has a nice hesitation move and will shoot some floaters. She does a little bit of everything.”


Other top players: G/F Michelle Kommor (5-6, Jr.); F Paige Ganzel (5-8, Jr.); G/F Sara Hansen (Sr.); C Hannah Watene (6-0, Sr.).


Outlook: Pollock is the Amazons’ fourth coach in four seasons, having replaced Joel Morris, who now coaches the boys’ team. The two were roommates at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. “I’m completely new to the city and state … so it’s tough to know what we’re up against,” said Pollock, who most recently coached at a South Carolina middle school. “But I’ve been impressed with their willingness to buy in, especially on defense.”
