who wins and why

Holy Cross is looking for another chance to get past NCC. They like the fact that undefeated Owen is in their path. Holy Cross has given up 0 points in the last two games and scored 109 in just over 6 qtrs. Owen has a lot from this season to hang their hat on but Holy Cross will be to much for them this year. Holy Cross 45-21.

I dont see OC's recievers being to much for HC and actually the other way around. HC will spread the def by passes to recievers behind the cb' all night. Then once the d is spread they will unleash the run. I believe OC's d will be guessing all night.

They will put up some points early but by the end of the game they will be to beat up to run or pass.

It's not the OC offense that better be good, but it better be their defense. Holy Cross will match point for point unless they can be stopped. Holy Cross's Kyle Fuller is one of the best QB's in the state and he will pick apart a weak defense!

That's a good observation, Stardust. In the last two games, Kyle's release has been quicker and he is going through his progressions faster and not locking into one receiver. I even saw him throw it away a couple times last Friday night when nobody was open! In the NCC game he held the ball too long while attempting to survive on just athletic ability. While successful with a long pass and a long run in the first half, the Breds adjusted well in the second half. It has also helped that he is not the sole source for the run. Beal and Pouncy have raised their game to give HC a powerful three-headed monster in the backfield.

Interesting question: Does Holy Cross blitz hard like they have in most of their games this year, or do they play pass and bait Owen into running it?

Owen County has some very tall recievers especially Williams
I have watched some of the IHigh replays and it seems to me
that they depend on this height advantage a lot
Their QB seems to get the ball close and they make the catch
a lot of arch on the passes and sometimes errant
IF Holy Cross blitzes with success then that pressure could
result in maybe 2 to 4 interceptions with the speed HC has.

We shut down Carson Butcher, that Hopkins kid from bourbon, and the QB for newport. All kids that are great athletes and were supposed to school us. I've seen the game film and HCC's QB has an awful lot of time to throw it but we have a beast d-line with sawyer williams all state honorable mention d end, plus our linebackers are going to be right there if he wants to scramble. I dont think they've beat a team with a defense as good or better than us.

Crazy leads to errors. HC will capitalize all night long.
11-09-2011, 01:03 AM
Good Luck with containing Fuller you will see the best QB you have seen all year and as far as the Klette kid he is big but wears down late he will be a load to take down that is for sure. The problem for OC is they will have to cover 4 athletic receivers not 1 or 2 , its not easy and they really dont have the speed to do that. If they want to win this they better run the ball and keep HC of the field. The thought process should be the best DEF is ball control Off for OC.

I actually saw them run against Lloyd and if they run like that friday, they'll lose by a lot. stick to passing the ball

Rushing Comparison
watched the OC/GC game
Owen rushed 45 yards on 24 carries or 1.87 y/carry
saw NCC rush 9.9 y/c vs GC 247 yd/25 carries
HCC vs Carroll
362 yd 27carries 13.4 yd/c for HC
OC vs CC
235 yd 31 7.5 y/
more important
on defense HC only allowed 20 yards
OC allowed 338 yards
turn overs lost
CC 1 OC 4 and CC 4 HC 0
OC 5 GC 4 NCC 0 GC 2
HC 1 NCC 2
odds are turn overs will curse Owen again
OC had 3 picks GC had 4 vs CC
GC had none vs 2nd and 4th string NCC QB and little pressure
HC was all over NCC 1st string QB and had a pick any almost 2 more
Special teams play will also be a factor, I think the Indians will take field position advantage in that department.

OC cannot turn the ball over on Friday like they have late in the season and in the first round (I think they turned it over 4 times vs Newport) if they want to have a shot at winning. They can have a negative TO differential against Carroll, Gallatin, Ludlow, and Newport, and still win, but do that against Holy Cross and these 28 point blowout predictions will become reality.
