Best Duos of All-Time
#1
Who are the two best single offensive players to start alongside each other in Kentucky history?

A few off the top of my head:

Lorenzen-Smith @ Highlands
Hackney-Duramus @ Pikeville
Jones-Howard @ Belfry
Gross-Clark @ Russell
Bush- Montrell Jones @ Male
#2
^ I saw Lorenzen and Smith and they were a lot of fun to watch
#3
Duper and Clayton!

IF your talking about QB &WR pairings then

Highlands: what about Guidugli to Hamblen?
Trinity: Brohm to somebody?
Leslie Co: Tim Couch had a speedy WR that caught most of his passes
Highlands: and a new one Towles to Sheehan
Lone Oah: QB Robinson maybe? that broke all those records?

I do believe that would be Hackney-Deramus @ Pikeville, Alum. Jones-Howard @ Belfry would certainly have to be at or near the top on this list.

You are correct..edited.

BTW for the poster who mentioned it Baker was Couch's favorite target.

I don't say this because it's my dad, I say this because of what all the old timers have said and the stories I have heard.

1978 Paintsville RB B.J. Ward and FB Don Jarrell, and to top it off, throw in the QB David LeMaster and you had a very dangerous backfield back in the day at Paintsville.

If you had said defensive duo's, I'd have to say the LB duo of Keith Gillispie and Don Jarrell also.

Again, I don't say this because it's my dad, I'm sure there are plenty of the "old timers" on here who can back me up on this, not just supporters from Paintsville, but from other schools as well.

Lone Oak was Robinson to Brown I do believe, after robinson left brown put up pretty good passing numbers himself.

Hackney and Deramus...and Chad Thornsbury (sp?) the third back was great and would have been a star on any other team in Kentucky. Those 3 were the best backfield ever and Matt Blair at QB was a good leader as well. Then add Robbie Wright and Chris McNamee as receivers before you even get into what a great line and defense but I digress....Hackney and Deramus and Thornsbury best backfield in Kentucky ever.

West = 7,725 rushing yards career. 93 TD's
Parker = 4,736 recieving yards career. 52 TD's

Lawrence County 1997 and 98

They didn't play together all 4 years but I have never seen two better players on the field for the same team at the same time.

Parker is the #2 Reciever all time in KY for yards and West was the #3 RB all time in yards before this season started. I just don't think we will ever see that kind of tandem again?

At one point in their senior year, they had hooked up for 36 completions with 18 of them going for a touchdown.

Agreed! They had something like 5000 combined yards between the 3 of them in '87. Youre right about Thornsbury. He was a BEAST as well!

4 sure Jp. Hackney would have had more total yds. in 87' had it not been for an ankle sprain where he missed 2 or 3 regular season games #34 and # 42, the best ever ,imo.

JT Britt and Andy Downing of Lewis County in 2007. Lewis was awful that year. But that was mostly because their defense gave up 52 points per game. They had a pretty good offense and almost all of their production came from Downing throwing to Britt. Britt finished the year with a state-record 99 catches and 1,360 yards in just 10 games. Downing finished the season with 2,111 yards and 18 touchdowns in 9 games. Not bad for a team that finished the season with 18 players.
#29
Scott Russell(HB) and Brad Kirby(FB) @ Evarts
i think the year was either 90, 91, 92. not sure, but they beat pikeville that year after they won the state title for idk how many years in a row, and went undefeated in the regular season and lost to bellvue in the simifinals
Scott broke the all time KY state russing record that year and was Mr.Football, and Brad was blocking for him the whole way.
