How did Ashland move the ball? Any stats available?
Congrats to Ashland on the district title. Hopefully Belfry can utilize the game tape to try to defend Jude successfully as well.

sstack Wrote:would you say their D is built on speed or size? And have you seen them go up against a top notch passing team or a balance Offense? Cov Cath has a lot of size and Highlands has speed and great passing game, so looking for how both teams would match up with Ashland.Ashland has decent size. The front four: 6'3" 235, 5'11" 260, 6'0" 230, 6'3" 235. For the most part, the defense has very good speed. Inside LBs 6'0" 225, 5'10" 185. DBs are big and fast. OLB do not have great size but get to the ball quickly, contain well, and are big hitters. I agree that they have been vulnerable to the quick hit inside. As for balanced offenses, I don't know that Ashland has necessarily seen this, especially offenses like HHS and CC. Ashland has faced speed in George Washington (who had an outstanding line, albeit of average size. The two RBs are both DI talent). Rowan County was huge, but appeared quite slow (probably because of the field conditions. Wing is a D1 QB, but, respectfully, I suspect he is not on the level of Towles). Belfry was big and fast. Ashland had a difficult time stopping the run up the middle in that game but neutralized Belfry's speed fairly well. Ironton started 3 OL over 300 lbs who moved well. Ashland gave up yards in that game, but not points as they caused 5 fumbles with 4 lost by Ironton. The DBs are great in run support and also do a very good job in coverage. In fairness though, I don't think that they have really been tested by a potent passing attack Defensively, it is a pretty decent team (1 Soph, 5 jrs, 5 Srs). They really don't crowd the box, although the DBs can occasionally get caught short in being overly aggressive in pursuit of the run. The kids have done a good job implementing the defensive plans each game and battled some injuries early on (both inside LBs, Safety). Things seem to be gelling though at the right time.

Speed is what makes Ashlands D good. They were soft on the fullback up the middle only place Belfry could run. Have not got to see Jude play this year but I think Belfrys D can contain him they have been tough against the run this year.:Shaking:

Hope u can make sense out of those stats couldnt get the team name over each column. But some of the stats don't look right? I no JCC fumbled more than 2 times they had at least 3 in first half alone an few more in second half an I was certain Jude had less than 60 total rushing yards?

Guys if you lose you lose, take that loss and build on it and prepare for your next game.
Congrats Tomcats.
JC needs to put this behind them and move on and get ready for next week's game against another tough opponent in Belfry.

It was remember Ashland had a holding penalty five yards in there own backfield on the first drive that moved them back 20 yards as they were going to score. Then fumbled inside the JC five at the end of the first half. Then while on the move in the 4th shot themselves in the foot with 4 penalties in a row. One or two plays kept this from being 40-6

Dear Mr. Logic,
Here's the kicker, you are being a little overly sensitive to my post. The Daily Independent had Mr. Jude at 81 yards. I will go with that for my discussion, that young man can play for anyone, anywhere. And by the way, did you like how I worked in the word the kicker?

JC let's get focused for next Friday night. Also would like to recognize Trent Davis, Kudos to you for doing what you did for your fellow teammates..Good Luck next Friday night to both of these teams.

Agree with you Eagle Fan. Hard fought game. Let's hope for an Ashland vs. JC re-match.

I'm curious as to why Jude only got 18 touches. Doesn't he normally get about 30? Does JC pass the ball that much more than they normally do? This doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone have an explanation?

They were behind in the game and had to try to score quickly. That really takes the running game out of the equation

I think the reason that JJ didn't get very many carries in this game is due to their inability to sustain drives. JC had 5 first downs the entire game and Ashland was able to put together some long drives and were able to convert on several key 3rd and short situations. I'm not exactly sure of the time of possession for JC, but I would estimate that Ashland controlled the ball for 2/3 of this contest. Hats off to Ashland on the big win. JC just needs to put this one behind them and set their eyes on the game this week. Best of luck to both throughout the remainder of the season.

Looked like after they realized he wasn't going to be effective running the ball they started using him as a decoy put him out at split-end an tried running the Qb some as well as another back. They had somebody hitting him everyplay. Probably thought that would free something else up? Just didn't seem matter Ashland was too much for them.

Ashland fans, how was JC up front on both sides of the ball?

There a very solid football team no doubt an are without a doubt second best in our district... That said, they've been overated all year long #6 in 4a had them above Ashland most of the year? Ashland was 11th last week after losing to a great belfry dropped like 4-5 spots? But the line play wasn't terrible they would give alot of teams trouble.

You know I am a Belfry fan man.. lol How do you think we will match up? We lost #28 our little quick TB to a broken nose this past Friday. But we still have our stud FB and the rest of the crew.
I think it will be a super close game, but since you guys saw us both recently, how do specifically the LOS's match up IYO?

Belfry has a huge advantage at the line of scrimage if they play like they did against the tomcats

Probably because there is not much to say. The best team won this game, which was not the case against PCC earlier this year. So I'd say no one has much to say about it. When you get beat by a better team there usually isn't much to say. However, I will say this... It would be great to get another chance to play Ashland this year in playoffs. Matney is hard to beat twice in the same season. However, for this to happen hell may have to freeze over... lol Or pigs may have to fly...

LOL, Ashland feels the same way about Belfry. Believe me Ashland fans know how hard the pill of defeat is to swallow. The worst was during the 2009 season when Ashland wound up with a 1 point loss at your stadium after coming back from a 16-0 early deficit to take the lead. That one hurt. Especially when you consider in the closing seconds of the first half the Cats were on your 3? yard line with a couple of downs left to punch it into the endzone and failed to capitalize.

I will say this though... The Ashland game may turn out to be the game that changes the outcome for the JC - Belfry game this friday night. Im assuming Belfry will have the same type D that we seen outa Ashland which could present problems for Belfry after JC makes this weeks adjustments. The thing that has made problems for JC this year is that the are so young it has been hard for them to make adjustments. The great thing about this weeks game is they have a week to work on their adjustments.

From what I saw Im not sure adjustments are gonna do the trick? IMO JCC doesnt have the personnel to get the job done against belfry defensively. Offensively if they can acquire a passing game in the "adjustments" an hold a block better than they showed against us they would have a chance. But belfrys line is really good on both sides of the ball!

Great quote! I am a JC fan and I am proud of them this year. This is the youngest group Matney has placed on the field since he has been at JC and they have all had quality playing time. This equates into nothing but good. We just need to have patience, JC has the most talent in the pipeline I have ever seen. Things will be much better next year, in fact I predict a few surprises the rest of this year.
Again, I am a mountian fan, but with CC and FTH so strong this year, I think it will be an early exit for the mountains this year.
Ashalnd seniors enjoy your much desevered victory, you earned it. Look forward to turning this around next year at the Nest.

Appreciate the kind words. Next year's edition will feature the same players on the line. On defense ILB'rs Justice and Swift will return. D line will be exactly the same except for Corey Gregg who is a senior. Where Ashland may be losing something without him, O'Bryan, Ellis, Johnson and Armstrong should be the envy of the district next year. CJ Johnson has real size and is showing good promise to replace Gregg at defensive end so, no let up on the line.
With you all losing Jude this year and Ashland losing their senior skill group it looks to be about a wash on paper for next year. Ashland has a good QB (another lefty) coming at you with a good arm. He looks and plays more like a full back. RB Watts is back and he wil be a terror. I'll save the rest of the scouting report for next year.
