You can count on the Ashland game being a dandy. It's at Ashland in the bowl!
Congrats JC!

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â

Matney taking a knee on the extra point to keep the score 44 to nothing and no running clock might have been the most classless act Ive ever seen. Then to add to it having his kids not even try to tackle the GC kid on the next kickoff is unbelievable.

Then how come Greenup Co. didn't score on the kickoff? Are GC players so uncoordinated they cant score with no opposition or are they do dumb they get lost and can't figure out where the endzone is...lol

our freshman kickoff team was in u idiot , and the running clock should have already been on when we kicked the last field goal, its called not running the score up. but hell u probably root for a team that just hopes to score

Lol, why do you continue to take up for and make excuses for the crap that Matney does. I know you are smarter than what you make yourself out to be on here (that is what you said to me when I questioned Matney's play calling). There is NOTHING that warrants crap like this. Some are gonna get on here and say that Matney left JJ in because he was playing with a heavy heart, playing for his cousin who just passed away from a tragic accident. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Stafford family and JJ, but that's no excuse. It's even more evident after this game that the only thing Matney is worried about is getting JJ the rushing record. I just hope JJ doesn't get hurt in the 4th quarter of a game with JC up by 50.
Congrats JC...

Its about stats, how as a coach do you let a kid rush for 350 yards on a team that is struggling.

I could care less about the Paintsville score, I predicted the young Tigers to get blowed out. Last I checked, I can root for whoever I want to, and like I have my entire life, I root for JC (when they aren't playing Pville). I root for JC, I just aint drinkin the kool-aid that Matney has everybody else over there drinkin. You know my name, congrats, everybody on this site does, I dont hide behind a screen name. I was mearly asking a question in responce to a stupid statement. Can you explain why Greenup couldn't score, based on the fact that JC kids were "allegedly" instructed to not tackle anybody?
Congrats JC...
What you have to realize here is that Kosar is the "King" of making every excuse in the book for Greenup's ineptness in every sport. This post was very common in intent, yet as always original. I will give him credit though, the kid is a genius at creativity.

You're clueless,if Johnson Central's kickoff team was instructed not to tackle the Greenup returner then why did he get tackled? Quit making excuses and man up. You're probably the same coward that was screaming at our post game huddle as we were about to say our prayer.

I think he means the final kickoff of the game. That's the one that mystifies me completely. You don't tackle the returner when it's 58-0 and you let GC score...but if the idea of that was just to get Jude an extra carry or two in the final seconds, then he didn't give him the football on the last play. So that wasn't to get J.J. extra carries, obviously. I think he just hates to shut any team out, period.

Better watch out saying things like that.

Kayaker Wrote:Better watch out saying things like that.Johnson Central's success in the Matney era has also had a lot to do with superior conditioning of its key players. That conditioning is not complete when players play only a half with the playoffs fast approaching. If Jude and other key players, who will need to play both ways in the playoffs, are not in top "game" condition, it will not matter whether they are healthy or not - they will get worn down by teams like Covington Catholic and Highlands that employ an almost exclusive two-platoon system.hh: That was my point as well, how could you justify a stud back like JJ being hurt when the team has already built a comfortable lead against a weak team. Every game down the stretch from here on out JC is going to need to be at full strength and probably playing JJ the entire game can be justified but not it this one. I love where the JC program has come from, pretty much risen from the ashes by Jim Matney, but I dont have to like the new direction. Thats all Im gonna say about that.
I am not a mind reader, but I suspect that is why Matney gives players like Jude more snaps as the season progresses. At the same time, Matney has never been one to run the score up in games. I am sure that both Matney and Jude would trade the rushing record for a shot at a state title. I recall on more than one occasion northern Kentucky fans predicting blow out losses to Highlands because Matney allowed teams like Scott to score far more points than they had against Highlands and other NKY teams. I expect that it will happen again this season as well, as everybody seemed to write off JC as a contender following an early season loss to Perry County Central.
I think that if you had been fortunate enough to have played for Coach Matney, you would have a much different perspective. I also suffered through three miserable seasons of Humphrey and Ross's inept coaching - not as a player, but as a parent. To watch talented teams get worse from the first scrimmage of the season instead of better is a painful thing to witness.
Don't automatically attribute the worst possible motives to Coach Matney's game decisions. Nobody but he will ever understand his unique approach to the game, but it works and players and parents alike are generally very glad that he finally accepted the job at Johnson Central.

Their is one thing I can say that most people without black and gold tinted glasses on will agree with. Jim matney likes to pad stats over his career. Redneck got blasted for saying that and i think its crazy that people say that it isnt true.Only thing redneck says that I don't agree with is when he implies that matney isn't a good coach. Matney is an excellent ball coach and that cant be disputed. In 91 when he had an athlete break the passing record for passing yards in a game it was in a blow out of a terrible Allen central football team. Last season, that game against woodford co was sad. Embarrassed that poor team on their senior night to break that rushing record. Matney wins a lot of ball games every season and I have respect for what he has done for the jc program but I don't agree with padding stats for players. The game of football is not an individual sport it's a team sport and it would be a very sad night if Jude got hurt in a blow out game when he should be sitting on the bench. That would hurt the team badly if something like that were to happen.

Good points and now rethinking it i would have to say I agree. Those were some things that I hadnt thought of. It is much nicer to have civil disaggrements and to share insights rather than to call people out and speak with the maturity of a 6 year old.
Good post Hoot.
