Yeah, I think we've finally got enough games behind us to start getting this narrowed down to the top 10 in each class. There will still be a bit of sorting out to do in order to determine the best order. I know the 4A that I worked on is the same 10 teams from BGR, Massey, and the AP. Haven't checked the other classes.

Maybe not if they keep it respectable. Loosing to Christian County won't necessarily mean that they're not Top 10 worthy. Christian County is just really good. It will eliminate the 0 in their 5-0 record.

Madisonville dropped down to 4A from 5A last year where Ohio County was in there district, Im not trying to take anything away from a program that is having there best season since Prince was there in the 90's, I just believe that the quality of opponents they've played this year is very low, I agree if they keep the score with County respectable they may deserve to be in the top 10 in the state but I really dont see that happening. Christian's defense STOPS the run and that is what Ohio County relies on with the Murphy kid and the inside and outside veer.

#4 ranked Fairview is 5-0 against bottom of the barrel 3 and 4A teams. Their combined win/loss record is 5-20. KCD is the same way. They are 5-1 against bottom of the barrel 2,4 and 5A teams. Their combined win/loss record is 8-23. They only played 1 team with a winning record (2A Carroll Co.)and they lost. Hazard,Pikeville and Harlan have played solid competition. Most of the teams they have played have winning records. Seems to me they aren't getting any respect for it. To be 5-0 and not play a team with a winning record and recieve a first place vote and move over top of a team that has played solid teams is confusing to me. Is their anybody out there that thinks that Fairveiw could beat Hazard, other than the nut that gave fairview a first place vote? I guess we really won't know how good Fairview is until they play Raceland on Oct. 14th. The same with KCD,They play Holy Cross on Oct. 6.

I would rank Hazard over Fairview because of their schedule and recent playoff success. I would definitely rank Fairview over both Pikeville and Harlan.

I agree with what you have said concerning Hazard and Harlan. I'm not so sure about Fairview over Pikeville. I know we will get a better view of Fairview when they play Raceland. I don't see anybody on Fairview's schedule that Pikeville couldn't have beaten. As far as Harlan Goes,if they don't get the mental block out of their head they will go out of the offs in the 1st rd. Hopefully the loss to Leslie Co. will clear their head. They should not have lost that game. I started seeing problem's during their win over Lynn Camp. Their problem's are with their offense the defense played well against Leslie.

Fairview has never played a very tough schedule but they have been holding their own in most match-ups with Raceland and LCA in recent years and that is more than can be said of Pikeville. Even with their weak schedule, Massey has Fairview ranked well ahead of Pikeville.

yea everyone killed Ohio County, Madisonville has a very good shot at the finals in the west, all the big boys are on the east side, would love to see them make it ,where i went to school, and then see my Pirates be there to,lived there 8 yrs...

Belfry is only 2 points behind Bell Co. in 3A.
I haven't seen Bell Co. play, but Belfry has been impressive thus far through their relatively moderate schedule.

Last year in the playoffs hazard beat Pikeville for the region 59-34 and LCA beat Fairview 23-12. Hazard beat LCA 31-30. So I would give Fairview the defensive edge and Pikeville the offensive edge. This year they are all lumped into the same region with no Hazard or LCA. I can't tell much about Fairview yet but in my opinion Pikeville is a little tougher than they were last season. Their region is definately going to be competitive this year. The team that wins that region will have to beat the other two to do it. With the three being Raceland,Pikeville and Fairview. It's unlikely,But Allen Central (should in all likelihood win in the first round) is a team, that if they catch their second round team not on their toes, could pull off an upset. Improbable but not impossible.

The Hazard and Pikeville score is somewhat decieving because i think pikeville only scored 2 twice on the starting defense last year then the jv came in and made the score loser.
LCA beat Fairview in the early season by 20 points and in the playoffs only beat them by 11. Fairview did outstandingly better the playoff game but they wasnt in any really close games besides that one and they lost as LCA pulled away at the end. Wait i take that back they barely beat williamsburg by 7 who hazard hazard beat like 47 points.

All Associated Press members in Kentucky are eligible to participate in the high school football poll. Those who voted for this week's poll are: The Daily Independent, Ashland; Daily News, Bowling Green; The News-Enterprise, Elizabethtown; The State Journal, Frankfort; Daily Enterprise, Harlan; The Gleaner, Henderson; Kentucky New Era, Hopkinsville; Lexington Herald-Leader; The Courier-Journal, Louisville; The Middlesboro Daily News; The Paducah Sun; Appalachian News Express, Pikeville; The Winchester Sun; WAVE; WKYX; WLKY; WTVQ.
Other than 1A and 2A, I think the other classes are playing for runner-up barring a stunning upset. The number one ranked teams in 3,4,5 and 6A should all win their respective class.

The thing with High School human polls is really difficult to add in strength of schudule into the equation.
Look at Bardstown in 2A they're 5-0 but they've played 2 winless teams and the other 3 have each just won a single game. After looking at Fairview schudule same can be said for them I think the teams they beat have won 4 games

I have to disagree with the person who said Fariview should be ranked ahead of Pikeville. Pikeville has at least proven themselves against some competition so far this season. Fairview on the other hand hasnt proved anything besides that their coaches and AD put A LOT of work into setting up that schedule this year. It takes a lot of searching to find that many weak teams for one schedule. Cant wait to see them get on the field with someone that can play.

And that's one of the biggest problems in the 6 class system IMO, is that several teams are in 4 or 5 teams districts. That allows for 6-7 non district games and teams that are not very good can get a winning record. And you look at the distances some of these teams travel to play a certain team to pick up a win is unreal, when they have teams besides similar in size that they refuse to play.

Fairview getting alot of attention on this thread must mean you guys are scared or something? Talking about weak teams, scheduling, etc. Why don't you worry about your own programs and just applaud Fairview for building a solid program. Why should they say sorry for winning, maybe the teams they play need to get better. My view is that 10 years from now it doesn't matter who you played it's all about matchups. Some teams matchup well against Fairview or a Hazard and other teams do not. I agree the teams Fairview has played haven't been great but the bashing of their program has to stop because all they do is win. I believe Coach McPeek is 32-10 in just over 3 seasons I don't care who you are playing that is getting it done. Fairview had never won a road playoff game in the history of the school since 1970 and yes I know they were matched up with NKY. However, they have won 4 playoff games in 3 years and they deserve some credit not bashing like you all are doing. Are they better than Hazard and Pikeville year in and year out probably not but at the same time these kids and coaches work extremely hard and deserve some props.

Respectfully,RussellPride,I haven't seen anyone "bash" Fairview. We all are just wondering how good they really are. We can't tell because of the schedule they are playing. I hope they are everything you say they are. But is it fair to the other teams that have played solid competition? Fairview might be a really solid team and if they are they have a good shot at making it to the semi's,IMO. They will have to beat Raceland and Pikeville to do it. Personally I think they match up pretty good with the likes of Raceland,Pikeville,Harlan and Williamsburg. But I just don't think they are on the same level as Hazard and Holy Cross. Take Hazard out of the picture and our side of the state would be,IMO,the most competitive side in all of Kentucky high school football. But on the same token,Hazard is not unbeatable. I think that next year Fairview should add a couple of really tough teams to their schedule. That way when they win or play'em really well, they will get the proper respect they deserve. But that's just my opinion and I have a lot of those.

Well, then, there you have it!
I'm sure Highlands will see no need to make any changes to their game plan, if there comes another game against the Colonels, and with your keen observations, Cov Cath will walk all over Highlands at Highlands.:hilarious:
