South floyd defeats letcher central 2-1
#1
South Floyd traveled to Letcher Central where they defeated the Cougars 2 games to 1 (25-18; 18-25; 25-22) This was a contest in which both teams played hard. Congrats to the RAIDERS on a hard earned win and congrats to the Cougars for a great effort and never giving up. The fans in attendance got their money's worth:1:

Wow. Two losses to 15th region teams (Pikeville and South Floyd) in 4 days. Weren't they undefeated before Pikeville beat them Saturday? I know Letcher is a VERY good team. Congrats to the Raiders, and also to the Cougars on what sounds like a very exciting game.

Very competitive, hard earned win for South Floyd and Coach Smallwood! Will see you again this weekend in Bath County. LCC needs these matches to become toughened for upcoming tourney play. 14th region is so weak. Consistency is a problem.

That used to be the case here in the 15th. But now, for the most part, MOST matches are very competitive in the 15th, but not all. Hang in there, some schools just take longer. The former coach here at Pikeville really put a focus on the middle school ages, had 3 teams for junior high (A, B, C) and the girls developed well. This year's freshman class has now played together for 4 years (with the exception of a couple), so they are going to be very good. Freshman team has mostly 8th graders and one 7th grader playing up so they can get better. Last year's freshman team was actually all 8th graders. Smart way to develop the bench talent for future success.

LCC has had in it place for a time now. We are lucky to get anyone in the 14th to play a freshmen game. Even though we have feeder programs, only Letcher Elementary plays it on a high level year in and year out.
Pikeville is doing it right and the 15th region is better off for it. Competition breeds better teams and play.

Very entertaining game to watch, there were no easy points tonight. Kids all over the floor, making plays throughout the gym, nice game.
