Wow GRC got 3 votes....suprised.

2A is either extremely deep this year or Prestonsburg is just getting overlooked.
You would think the Perry win over Johnson Central would have helped Prestonsburg in the eyes of some of the votes, but I guess majority of them aren't all that familiar with far East Kentucky.

Bell Co #2 in 3A sounds about right after beating #8 in 6A Lafayette on the road.

I guess Boyle County's loss to Highlands doesn't count since they're 2 and 0.

Good gosh, man...I know it has been stated ad nauseum here, but it bears repeating again....
3A IS A FREAKING BEAR!!!!!
Look at teams 1-8...I would love to see some of the playoff games in this class this year. (Really not...because that would mean my Blackats were knocked out early...).

Thank you KHSAA, for the watered down version of KY High School football!

How is Corbin still at 8th with a record of 0-2. Don't get me wrong I think Corbin is probably a very good 0-2 team but I think you should be un-ranked with that record. Move them back in when they notch a few wins. Which I am sure they will do soon.

LOL, Simon Kenton still getting votes????
08-30-2011, 09:00 PM
this poll is a joke. Does not even have the teams records correct. Male is 1-1? Another poster said other teams were wrong as well. Just votin for names not the on the field performance this year.
08-30-2011, 09:32 PM
2A is pretty deep, but Middlesboro at #11 is a bit of a stretch, particularly given their schedule thus far.
Unless I'm very much surprised on Saturday morning, Bell County will expose them a bit this week, I think.

2A is crazy this year I feel as though NCC, Somerset, Danville, Covington Holy Cross, and Owensboro catholic all have shot to win State this year. Whats funny is NCC & Holy Cross are in the same District and Danville & Somerset are in the same District. With the winners of those districts in the playoff meeting before the championship. This is why I think that Owensboro Catholic might be the # 1 team in the state, they should have a chance to rest guys during their playoff run and that is important for small schools. Just look what happened last year with NCC VS Owensboro Catholic.

Same can be said for Dixie Heights in 6A, who has given up 950+ yards of offense in their 1st 2 games.

Whitley gets beat 30-0 and somehow gets votes. Their record is 0-1, soon to be 0-2 with another shutout.

Guys it's pretty simple. They are not very many teams outside of mediocre in this state.

Does someone have a list of who gets to vote on this?
08-31-2011, 10:13 AM
I don't know who in particular votes on this, but I am pretty sure that this is voted on by local newspapers. I believe what happens is these sports writers vote for the teams they know about (their local teams) and then the rest is voted on based off of name recognition/tradition. That's the only thing that explains what you see in this pole all the time.
Plus things are watered down a little bit with the 6 class system. I like the idea of having more classes because it helps prevent the same teams winning the state championship every year. But it also allows teams to make the playoffs by default.

^ I think it's blind mice and when they pluck a piece of cheese with a school name on it, then BAM - that's who gets ranked!!!

As reported here:
http://www.cleveland.com/newsflash/index...9f34f26534
All Associated Press members in Kentucky are eligible to participate in the high school football poll. Those who voted for this week's poll are: Daily News, Bowling Green; The Advocate-Messenger, Danville; The News-Enterprise, Elizabethtown; The Gleaner, Henderson; Kentucky New Era, Hopkinsville; Lexington Herald-Leader; The Courier-Journal, Louisville; The Middlesboro Daily News; Appalachian News Express, Pikeville; The Winchester Sun; WKYX; WSON; WTVQ.

I think the AP poll is very skewed at first and after about 4 weeks it straightens out pretty good. But,there is still the possibility that a good team can be overlooked. The bad teams usually get weeded out by the 4th or 5th game. No poll is ever going to tell exactly to a "T" who's going to beat who. There are too many variables to call that. You know what they say about "any given night".

It figures you'd be the one to not only notice that, but feel the need to point it out. I'm pretty sure everyone in the football world knows that Highlands beat Boyle. It was just a typo.

Not Ragging on GRC, they have only played one game and beat a good Corbin team. Just suprised they got votes so early. They have a tuff schedule coming up too. Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Scott Co, Harlan Co, Lafayette, Tates Creek ,Madison Central and Rowan Co.

2A is very deep and I feel as my Green County Dragons are getting overlooked, and Washington Co. and P-Burg are all solid teams outside the top 10. The good thing about high school rankings is that none of it matters win and you get respect. These rankings are all a bit off because none of the AP voters actually see everyone across the state play.
