As a history major for one of my undergraduate majors, I have heard several different ideas on Lincoln's assassination. Unlike Kennedy's assassination, most schools of thought do believe that Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. However, many things surrounding it and the big question of WHY always comes up.
What do you think happened?

^It is widely accepted as being him. Most of the conspiracy around it is what happened before and after the shooting.

These list the main conspiracy theories, but there are some that are VERY far out there.

It's pretty well accepted by most historians that there was a conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln. All the known conspirators were hanged or imprisoned for Lincoln's murder a few months after the assassination.
On the other hand, most historians overwhelmingly believe that Kennedy was killed by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, and that there wasn't a conspiracy. In the nearly 50 years since JFK's murder there has not been any credible evidence of a conspiracy.
