I absolutely despise him (and so does everybody else who isn't a Tomcat fan), but Dicky Martin from Ashland is probably technically the best play-by-play man in the mountains. He's one of a very few east of 75 who might be mistaken for a professional broadcaster (except when he bleeds maroon on the air). Spike Berkheimer for WSIP in Johnson County is solid and is in the same very good class, I think, although Dicky may do a little clearer job of keeping you informed exactly what's going on. Too many of the rest I've heard on the radio driving to and from games in the mountains sound like they're announcing a dirt-track demolition derby; the more entertaining ones sound like they hit the moonshine before they picked up the microphones. There are a few PA announcers I'd throw in that boat also...

The link's on there to listen live. Friday night they should be broadcasting at Lawrence County, should be a fairly intense matchup.

Bobby Norman and former Belfry D-Coordinator Steve Mickey are about as good as you can get at the HS level. Both do their best to check their baggage at the door and give a fair assessment without the cheerleading.

I listened to Dicky Martin last year for the first time during the J.C. game. Instant fan! Tells it like it is, doesnt matter if it's his team or not. I found myself laughing hysterically several times at his comments. Very good!
