Belfry 2011
VHSL-helper Wrote:Isn't that a scrimmage?

Meh, yeah but it should be played like a real game.
VHSL-helper Wrote:Richlands & Gate City play each other that weekend... they've opened against each other for at least 10 years now,

your right,i have watched them play, but didnt look to see if thats the same weekend as pcb.
Anyone heard anything who may be coming to play Belfry?
Heard the following tidbits, TIFWIW:

- Josh Dixon, who in my opinion was one of the top DB's in KY last year, looks like a completely different player in a very good way. Supposedly he has bulked up substantially and is carrying himself like he is about to have "superstar" type of season on the defensive side of the ball.

- Williams is back at QB and playing very limited snaps on defense. The rotation in the backfield is Willis, Runyon, Robinson, Carr, and Johnson. Johnson has matured a bit physically and appears to be built much better to withstand the contact.

-Line is definitely feeling their way along right now, but they seem to be quick to go along with some good size.

- Front 7 on defense has the pieces to work with, but has a long way to go right now.

what about Dixon at half back, had heard a couple days ago he would probally be one of the starters there..
From what I've heard Josh Dixon weighs around 210 and runs his forty yard dash in 4.5 seconds. Personally I don't see how you don't start a kid like that at halfback.

At the other halfback, Robinson returns and has gotten quicker and bigger also. Johnson has also gotten bigger and faster. 3 legitimate halfbacks. With Robinson's speed increase I can see him taking that safety spot.

Belfry returns both LB's and both DE's, just gotta get those front 3. ALOT of people could be those 3. We'll see come time who gets those spots.
whats the lastest..
I like the idea of only playing Williams at QB (and not safety) if you can plug in another guy who would be able to fill the position.

I am assuming the following for defensive starters:

DE - Messer
DT - ?
NG - ?
DT - ?
DE - Runyon
LB - Ghormley
LB - Mullins
CB - Warren
CB - ?
SS - Dixon
FS - ?

Couple questions to those watching practice:

1) Any competition at QB, or is Williams firmly entrenched?
2) Who is playing WR? Is Sani Warren taking any reps there?
3) What lineman who didn't play much last year are gonna be stepping up and taking on a large role this season?

My guess from what ive seen it will be James May at DT, Tuffy at nose. Not sure bout the other DT.
Now about your questions.
1. The snaps are more like Tyler 65/35 sani.
2. WR's are Howie dotson and Eli Huddle.
3. No Lineman who didnt start i think will step up (hope im wrong)
Because keegan fields, josh nelson, and John duty will be the leaders of the line. All started last year.
so whats the back field looking like? trey at fb,dixon and justin at the 2 halfbacks with robison and carr as backups?gary as trey backup
I read in the paper that Hazard and Belfry had a 7 on 7 at hazard and the Hazard offense looked good scoring on a lot of plays, It said Belfry had 2 series not scoring before they finally scored on the 3rd series... I look foward to see if both teams can make it back to state.
How many returning starters does belfry have?

remember thats 7-7 not whole team, and Belfry not good at 7-7 they dont ever throw the ball, and the scrimmage each other every year, but dont put alot of stock in either, they dont show much...
EKU , you hit the nail on the head. The one weakness for Belfry is the front seven on defense. That area will take time . Plus it is going to take Gary time to fully recover from the foot injury.
Williams is the starter at qb

Huh? You must know any of the kids on the front seven.
D ends
Gary Runyon- 3 year starter
Tony Messer - 1 year starter
Linebackers
Payton mullins- 2 yr
madison ghormely 1 yr
dline
James may played a lot last year
no one else has played that i know of.

And Gary look fine.
Is Haywood running the same offensive sets and plays as last year, or has the team gone back to the more traditional Pirate wishbone?

Also, does anyone know the format of the Boyd Co. scrimmage this coming week? That is at 7pm at Boyd Co. correct?

I know that.I was looking at the Hazard out look on it by having a new QB. Also i believe Belfry threw the ball a little more last year than recent years. I will probably go watch the Belfry hazard scrimmage somebefore i go to the pcc and prestonsburg game..
Belfry scrimmages Boyd County this Friday night @ Boyd Co. They travel to Hazard next Friday night.
THEN, PCB and some great Pirate football and tailgating!!!

cant believe that one of the scimmages isnt going to be at Belfry
well whats it look like going into friday
sheldon clark will be the class of the region this year, hands down!
I'm really anxious to see that group of Sophomores both skill players and linemen mesh and become contributors for this team. Does any one know what Sophomores will have an impact this season? Any starters?
I think belfry will be good this year. The trend will continue though as they will not be able to do anything with the cardinals from Martin County. Everybody thought CARDINAL FOOTBALL was suppose to be in a bit of a rebuilding year well, think again! the cards will be the class of the field in mountain football just wait and see!!!!!

sure there will be serval,Sani.Justin, probally Carr, maybe more, idk i am not there...
We will know a little more after tonight about personnel when they scrimmage Boyd County. Haywood usually does special teams first then they normally do 10 plays each, switching back and forth. I will post what goes on tonight with some opinions after I get home.
I like the looks of Josh Robinson I think this could be a break out year for him!

If the trend results in Belfry going to Bowling Green as SC sits at home like last year, then I am fine with it.
