I know this game isn't until August 20th but it is the first game for both teams. Who wins? What will the score be? What will the stat sheet look like? etc...
As far as I know, this will be a neutral field game played in Harrison County. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are Correct LWC..
As for the game Im not for sure what RC returns this season but I know SC lost a lot and will have a new QB under center this year and will have a few new faces on the Line and on defense. KP will carry the load for the Cards this year. I will be able o tell you some more on the Cards after they get some pads on though.

Rock gets the win, they return everyone from last year but 1 kid. The rock defense led by Tony Saylor will stop anything SC has got to offer

So is Tony Saylor the actual defensive coordinator? It is so confusing because I thought Coach Martin was the coordinator at one point.
I guess my question is this: Is Tony Saylor the coach/coordinator that spends the most time coaching the defensive players? If so, how has the defense been so bad and how could he not make adjustments during the Danville game, etc...
I guess that I can't understand how the Rock Solid defense can be SOOO bad lately under the legendary Tony Saylor?

Respectfully, I hope you are wrong. SC lost a lot of guys from last year's team, but they might do a little better than is expected by most.
Based upon on what I've read on another thread, Rockcastle is loaded this year, and I've seen predictions of eight or nine wins in 2011. If memory serves me correctly, one fan predicted ten wins, if I'm not mistaken. At my stage in life, I have found that I have been wrong many, many times. So maybe I dreamed that.
At this point, one would have to favor Rockcastle, but let's not count SC out, for they have a way of being a spoiler. Last season, for example, they beat Belfry, who was favored going in, and who ended up being in the state 3A finals. And they played a great game against 5A Johnson Central, outplaying them in just about every category but the one that counts. They lost 14 to 12.
However, I readily admit that many of the players from last year's team have graduated, but they have a good group of guys that can step up and contribute.
August 20 will be before we realize it, and the we will see how this game transpires. Good luck to both teams, and hoping for an injury free contest.
See you there!

I bet anything it is not Tony Saylors fault, he all of a sudden did not forget how to coach, he is one of the better defense coaches in the state. I am not sure who actually coaches the def, I always assumed it was Tony Saylor, at least he did when my family played

Agreed. Tony is brilliant. To talk with him about football is to be utterly confused or made to sound ignorant, lol.
My guess is that he has been very hands off for the last 4-5 years.

I would like to see Sheldon clark make a good showing, and I believe that they will; however, that will depend on how the guys replacing the graduating seniors step up and compete.
06-22-2011, 01:56 PM
The only way to beat rock is being able to throw the ball, we will play solid defense, shutting down the run, run the ball on offense and keep our def off the field, plus our kids are going to be hungry for a win, real hungry
06-22-2011, 02:26 PM
Former is right, Danville figured that out fast, and decided to simply throw over top of the 9 man box and smoked Rock's defense. That is why I refuse to believe that Tony ran the defense last season. He would have been smart enough to put an extra man or two back in pass coverage.

paulcssi, you are correct; they have lost a good group of seniors but are returning some pretty fair players, also. Let's look at the glass as half-full.
Some of the guys that immediately come to mind: Taylor Chapman, Todd Matthews, Chase Lafferty, Tyler O'Connor, Jarred Stevens, BJ Jarrell, and let's not forget one of the more underrated running-backs in Eastern, KY, KP Skyles.
I've heard that SC has had a very good contingent of "new" linemen working hard over the off-season. Thus maybe SC might be a little better than most think. But obviously we won't know until they take the field in 2011.

Rock is stronger, faster more experienced this year also. I think rock wins by 2 or 3 TD's

I don't know about the score. I think that SC will be tough to play based on past performance and won't be a pushover by any account. I will be very happy to get out of the first game with a win of any margin to start the season. I look for SC to test Rockcastle's secondary in this game and wouldn't blame them for trying it.
06-24-2011, 03:37 AM
I think this would be a close game. I will take rock by 6
06-24-2011, 04:29 AM
Rock by 14
06-24-2011, 01:14 PM
I stand by 2 or 3 td's, SC is out of thier league this year.

Rockcastle by as many as they want!

Stardust Wrote:Little early for predictions????
Less than two months away. Most prediction threads start at the first of August anyway. What more can change aside from injuries or players quitting? Most of the players that will get playing time are already either conditioning or practicing. The coaches are the same, so most of the playbook will be the same, etc.....

This should be a pretty fair game for the opener for both teams. SC, as I have mentioned before, lost quite a few guys from last years team. But I've heard that they have worked extremely hard in the off-season, getting ready for 2011.
If the line develops and becomes a solid unit, I look for SC to do OK. But based upon what I've heard and read about Rockcastle County, they would have to be the favorite this season.

Well stated.
The last game between Rock and S.C. was a 6-0 classic, if I am not mistaken. I hope this one lives up to that game as well.

It was actually 7-6, Rocks first Regional Championship.

Which year was this Regional Championship game played? I am sure it was sometime time prior to my becoming a Sheldon Clark follower.
I am looking forward th the upcoming game August 20. I plan to be there!
