Who has the best pregame intro in kentucky high school football? Also, how important is the intro to the home team, visiting team, fans and school's program in general?
The reason i am asking this is because at Harlan we're still doing the same old thing we've done for years. Only a few cheers and rap/rock music and the team comes busting out through the paper. Last season we played at Lee High in Virginia and wow they had the band out there and a patriot like guy on a horse waving a flag as he rode around the field,a cannon and fireworks. All of this was correographed. I thought they really had a great thing going on. Our team was really young and I felt the pregame show had an affect on the way our team started out the game. They were shocked and it showed. I came away from that game with respect for the Lee High progam. They have got alot of class. The same thing happened in the playoffs. Pikeville came out with a bang and we were shocked and took a 35-0 point thrashing in the first quarter. Anyway, I feel that our kids would have responded better if they had a cool pregame show of thier own. Maybe it wouldn't be such a shocker when we go on the road. Say what you want, but those things have an affect on the way a team plays. School's wouldn't waist thier tme with it if they didn't.

Lee High has been doing that for years, plus their band is as big as Harlan Ind. probably. That is why people go to football games there; to see the band perform.
Go a mile to see HC's intro if you haven't. It has to be one of the best in the Bluegrass.
Youtube it I think it is on there.
Several teams have tried to even mock it this past year, simply because it is very intimidating.

Rockcastle County just walking off the hill touching the ROCK under the bright spotlight with a huge sound machine is pretty intimidating as well.

I've not been to an HC home game yet,but plan on it this year. Harlan Ind. needs to put something together for next season. It could only help.

Help me out; I don't even remember Harlan County pregame activities. What do they do that was so special? I do remember their PA announcing coal keeps the lights on; even the lights in Ft. Thomas. I actually enjoyed and got a kick out of that.
Highlands used to fire the cannon as the team took the field, but no longer. Team just runs through a cheerleader "banner" as they take the field. Not much; then again, I don't place the same emphasis on pregame intros that others on here do. To each their own I guess.

They run out of a tunnel filled with fog and through a JUMBO blown up HC Helmet all the way through 40 yards of fans on the field with the song 'You'll Never Harlan Alive' absolutely BLARING with some AC/DC mix at the very end with a loud cannon pop behind the visitors pep line and then the players run out.

That is the only clip I could find and it just has a few still photos near the end of the players running onto the field but the same music is played throughout the video that is linked, right before they run onto the field. The only thing missing is the cannon shot on the video; and the goosebumps.

Belfry has a pretty good intro with tunnel time, and the 2001 space odyssey theme electrifies the atmosphere!!!

I think they walk down the bleachers now, last time I was there at the beginning of the game they walked down the bleachers instead of coming down the hill.

Letcher Central has there band, cheerleaders, and dance team form a power L and the Cougars comes out pf a big cougar head "see signature below", and runs through the power L while the band plays the fight song alone with a loud fireworks.

I miss the old style. Touching the Rock just gives the players an idea of exactly what the name on that jersey means.

I was shocked to see it too, I heard a lot of people were upset at the new tradition. But a new coach comes in and changes things the way they want to. i have also heard they dont run through the spirit line anymore either

Not a fan of parents and fans on the field forming a tunnel for the players to run through; it looks like youth soccer!

Like I stated in another post, this looks like youth soccer and is silly.

It's not parents? It's dedicated teenage fans. And you see a couple parents taking pictures here and there. But I'd say from a players stand point, they really get energized seeing that many people line up on their field supporting them.

I'm not high on Belfry and it's obvious, but to say their intro is silly is just stupid. It looks nothing like youth soccer, and it brings the community closer. I'm sure there is little boys up Pond Creek who can't wait until it's them running through it.
My favorite intro is Boyd County. I don't know how many of you seen their stadium, but they have one big stand on a hill. I'm not sure if they still do it, but back in 06 the team was lead by a Lion mascot waving a flag with a BC on it while the Halloween theme song played. I may have been on the opposing team, but I was ready to cheer for them.

HR you are correct! Those little fella's can't wait for the "big boys" to come thru that tunnel and give them five... Last year, I remember one player stopping and hugging a little girl in a wheelchair who was in the tunnel line... Belfry has a LOT of community support! I would venture to guess more than a youth soccer game wouldn't you??? LOL

Lol like I said I'm not high on them, but their program is a class act. There are a few rotten apples in the stands, but we all have those.
I'd like to see the youth soccer game hes going to.

Johnson Central. I could do without the stupid eagle screech but other than that it is pretty legit it was alot cooler back when they had their old field in 06 but it is still pretty sweet.

^I went to a game a game in 06 and it was great! And I loved the cannon. I don't know if they still do that, but it was cool.

That's my favorite part of the game. When all the kids (students) make the spirit tunnel on the field, the band is on the field playing "On Hazard High" and the football team comes running thru the Dawg house and onto the field amid the fog and the flashing blue lights. There's not a feeling in the world like it...I guess that's BULLDOG PRIDE.

Estill County Comes out of there Locker Room to a Big Army/National Guard Balloon, where they do there Pregame Prayer, with 2 lines of Cheerleaders lined up in front of the Balloon where the players come out holding a "Go Engineers" Sign and the players come running out to the sound of a Train Horn

I know that U.K. is not high school, but,I thought that during the promotion of "Air Raid" in the late 90's was pretty cool. Harlan's got a very good passing team coming up this season and l'd like to see something similar to that done at Harlan. I love tradition. When they sing "My Old Kentucky Home" before games in Lex It gives me goose bumps. I hate to hear that Rockcastle has gotten away from thier tradition. What was that hurting. As someone earlier said, kids grew up dreaming of the day they could make that walk and touch that rock. It's ashame it was stopped. When you take away tradition you strip away identity.
