Highlands

Sk, I'm not sure if you have ever been to Highlands before, but if you have then you have not seen many turf fields. It's a dump! No disrespect to the HHS fans, but that field wedged into the back of the school and that surface being one of the first ever installed is horrendous!

Never been there just saw 2 Images of it online last night. Saw one End Zone (I Believe the one by the school?) and the "H" in the Middle of the Field

I've never been to Letcher Central but I've heard from Several different People that its one of the nicest in the State, Big Replay Screen, Not Sure what there field is like. I've heard from several different people close to the Estill program say that Letcher Central is the Nicest Field they have ever played on and they've played on Belfry's, Russell's, Breathitt's, Montgomery's, along with some others
#5
LexCath's field is the best in the state.
Boyle's is very nice as well

It was nice when it first went in, but now with the raised turf and advances in the ground surface, it is out of date.

Im with Stardust one this one. Highlands stadium is like Fenway Park. Its historic, its unique, the football atmosphere there is one of the best in the country for high school football, but the surface is bad, they need to replace the old turf. theyve added stands in some places, but the fans are still squeezing cheek to cheek into the sideline seats. Its a great place to watch a game if you love football, but overall... no

now some of the nicest stadiums ive been to:
NKY: Ryle, SK, Dixie, Walton-Verona, Scott, Newport (turf needs some work)
Central KY: LexCath, Dunbar, Danville
Louisville: Manual, St. Xavier, Trinity, Central
Mountains: Ashland, Hazard, Belfry (my favorite in the state)

Nicest ones I've been to..

(No particular order)
Belfry
Hazard
LCC
Lexington Catholic
#10
Nicest field. Boyle County has a really nice place now with the new turf. Lexington Catholic. Highlands. Trinity.

Im going by entire campus or stadium as well as field...

I know im going to get a homer call on some of these being from SE KY, but i think Whitley has the nicest around here especially with their beautiful campus they have there, Corbin is getting old, but still one of the best around, Letcher Co, Belfry(Prolly the best stadium atmosphere) and im sure that Harlan co. is building something amazing over there.

As far as some of the ones mentioned above, Im with SD on the Highlands field. I traveled up once to see a game and while it was Highlands, youd think theyd do some major improvements.
I watched Whitley play up at Lex Cath a couple of years ago and while the field was very nice it just seemed so small and enclosed, but i guess that comes with the territory and being in the middle of Lex.
I like Bell's theme of playing on log mountain, but thats just it, your on the side of a mountain and parking is horrocious.
North and South Laurel both have nice and good sized stadiums but the fields are pot holes.
#12
Belfry and Trinity have the overall nicest facilities I have seen in the state. Whitley also has a very nice facility, their groundskeepers keep the natural surface looking great all year. LCC and Hazard both have great fields, but the parking at both is horrendous.

With south Laurel, i was referring more to the type of grass they have. Its not the nice bermuda you see at most places, its the thick hard to run on stuff.

It looked pretty nice to me, I will admit tho that with the fence up around the Field and Track its hard to get the water (if you use a "Waterboy") out from the concession stand which is behind the Fence.

Sheldon clark and martha layne collins has to be in the mix

Good list. Has Ashland changed their surface? It's been three years since I was there last.

no its still grass, but the field was in great condition. friend of mine said they had their spring practice last week or 2 weeks ago and the field looked good

Agreed with the field at Highlands not very good, Stadium uniqueness does make it an interesting place to watch a game. Nothing better than walking though the visitors bench during the game.

Scott has a nice new stadium, turf field, 9 lane track, Home and away bleachers now. This summer they are going to start building a new locker room/weight room/general multi purpose building. The weight room will have a wall of glass that will overlook the football field. Should be a beautiful building when completed

I've played on some of these fields you all have mentioned. I never personally liked turf I played at Letcher Central a few times in my jv and freshmen years. I never liked playing there honestly. I played at Sheldon Clark before and after the turf they really needed that upgrade, but their turf was slick I couldn't keep traction. Then there is Belfry I liked to play at Belfry yea in my day we got canned all the time, but it's a good place for a ball game. I got to play at Hazard once before they got the new field.
#21
Christian County's SOC has one of the nicest overall football facilities I have seen when you incorporate seating, dressing rooms, parking, ease of access, etc. Field is grass, but still nice.
#22
I think everyone is getting a bit off subject. Is this thread for the nicest fields or the nicest stadiums? Someone please clerify.
#23
I think it started with fields, but has drifted. I think adding to the fields with some of the supporting facilities is interesting though.

Field, Yes. Overall, God no.
#25
Not been to too many outside of the mountains but around here I like Belfry, Johnson Cetral, Hazard, Letcher, Ashland
#26
Best I've seen in the east is Belfry's, though I've never been to Letcher Central's.

Best in the west is Stadium of Champions in Hoptown, I think.
#27
Lexington Catholic has a very nice field. Collins has a nice field as well.

Interesting comment about the condition of the surface at Highlands. No disrespect taken. Why do you have such an opinion about the surface? Who are you hearing that from? From what I've heard from players (including my son who played on it during the 09 season) the Highlands surface is great. He prefers it to the other cheaper versions that have been installed recently at other fields.

Highlands has Fieldturf, which is the expensive version installed by the NFL teams. A lot of the other schools have installed cheaper versions that are very slick.

The Fieldturf warranty was for 10 years (it was installed for the 02 season) but the President of Fieldturf stated that Highlands should get more years than that because the warranty is based on a Florida installation where the more intense sun will break down the plastic fibers more quickly.

To each their own, but I don't like the "sterile" look of the newer facilities and I can't stand the facilities that have the tracks around the field because it moves the fans so far away from the field. I really hate it when they build stadiums that provide very poor visitoring fans bleachers (ie Dixie). At least at Highlands, the visiting fans get seats as good as the home fans.

I'll give you the point that the field is wedged in. Of course, I think that helps great a great atmosphere for the game.

Nicest High School turf field that I've seen:

1. Boyle
2. Johnson Central
3. (Henry Clay, Dunbar, Tates Creek)
4. Lafayette (was different than the other Lexington Schools) I like the different colors each 5 yards but the turf was not better IMO.

I've yet to see Belfry, Hazard, and Letcher County and have heard good things about them.

Grass Fields:
1. Danville
2. Corbin
3. Christian County / Hopkinsville ( it hurt CC chances that we played them during a rain storm)

Seating:
1. Christian County
2. Danville
3. Bell County

Parking:
1. Christian County

I think Dunbar's facility is fantastic, along with Danville's "Stadium of Champions"
