Towles Picks Up Two Offers
#1
Congrats to Highlands QB Pat Towles on recent offers from Louisville and Cincinnati to play football.
#2
Wow, that is awesome. If he has these now, he should really draw some interest in his senior season.
#3
He SHOULD pick up some interest from other schools, but not necessarily schools way above Louisville or Cincy.

IF one of these two schools is his top choice, he should commit.

If they are NOT, he should just hold off, say all the right things about being interested, and then let it play out over the summer.

Recruiting pressures on college coaches force them to early offer juniors. Because of that, they will often only "hold" a slot for the most elite senior athletes. Lamar Dawson, for example, has a full ride at all of the schools he has not told "No" which means that college coach has a scholarship with Dawson's name on it. When Dawson decides and tells those coaches "no" they goes back to a pool filled with fish far smaller than Dawson as others have already committed.

All that to say - if you are a D1 recruit and you roll the dice by not signing your Junior year offers could be withdrawn unless you know they are willing to hold your offer until you decide after you senior year.

This is my understanding based only on what I have read. I was certainly not a D1 recruit so if others have a better understanding of this murky process; please do shed some light.

I expect UK to go after him as well. How many years has he started at Highlands? Will this be his 2nd or 3rd?

You cannot sign during your JR year. You can however, commit. But a commitment is just as good as your word and really worth nothing. The big thing about committing is that it has changed from years past. If you give a verbal commitment to one school, most schools will stop calling and will not offer.

Therefore, it is best NOT to commit unless it is your dream/top school. Which in that case, commit and get it out of the way.

Schools will NOT hold a spot just because they have offered scholarships. Schools can offer as many scholarships as they want. Most of them will hold a spot for their commitments.

You are correct in the fact that they can withdraw an offer at any time. If they offer 3 QB's and 2 commit, then they may withdraw the 3rd offer.

2011 will be his 3rd year as a starter. Towles was thrust into duty in the Cincy St. X game as a sophomore in 2009 when QB Will Bardo was injured and has stared every game for Highlands since.

Louisville has already withdrawn their offer to Moore from fern creek, they picked up a wr from Miami, Demarcus smith ( top 11 qb) & Teddy Bridgewater (top 2 qb) have both committed to UL Teddy is already there along with domonique brown from cinncinati, that's 3 young qb's they already have. My son is a DT , they will rotate d- lineman , they don't "rotate" qb's so if I am the kid & or his family I will take that into consideration.

The QB commitments are something to be aware of, and keep an eye on, but it should not keep him from visiting or look at UL. The last thing he wants is to take them off his list and then Bridgewater decommits last minute!

He can't decommit now, he enrolled this week, & I don't think Demarcus will decommit either.

Two very nice offers for a talented QB. No rush to commit though. A lot of times athletes hurry and commit themselves to schools and then they end up decommiting when a bigger school come along. Take your time young man and see what offers you gain over the next year.

My son got four more big time offers after committing, it probably depends on who you are, but as a rule of thumb the previous poster is probably right.

Towles would be a better fit at UK or Cincy, i think it those are his 2 best options. Teddy Bridgewater is the real deal. Interested to see if DeMarcus Smith will put up any competition against "TEDDY HEISMAN"
#14
I only seen Towles play once against Johnson Central, and was really impressed with his arm strength and ability to move around in the pocket.

I'd welcome him with open arms at UK!
#15
Teddy "Ive never thrown a pass" Bridgewater is not gonna win the Heisman. Strong wont even be at UL for more than 1 or 2 years. The way he is jerking scholarships away from kids in Louisville and Cincy he had better hope not anyways. He's burned some major bridges.

Agreed about Strong.

He's not at Louisville to stay. I think the Louisville fans should feel lucky Miami or Florida didn't offer him the job this off-season. He defiantly would have accepted one of those positions. So if the right job comes calling, then he'll be on the first flight out of Louisville.

Won't happen , he has cited in the past most cities inability to accept his interracial marriage, he has stated he has had no problems with that in louisville , and that louisville is one of the very few places his family has felt comfortable .

Just learned that Patrick Towles picked up his 3rd offer today... from the University of Illinois. With Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Penn State among the leading Big 10 (no Big 12) schools pursuing him, I'm not surprised with the Fighting Illini's offer.
#19
Play for the ville, strong know his stuff.

Heard that Coach Phillips offered Patrick a scholarship last p.m. to play for Big Blue.

This is true, would love to see Towles playing for the Cats!

Now that Phillips has offered Patrick, he needs to hotly recruit him if Phillips really wants Patrick at UK. Just offering a scholarship isn't going to get him to UK just because Patrick is from Ky.

Agreed. Hopefully he has learned from this past season that you still have to make these in state recruits a top priority.
#24
Your kind of right, but they don't offer juniors who they are not Really elite .
#25
Just learned that young Mr. Towles received a scholarship offer to play QB @ Vanderbilt over the weekend. Congrats to him.
