Sounds like it was a good game

Yet another close game between these two teams this year. Pikeville is obviously the better team, and are one of the three main contenders for the 15th region crown. But even though Valley is struggling through a rebuilding season, they have still managed to stay close to Pikeville every time they have played this year. I think Valley showed a lot of heart tonight. Based on talent alone, this should have been a cakewalk for the Panthers, but SV just wouldn't let it happen.
Congrats to Pikeville, and good luck to both in the regional!

Thought Valley would pull this one out. You better get it this year panther's because it will be back to the basement after this season.

Once again, how'd this work out for ya?
You should change your handle to Fredstradamus.

Congratulations to the Panthers on the 59th district championship! Solid 2nd half. Ethan Rowe really stepped up while Pikeville was struggling to find points. Branham missing some time has altered his aim, needs to get back on track quickly. Hopefully Layne recovers in a hurry, but it doesn't look good for a regional appearance. Shoutout to Wes Anderson for some quality minutes and hustle tonight.
Feels good to win this again. Hail Pikeville!

It's funny you guys mention that, because I'm not an East Ridge fan.
But on a slight funnier note, in the 9 seasons that East Ridge has been a school, Pikeville finally has matched the total number of district championships that East Ridge has claimed. Only a regional title to go and a few more total wins, you'll almost be caught up with a school that has been open for 9 years. :eyeroll:
Oh yeah, congratulations.

Great win for the Panthers!! Congrats!! Pikeville really did deserve the win and I thought that they played well tonight! The Rowe kid was clutch and absolutely killed Valley when a run/momentum change was taking place. Multiple times,Valley got the Panther lead to one point or so and Rowe would answer will some HUGE buckets. The kid is clutch. The Pikeville kid have some good talent and some depth but they still need to kick it up a notch to get through the region. I thought that the refs where good both ways, and that both teams were rather respectful.
As I said, Pikeville really was the better team and deserved the win so NOTHING is taken away from them- but Valley left sooooooo many point at the line. Going (I think) 13-27 from the stripe and missing multiple (Im thinking at least 10) give-me layups. Valley came, played hard, showed heart but just did not have the disciple and experience to pull out a game like this.... However I must say, I am VERY impressed with the future athletes for Valley. Richardson had a rough game taking care of the ball, but MAN the kid is in 8th grade and holds his own. Belter had a good game but out of those 10 or so layups at least 5 were his to place in the bucket (he is/will get better and better). And too many times did the over the top lob pass go sailing or get intercepted leading to a fast break. Just bad decisions at some bad times. But I am extremely proud of the team and how they kept battling.
Good luck to the Panthers in the regional tourney and hopefully this young Valley squad is slowly gaining some experience! Lets see if they have one more upset in them.

Soak it up Pikeville. Happiness in basketball will elude you for a few more years after this.
Good job though. You feel better than I do right now, haha.

PT since you cant let it die, I have three questions for you.
1 Who has the most talent Pikeville or SV
2 If they traded teams who would win and by how many
3 Who has done the better job coaching in the three games
Okay, here is my take as I have watched them
1 Pikeville hands down
2 Greg would have beat Bart by 20 plus
3 Greg hands down
I will ask that you give your honest opinion, not your biased opinion. Fred gave his opinion and yep he was wrong but you gotta let it die.
:thanks: in advance for your HONEST opinion.

I'm tired of him running his mouth and not being held accountable. If he wasn't acting like a fool out of a personal vendetta, the circumstances would be different. His only reason he has an account on this site is for that. I will gurantee less than 10% of my posts deal with him and/or my dislike for a specific person. There is a difference in opinion and just being a troll. I'm not sure why you continue to defend him and fight for him, when he is the Pikeville basketball equivalent to one of those LC baseball guys.

But annnnyway.
1 Who has the most talent Pikeville or SV
-Pikeville
2 If they traded teams who would win and by how many
-Pikeville, 10-15 (Which I think they are capable of under Williams. He can;t make shots for them)
3 Who has done the better job coaching in the three games
-No denying that Mr. Newsome has done an excellent job in year one. He is a good basketball mind. He has done a good job of keeping the games close with the Panthers. While SV is not as basketball talented as Pikeville, they still have some pretty good athletes who play really tough defense. Who is a better coach? At this point probably Newsome. Coach Williams still has a little learning to do but he is young, and I think things will continue to get better as time goes on.
3-0 against SV on the year is very acceptable no matter what. And two of the games were without Cecil, who you seem to be very high on.

Wow, this arguement kind of spawned out of nowhere. I think that Greg has done an amazing job this year with the drop in talent and the hits that these kids have taken. They are already building experience and I think that Valley is going to be in good hands for years to come. Pikeville's coach broke through with a solid winning team this year. I still think that the Panther team from 06-07 is a better "team" but the talent for the Panthers this year has got them over the SV hump. I think that Bart can finally rest for a little bit and enjoy this time within the district....... Because I think that ER and SV turns the table completely starting next year.

Pikeville has 32 or 33 district championships, several times more than all the schools that combined to form ER combined. Get over yourself RB, you come across as superloser on these Pikeville threads.

Pikeville's 2nd District title in the last 12 years and you'd think this was the biggest basketball powerhouse in the state. I don't remember seeing any Shelby Valley fans celebrate a district title in the last several years. I guess because for a real basketball school that isn't enough. Congrats on this to Pikeville, but don't get used to it. You'll go back to winning your 1 district title ever 6 years after this magical season.

Congrats to Pikeville, I have known Bart for years and there isn't a better guy, the same can be said about Greg. As for that respect IMO both are about equal in coaching ability, it is IMO that Bart did just as much of the coaching as an assistant as he is now. Greg will have a loaded team for years to come as long as the kids from Virgie stick together. Valley has the best feeder program around and there is no disputing that and who started it all, Greg. Greg is the reason Valley was so good for the past few years and that will continue with Doe Doe being at Virgie now. Also lets just face it and this is a non-biased opinon, ER is going to have one kid who will dominate the region for the next few years in Justice however, that is not going to be enough to compete with what Valley has as a team. Unfortunatley, Bart will be in trouble he may still be able to sneak a couple of runner-ups in there for the next 4 years but to think he will have a district championship IMO that is far from the expectations from those out of the 59th region looking in.
02-25-2011, 09:29 AM
congrat to Pikeville and Shelby Valley. Good Luck in Region..... From what has been told Justice very well may not be at East Ridge next year. I guess we will all have to wait and see...
