Next coach at Lawrence Co.?
#91
Thanks for correcting me Kosar.
#92
My opinion is that Copely is the best fit for the job. LC wouldnt miss a beat with him.

i know, right? Wrote:My opinion is that Copely is the best fit for the job. LC wouldnt miss a beat with him.

Thank you. A lot of the people at LC don't understand how good of a hire he'd be.

Take it from The Underground!

It will be Joey Cecil.

IF LC commitee is smart, they could get 2 HC for the price of one. Cecil will be there as a assistant regardless if he is a HC or not. If you hire Copley or Burchett as the HC ,that means you have one good HC and a good asssitant. Hire Cecil and you lose Copley and Burchett they wont be a assistant. Just a thought!!

It's a shame to say but the people on the hiring committee have absolutely no say in who gets this job. Greg Kiser will pick the next football coach, just like he did the last basketball coach. The basketball committee recommended another candidate, Kiser wanted Miller. Miller was then hired.
It's a shame but money runs everything around this town!

I agree. Cecil will be at LC either way. Hire another qualified head coach and have Cecil as an assistant.

Why in the world would Burchett not be the logical hire? He was with Chuke with all the great Lawrence county teams. Burchett has coached with Matney at Johnson Central. He has worked with some of the best and been a part of alot of tradition. If you want Lawrence county football where it was, then bring back a coach who was part of what it was during those great bulldog teams. Those great Lawrence county teams were Belly teams not Wing T. Bring back the Belly, Bring back Lawrence county tradition. It's a no brainer, Burchett is the logical hire.

Not a coach mentioned has the experience of Burchett. Does experience not count? So has it already been decided before any interviews that Cecil is in fact going to be the next coach? If so, very bad way to do business. Why would an experienced coach like Burchett not have a legitamate shot? I don't see it. Any site base, hiring committe or principal needs to be SURE and look at where Burchett has been and who he has worked with. I think they will be more than satisfied. I'm not saying they have in fact already decided on anything, I'm just replying from a previous post.
Bring in Copley and Burchett. I like that idea a lot. They've worked together before. And both run the belly.

I agree 100% with this. if one don't get the head job, be the other's assistant. The Belly would definately be back!
I know I miss a lot, and don't keep up with Bluegrass Rivals the way I should; but why did Coach Copley leave Greenup County?

I'm sorry, but that doesn't even make sense... why did his son not play then if he wanted Miller so bad?
Great question which I don't know the answer to. Ask anyone who was on the basketball committee and they will tell you that they all wanted another candidate, except for Kiser. He got the guy he wanted as coach and then he doesn't make his own boy play.

With Hayden being in his senior year this fall I am sure Kiser will have a strong say in this one as well. Grant,Haydens younger brother, is a great talent coming up through middle school ball and will be a great QB for LC when he is older.
I agree that he will have a huge say in the next coach, but I don't think he should. What does he know about football? Is he qualified to being picking coaches? I don't think so. Just because he runs the hospital doesn't mean he deserves to have his voice heard on who the next coach will be. The fact that he has a kid in middle school should not matter either. I believe it's pushing it to say his middle school kid will be a great QB in the future. His high school days are several years down the road. This is what is wrong with Lawrence County athletics. People who are have money have more say so than the people who actually understand sports.
This same thing happens everywhere just not in Louisa...

How is it pushing it? I coached Grant for several years in youth football and I am great friends with his middle school coach. Nothing wrong with having some confident in a young man who has the strengths to be a good high school football player.
I play for coach Burchett...i honestly do no want to see him go. this would mean that i would have 3 head coaches in my four years at Powell County high school. Hes an amazing coach and i really do no want to see him go. we need a program in this town and by coaches coming and going with all these new offenses, its not possible. but if he chooses to go...youll get one of the best coaches in kentucky hands down. he has forgotten more football than all of us even know.
I know Grant very well and he will be a very good high school quarterback. He won the top middle school quarterback award at UK football camp last year. I don't think we should be talking about specific kids on here in any negative way. There will always be people on here bashing adults no matter the outcome of the coaching search. Lets just try to keep it to adult bashing.

Sounds to me like someone is upset because he took someones starting position. May be all of the coaches at the UK football camp may just be qualified to pick Grant as the top Middle School QB at the camp. As far as Greg having his voice heard, he does have a say. You do too, all you have to do is make an appointment with Mr. Armstrong. He has an open office policy.
Easy guys. I never said there was anything wrong with having confidence in a player and I never said anything negative about the kid. All I said was I believe it is pushing it to say a middle school athlete is going to be great. If that is considered bashing someone then it is news to me. Believe me the fact that Armstrong has an open door policy means nothing in this matter. Me voicing my opinion, or any of you voicing your opinions to him on the matter will fall on deaf ears. I just believe if you have a search committee you should utilize it and not the wants on a players dad.
I agree on using the search committee if the people on the committee are qualified.
Just because someone is a female english teacher at Fallsburg does not make them a qualified member of the search committee. Who do you guys think should be on the committee? Lets hear some volunteers. From where I stand coaches are chosen based on what kind of talent and what type of athletes you have coming up. You have to find the right fit. You cant make all of your kids be 6' 10" so would you pick a coach that only coaches to 6' 10" kids. It has to be a good fit for your future kids.
I feel coach Miller was a great choice for our basketball coach. We needed as much experience as possible. We graduated a whole team for the most part. Same for football, why bring in the belly when your youth are extremely quick and very smart.
Size seems to be that groups weakness.

From coaching just this past fall I can say with a TON of confidence that the middle school and youth teams have speed upon speed. Not a lot of size but speed to burn.

Sounds like you are recommending him for the job.
neverwas Wrote:Sounds like you are recommending him for the job.
I wouldn't know Burchett if he came walking down the street. Evidently we are getting an opinion reguarding this coach from a player that does. He is not recommending that Burchett take the job but rather giving an honest opinion of the coach. This player seems very honest with his post and we should understand his concerns of possibly loosing his coach. If in fact that is the case. Who knows? A lot of readers on here.
bottom line im sick of everyone complaining...
salmons wasnt a big loss, hes gone. i dont blame him, better talent, better facilities and everything at midland.......

but all he did here at LC was change the schedule and run the same 3 plays over and over and over.
the past 2 seasons are teams was not legit, the team led by shane pack and ben preston was the closest thing to a legit team lc has had in a long time.

changing the schedule and playing nobodys and i mean nobodys doesnt make you a good team, its better to go 6-4 playing the toughest schools rather than 10-0 with the weak nobody schedule.
to be good you have to beat good teams.
and this past season against the 3 good teams LC played SC rowan and Bell, the lost.
and tolsia gave them a pretty good game.

being a successful team should not be changing the schedule to run the table and make yourselves look good on paper.
that shouldnt satisfy you...

i cheer on LC in everything. im just not being so biased and narrow minded, the people on here have kids that play and are kids that play so of course they are gonna talk all this greatness crap,
bottom line who have you beat? what have you done? seriously?
you will go 4-6 next season maybe 5-5 if your lucky 6-5 and the schedule has new teams but basicly cancels itself out.
win some games against some good teams. and then you can say your a good football team.

enough with that,

cecil should be by all means the next head coach with short as the assistant.

cecils wife has a solid job, he has a solid job with the school.... and board of directors at the hospital for some reason??? his kids are in the school system, he isnt going anywhere. thats what LC needs and hes a good coach the kids love him.
Amazing, yet oh so sad.....all this bickering, bashing, and arguing from people (mostly adults) from the SAME COUNTY.....SAME TOWN...SAME COMMUNITY....SAME STINKIN' SCHOOL! So pathetically superficial, fake, shallow. Is it any wonder why the county is in the shape that it's in? Why the morale at each and every school (especially the high school) is depressingly low? LC will never, eeeevvvvvvveeerrrr reach the potential that lies within the boundaries until EVERYONE takes a good look in the mirror, puts aside differences, rids themselves of the HATRED and JEALOUSIES that are oh so obvious, and gets on board the same train. WAKE UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
Finally somebody gets it! I played in the early 90's when "the program was put on the map". That would be Coach Goldsmith that put it on the map. 11-0 my Soph year, 3 pts from state (loss to Mayfield in the final 4) my Jr year and 12-2 my Sr year (Chuke's 1st year as off coordinator where we lost 1 game 3-0 and the other in a low scoring 5 turnover game at Pburg). The program was built on nasty..swarming defense and a powerful offense (when Garry Morris who is at Russell now was there we also had an efficent passing game).
Chuke took the keys to the car and brought a ton of swagger. I worked summers for him + drove back from college on Fri's to coach. I coached with him when we broke Breathitt's streak. He was nasty and brought a hit you in the mouth attitude.
During McPeeks era I would meet them in Georgetown to help at camp and started a youth camp at home.
When I moved back I got a call to come help try to get things turned around. I had the pleasure to Coach with Goldsmith and Salmons both. I've been around all areas between the 4 walls and know when it's right and when it's wrong. These last two years it's felt right again. The family atmosphere, the love, the work ethic etc is there again.
The problem is anybody in Louisa that sticks their neck out to try to help our kids gets takent to the woodshed on boards such as Bluegrassrivals and Topix. Both where people hide behind fake names with no accountability and bash things they have no clue about. A lot of times it's people that are living off the government and have nothing better to do with their time.
Growing up in Louisa was an amazing experience. Next weekend I'm going to dinner with 5 of my best friends from 1st grade...I'm 36 now. It was a blue collar communitty that stuck together and worked together for the greater good of our little town. Blue collar parents that worked hard to provide for their families. They supported the coaches and more than that they supported the kids through thick and thin. When we started winning at football this place changed. It was a different place to live. Those guys working at the plants, in the mines etc had something to look forward too all week long. Bragging rights. We might be a little backwoods town but by gosh we were going to kick your *** on Fri night! It brought this place together. That is a big reason so many people live in the past.
I speak from 1st hand experience on this one. I've coached with Chuke, Goldsmith, Salmons, Cecil, Burchett (and coached Copley). Our town has become a place were the majority are the problem and could care less about the solution. Big difference when Eddie Wayne (who should be in the hall of fame at LC) was leading our schools and Jeff May (who lost all kinds of money and is sueing the school). Am I pissed I got lied to a bunch and didn't get paid for coaching heck yes. Do I understand it...not at all. I do know this though Mr. Armstrong had a nice retired life. He was asked to do this job because of his experience. He has been my Sunday school teacher and was bed side in Lexington when my Uncle died. I've spent time with him and I can tell people he's got more on his plate than the normal man could handle. There's a lot of things I don't agree with but I know his heart and I know his hair is turning grey for the kids in Louisa.
The support for football is totally different than the 90's. We could get what we needed and did what we needed to do back then. Now we get no concession money, coaches don't get paid that are supposed to, we get a tinsy tiny part of gate money and there is nobody to turn to for us to get money in this communitty. Unfortunatly anybody that does try to help the program by supporting our kids with money gets slammed on a message board by somebody that hides behind their computer.
On the jealousy+support etc. I've never been more embarassed my 1st year back when the officials stopped a game at home to ask if we needed a fan thrown out for all the obscene things he was saying. Ended up he was saying it about Coach's son. The same man that built the program... REALLY? Then we get people on here promoting their dad but slamming our other coaches...REALLY? We get people on here slamming our top prospect that has worked his tail end off and been a great roll model...REALLY? We get people on here slamming our QB who is a top notch kid and leader....REALLY? We get people on here slamming our coach that took the program from 0-11 to 12-1 in one season then got an offer closer to his parents in a bigger school...REALLY? We let the best basketball coach in history walk out the door with no fight...REALLY? People are fist fighting at the youth football+baseball fields....REALLY? We have people talking about our middle school QB who is an outstanding kid...REALLY? The list goes on and on.
To many people have the mentality that if we run the belly read nobody will stop us! We'll win state every year! You know why because Chuke did it in the late 90's with Jason Micheal (D1 QB), Gerad Parker (D1 WR), Spencer Hariss (D1 SS), Mike West (D1 RB), Dontae Wright (D1 OLB), Nick Meadows (NAIA RB) I could go on. But wait we NEVER won it all then! I say all this as a coach on those teams coaching those guys! People in Louisa need to get out of the past and realize we have different kids and it's a different time. As a coach that has been around Lville and coached at Lexington Catholic I can tell you first hand once you get outside of our little bubble here it's a different game. Coaching is 10 times what it was in the 90's! We didn't win it with all that D1 talent before the coaching got way better. We won't win it being one deminsional and that's not counting all the D1 talent Chuke had. It's going to take a great defense, a physical offense that is efficient throwing the ball. A KICKER!!! Plus great special teams. You can't be weak in 1 area anymore just ask Boyle Co how important their kicker was for them twice the year before last.

I just wish the people around here would learn to love and support our kids for who they are NOW! They are a bunch of country kids that love each other. They love our communitty and they work their rear ends off for it! They understand the work it takes to be a winner. They know what it's like to feal abandonded and what it's like when moral is low. They also know they have the character inside them to fight through it together and come out the other end stronger. We might not have a bunch of D1 kids right now but we have kids that know the honor it is to wear a Bulldog uniform on Friday nights. They know they represent the tradition and they also know they are going to make memories. They know there will be doubters and haters. There will be fools who hide behind fake names on dumb message boards that have no accountability. They also know that those people don't mean squat. The people who do mean squat are those who line up beside them in the weightroom all off season. The same guys that line up beside them prepared on Fri nights.
Basketball suffered a major setback because of lack of support. The new coach and kids are doing everything they can and should be commended. Baseball is set up to have a great season. The girls sports are in a position to have a great Spring. Football is on the edge of buying into the bull+ falling apart or using all that has gone down to pull together and make this season one for the ages. After years of fighting we are finally 3A where we should have been all along. We have leadership, talent and a bond between the 4 walls there. Whoever gets this job I hope they get support. The fickle fans need to go somewhere else and be fickle. This is our home. Thick or thin, football or softball, tennis or band it doesn't matter! We've got enough people that look down their noses at us. Until the day comes and we get our head out of our ***+ realize that the only way this place is going to get better is by sticking together then we will continue in the downhill spiral we are in.
It's quite simple! YOU ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION AROUND HERE OR YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
