Next coach at Knox Central
#1
Since Mills is gone who will it be.
#2
Since the decision has been made what now for the Panthers.
#3
Why did you start 2 threads on the same thing?
#4
Nevermind its fixed now.
#5
If this is official, I feel so bad for Knox Central!
#6
accident,
I started the thread but it never showed up. Did it the secound time and both showed up. Go figure sorry about that. I tried to close it but could not get it off. If an administrator could please fix the problem it would be greatly appreciated.
#7
Already done.

I'm really dissapointed in coach Mills. I thought him to be a better man than what he has shown. He lied to everyone in KNOX. Directly to parents, players. I totally understand why he took the job, and I'm sure it was a hard decision to make, but it would have been better for him to have said I'm considering the offer or I don't know than a direct lie. It goes way aginst his character, I hope he had some body guards with him when he told the players. When just a few days ago he told them other wise.
#9
Things change. A few weeks, even days ago I don't think he was considering the move. He did not even apply to my knowledge until late in the process is what I have heard.

In no way should the people of KC have hard feelings towards Coach Mills. The time he spent at KC he worked everyday to improve the program and left it in A LOT BETTER SHAPE than when he arrived. That is all you can ask for as a fan IMO.
#10
You can ask for respect and lieing to many people is not the same respect that his fans, players, and parents have treated him with since he has been here. If he truly did not know what he wanted to do he should have never said he was going to stay. Oh well just one more reason to hate bell county now.
#11
Good luck to all concerned down there. I hate it for Knox...but I'd be looking at Scotty Russell hard right now if I was an administrator for some continuity on the developing success that Knox has had the last few years with it's football program. I hope that they have at least shown him some interest as the backup plan in case Mills quit...whether he(being Mills) said he was staying or not so that he(Russell) would be thinking about what he wanted to do in that situation. Good Luck in your choice!
#12
Russell should get an opportunity. He has been looking at Head Coaching gigs already so he has some desire to do that. He has been a big part of the rise of KC football just like Mills and the rest of the staff.

Russell should be the front runner.
#13
Russell has been rumored for other jobs so I think he will definitely be at or near the top of the list of people to replace that other guy, but I think the job is very enticing because Knox is a respectable program that is now used to winning. They have great facilities and talented core of returning players as well as a talented group of 8th graders coming up. Talent doesn't always mean success. Coach Mills did great things with this program and I wish him the best but his legacy at Knox will always be tarnished and he will never be able to return if something happens at Bell like the last time Dudley left.

Nobody fromKnox can really say anything about Mills in my opinion.
There were many years Knox didnt even win a game and got thrashed week in and week out.
He turned your school around into what it is and made Knox very competetive.
If it wasnt for being in the same district as Bell, Knox probably would have 3 or 4 district titles under their belt.
As for the new coach, i would try to get a well named coach. Someone who is very well respected and someone who will lead them to the next step.
4A is probably the most competetive class in KY, especially with the realignment. I just hope they make the right decision and dont hire some knock off from around here.
The facilities are great and brand new and would entice many coaches to take the job, only downfall is youd have to live in Bvill where there is literally nothing to do but set in a parking lot and watch cars go by.
Best of luck to KC in their search and hopefully Knox will continue their success in 2011.

3 NamesJay Cobb- Campbellsville HC
Bob Lawson- Dunbar HC
Mike Copely- Former Greenup Co HC

We dont want Jay Cobb, Bob Lawson, nor Mike Copely..... We will keep what we got, Scott Russell, Jeremy Napier, and Chaz Martin. Who knows, maybe add another asst or two. Our program is going in the right direction, and yes, thanks to Wayne Mills, BUT let's not forget a head coach is only as good as who he has around him... Just like any leader, whether he/her be in an elected office, military, or business world.

Let close this chapter in the book and drive on. Let's NOT drag this hiring process out, like Bell did, so we can keep our kids motivation high. Spring is just around the corner, so I say, Scott Russell get your playbook ready and let's get ready for August! Who is behind me?
#17
Bobby Joe Lawson is an interesting name.
Whered you come up with that one?
I could definitely see it happening though. He's from Whitley County, went to high school and played there and went on to cumberland where he played and eventually ended up coaching there after graduating.
Its close to home and a lot better looking opportunity for him IMO.
Id like to see that. I know he applied for the Whitley job when it came open a few years ago but Black got it.
He would be a good hire, young, energetic, and experienced.
#18
Hmmm Thats a job I could see Frazier in. Upgrade in facilities and talent. Funny thing is he could make LCC who snubed him twice look awfully um....well you know
#19
People will get on here and blow this out of proportion like the Bell job until it is filled. In the end, also just like the Bell job, there is only one candidate and he will take it. He is already there.
#20
Agreed but there are ppl in Knox Administration that could mess the obvious up.
#21
Knox is turning into quite a program I wish the kids and the new coach good luck!
#22
The bad thing about the Knox job is that they will play the Lex-Cath, Boyle district in the playoffs. They are good, but are they that good, especially with a new coach and a new system? Only time will tell. I just hope that the hiring process @ Bell will not hurt the Knox program as far as preparation for next season.

It will not be a new system. It will be the same one they have had. Someone will need to step up and run the defense now.

Your point here is a valid one. The good news for us is that our players have been literally working since the Bell game last year. I know several who set Personal Records by more than 20-30 pounds on every lift at max day a couple weeks ago. They got started sooner and have been working harder than every before.

Any coach who gets the honor of leading these young men will be blessed indeed. And I will say that I support hiring Coach Russell to be the head coach. He has a running start to doing what we all want - lead our program with honor; max out the potential of each young man; and see to it that every year from 2011 on is another step toward bringing Knox to place where we are the clear King of Mountain Football.
#25
Centrals gonna take some hard " knox" next year for sure (pun intended), I see them being in the same place they've been for the past couple of years, close, but not quite.
#26
The goal at Knox Central for the past few years has been to become a state championship quality program. To do that they have to be able to compete with the Boyles, Highlands, and Lex Caths of the world. So be it.

As for a coach, I hope they take a hard look at Russell, but let's explore all the possibilities before a decision is made. KC is an attractive program now and should attract the attention of some top of the line people.
No big rush.
#27
Coach Russell should be the next head man, Jeff Canady will come on board as a assistant. That is the word out of Knox
#28
I think Scotty Russell, to my knowledge we scored more points with him as o cord as any teams in history at Knox
#29
How about Terry Mac as O-C
#30
The rumor mill has Jay Cobb as the next coach
