any word on how the search is going to find a new head coach at Henry? or is their AD/girls basketball coach going to wait until after his girls basketball season is over to hire a head football coach? Hope the best for the young men of the HC football program, seems like HCHS has a problem with keeping a head coach for more than 2-3 seasons, still can't figure out the root of that problem.

Other than this past year I think Martin and Engstrand were both there for 4-5 years. Not sure where the 2-3 years comes from?

I heard they are getting the interviews scheduled for the 1st-2nd week back from break.

I was told by a person that should know, that they have some very good appliciants, and interviewing is starting soon, they are just trying to line everything up.

Hope Henry County gets a great coach.

They say they have good applicants every time its like a broken record......This hire will be interesting to say the least. Whats the over and under on how long the next coach stays?

Good luck to Henry County, they have very nice kids and they work hard the talent will be down, classes like they had the last two years are not commonplace there. And the numbers are not there in the remaining classes currently. They have passed on some quality coaches in the past two go arounds and ended up with an interim deal, Hopefully some of these coaches will apply again.

Good point, I think Ray Graham was a good hire, but he proved to be different from the man they hired.
I do not know why a coach will not stay at Henry. The Basketball coaches leave every few years as well as the Football coaches.
I think the administration needs to look into the question concerning coaches leaving.
Henry County is only 35 minutes from Louisville and 1 hour from Lexington. I believe that it is a excellent place to settle down and raise a family.
For a coach the facilites are 2nd to none. Like most rural area schools the talent level will be up and down.
I just want a coach that wants to be here, and plans on staying around for awhile.

Oldhenry, we understand what you want, but what is it the admin wants???

Well that would probably be up to a new coach who stays and who goes.

The facilites are top notch and first class. The new field house is complete with 2 locker rooms, coaches office, training room, 2000 plus sq ft. weight room, all new equipment was purchased for the weight room, and a 20x25 yd indoor practice facility with the turf from the Tennesse Titans indoor practice feild when they replaced it a few years ago. Not many public schools can boast facilities like that.

HC has nice facilities and potential to be even better, but any money for them will have to be raised, and the indoor facility is not always as accessible as a coach would prefer. Weight room is very nice could probably use some dumbells and a few equipment pieces, but better than most places.

Although with the new district re-alignment that will be in effect from 2011-2014, the next 4 years will be tough for Henry,( Henry, Lou.Central, E-Town, Larue) but Henry would be a fantastic head coaching job complete with facilities, community/fan support, and dedicated hard working players. Not all the talent in the world, but great support and hard work from all. Im as confused as everyone else about why they cant keep a head coach. Any news on the coach search? I have heard 30+ have inquired, and may be narrowed down to about 7. Greenup Co former coach, Ballard Memorial former coach very interested according to sources. best of luck to Henry, hopefully the new hire will stay and become a household name in the community.

Sounds like a golden opportunity to build a program. The distance to Louisville and Lexington are also great.

Looks good from the outside, but there is no chance of ever getting assistants in the school, or any school in the district for that matter. As mentioned previously, the upper admin. will not allow anyone who coaches to teach (I guess the assumption that test scores are not good and haven't been good for nearly a decade, were attributed to the 4 coaches in the building). Getting a staff in the building is undoubtedly needed to build a program. I hope whomever the HC is knows he will do it on his own. Not many, if any, assistants will stick around to see him through it. It's a shame, everything is in place to be successful, except an admin that cares about kids and sports.

OUCH!!!
No agrument here.

Bigboy26 is exactly right, One coach wanted a job in the building this past summer. Coach Graham pushed for this Engstrand did as well before he left. this teacher was Special education teacher of the year for his current school district.......Principal at HC told that coach in a phone conversation "central office has made it clear that no coaches are to be hired as teachers" I may be a few words off but that was the conversation. It was made well known through out the building and to other coaching applicants this was the expectation. Graham had another coach he wanted in the buidling that was denied as well, there were open jobs in the certification areas for these coaches.
Alot of people do not know this due to the fact the coaches involved try to be classy and not say stuff about the School so it will do well in the future, but they don't call me whistle-blower for nothing, call it like I see it.

With a new coach brings new hope. The Henry County banquet was last night and there was some heavy hearts through out the night, you can tell the coaches from last year really enjoyed the kids there. And the kids cared deeply as well. I know one coach is for sure gonna miss the place. DOA!

The whole problem is HC's athletic director. Who is also the girls basketball coach, which is one of the main problems. Nothing against the basketball program but the director has made it clear he wishes HC to be seen as a "Basketball school." He has no interest in the football program. How is it that he can be the athletic director AND coach but he won't hire a coach and also allow im to be a teacher? Just curious.:please:

I've heard the same about what Bigboy said, and straight from a very, very, very reliable source. Sad, sad.

We will have new head coach very soon. Don't know the exact day but they have made their final lists. HC will be in good hands....

Any names yet?

Well who is on the list?? My guess is they will get a decent coach this time around. But will that bring success with it?

I have never met the final 3 choices. I do know that the committee is happy with the men.
We may know something within a week. The assistants is a concern. There has been between 45 -55 kids (not counting baseball and Basketball players) Lifting.

It doesn't matter how good the head coach is, if he doesn't have but two or three assistants things are going to be tough.
