Aaliyah Wells continued her hot start to the season Tuesday.
Wells, Collins high's star forward, flirted with a triple-double – recording 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals - to lead the Titans to a 64-45 victory over Iroquois in the consolation round of the Lady Dragon Hoop Fest.
Wells hit 10 of 14 shots, including her only 3-point try, and also made her only free throw attempt as Collins (5-2) finished 2-1 in the tournament at South Oldham.
“She’s playing very well,” Conder said of Wells. “She’s shooting the ball very well right now. She’s probably 80 percent for the season...I ask a lot of her, and I’m pleased with the way she’s been playing.”
But she didn’t do it alone. Juniors Leeara Cardwell and Rebecca Mouser added eight points apiece, and sophomore guard Bailey Rankin scored seven in her first start of the season.
“She gave us the little spark we needed,” Conder said.
Cardwell and Rankin added five steals apiece, and Cardwell tallied five assists and Rankin three. Collins committed 18 turnovers, but many of those came in the open court.
“I thought for the most part we took care of the basketball in the halfcourt pretty well,” Conder said.
The Titans shot 44.1 percent from the field (26 of 59), while holding the Raiders to 40.9 percent (18 for 44) shooting.
Senior guard Brittanie Glaser scored a game-high 23 points for Iroquois (1-6), the 2009 state champions.
Collins next hosts Danville (7-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Max Performance Invitational Tournament.
