Yogibear Wrote:It is no more difficult to win a region in basketball than football. That's crazy talk. If anything it is easier. You only have to win one game to make a regional tournament. I'd equate winning a district in football in fact to winning the region in basketball. Getting to the semis in football about like getting to the final four or eight in bball. Winning it all is winning it all. When single A schools can win the sweet 16 it can't be that difficult. In football Class A teams could never beat the top 6 A teams. Just a matter of opinion I guess.
I completely disagree.
Give me basketballs post season format any day. One true champion. It's better than the class system and much more difficult.
I agree, it is a matter of opinion.

Matter of perspective also. Ask Clay Co. They may say Baskteball. Ask Bell, they may say football. Who knows? Just seems to me that the bigger schools should walk. I will say that the best team wins more often than not in football. In basketball one guy can go off and win. That is what sucks about it to me. Again, a matter of opinion.

Actually, I was just making a positive comment about the school, in general. I'm sure Jones isn't worried about who is not playing for him. He gets the best out of the kids he has.
It seems you have some sort of vendetta against the HC Boy's Basketball program. If that is the case, I'm sure you aren't the type of fan that the HC people want. You can't like one part of the school and not the other. Well, unless you have personal ties to the football team, that is. Are you Tom Larkey?
12-11-2010, 07:21 PM
Seriously, man. Is this another shot? Why would you ask him that? Coach Larkey has not vendetta against basketball.

I was completely kidding. That last sentence had nothing to do with having a vendetta, just having ties to the football team. I see where you got that, though, and I'm going to delete it. I think Larkey is a great coach!
Thanks for pointing that out!

I just wanted to apologize for using Mikey Clem's name in a post earlier. I believe he was insulted. I would never do that. I love Mikey. Great guy. I was just trying to make the point that there are all types of people on the sideline: preachers, coaches, cheerleaders, fans, coach's sons, ball boys, ball girls, girl managers. Again no offense to the big guy. I was not trying to be insulting, I figured everyone knew him and the point would be made that not everyone on the sideline is a coach.

I think that is a valid point. Bell has had trouble winning the big game in basketball, and may feel that it is much easier to be successful in football. I think, however, because of the class system in football, it is much easier to win in football. It isn't a knock against football because it would not work without a class system. It is just the way it is.

Do you play or coach?
Harlan County already has the nicest school and gymnasium I have seen in this state. When the football field is finally finished, they may have the nicest facilities of any high school in Kentucky. Does the one million dollar donation cover most of the expenses of the new football stadium? What is the estimated time of completion?

I definitely don't have a vendetta. I hope they both do great!
Actually, I don't even live in Harlan Co. and I tell everyone about the programs there. I've been really impressed so far!

That's what I love about basketball. Special players taking over games. But your right, it is a matter of perspective

Zaga I'm not saying that didn't happen....but I'd love to have heard that myself. I have never heard Jones make a comment like that.

Once complete the football/track facilities will be awesome, but I think the weight room will be in stage 2 of the building process. Stage one only calls for finished concessions, restrooms, and lockerrooms. The weightroom would just be a shell but I'm guessing they could bring everything from the fieldhouse. The film room, weightroom, coaches offices, practice facility, home press boxes , and bleacher expansion are in phase 2. But we will have a field and bleachers just hoping it's completed in time for some homegames! Lee, Va., Letcher, and Perry are the only home games I can think of.

Looking forward to seeing the new facilites, it will no doubt be the best in the state.

I'll be honest, football at HC is where its at right now, why do you think the basketball team is playing favorites to football players right now. Football has had great success over the past 2 yrs and baskball has had alot to leave the program. Weak district in basketball, strong district in football. Look at the fans at each game, football around 1500 each home game(est) not including playoffs, basketball around 50. Give basketball 4 yrs, Football is NOW:1:

I agree with you about the football team with their success, and the coaches and players deserve a TON of credit. We all hope they bring home the state championship next year and many years to come. As for the basketball team "playing favorites to football players," is again a dumb comment. You must be related to a kid on the basketball team that didn't play football, and he got beat out by someone that did play. The best players are playing, just like the best players played in football. To my knowledge that's the way it goes in every sport.

I'm done with responding to the comments about comparing football/basketball/baseball or whatever. We are a school that should be proud of every sport, win or lose. Everyone has their personal favoirte, mine is baseball, but we should want ALL our sports teams to do well and it not be some sort of competition between our own school.
Anyway, back to the topic. What do we need to improve on so we can not only get back to the state semi's, but win a state championship?
