Johnson Central's JJ Jude

Brave Soul Wrote:No I am not kidding J.J. wrestled 160 last year. That means he is 2 weight classes above him. Ther is NO WAY J.J. will ever get back below 150.
So in that case I don't care what this kids walking around weight is, he is still considerably smaller than J.J. As for J.J. throwing him to his back well that kind of thing happens! He probably wasn't there for long and also probably spent the rest of the week taking it to J.J.

I might also add that J.J. was a heavy favorite to win the 160 Lb. weight class last season, but he was pinned in the semi finals by a kid that he whipped 2 weeks prior. So like I said those things happen!!

Are you not listening. They wasn't 10lbs between the two kids when they wrestled. Have you ever wrestled? JJ did suprise him. But JJ stayed comptetitive with him all week. JJ was a high school sophmore at this time. If you can not see how amazing that is then you do not know wrestling.

Not only is he one of the best running backs in the state. He is currently ranked 1st in the state in wrestling. Kentuckywrestling.com

So in what way does this translate into a full ride? D1 coaches don't tell a kid, especially within ear shot of someone else that if he has a good couple of seasons that he will get a full ride.
I'm listening with both ears, and all I hear is you defending your position. You are trying to give him something that is not his.
And yes I wrestled! I also talk to D1 coaches on a regular basis.
I think JJ is a very good wrestler, and I am in no way trying to take anything from him, but keep it real please.

Who cares about wrestling? Take it to the wrestling forum. I don't want to see or picture 2 guys in tights rolling around together.

Negative. You can go back and look at my post. I did not say JJ has been offered a full ride. I said the coaches told him he is on track. If he continues to develop like he has then its going to be there for him. However you tried to downgrade his accomplishments. Wideleft, this is no place for a homophobic. If you have some kind of feelings you are opressing then deal with it. Do not project it onto others.

Where did you wrestle at Brave Soul?

If you are going to make such a bold statement, such as the one above, please take the time out to actually think it out before you come off with a horrendous post.

As you would say, "he play for a coach that like to run the score up." My take on the situation would be that Mr. Jude plays for an offensive genius. Coach Matney has developed the talent to where it needs to be for JC to be successful and run his offense to near perfection. The majority on this very site cries foul when JC puts points on the board and then the skeptics come out to criticize when they don't light it up. It's a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation for these kids. Why? Because Johnson Central used to be the doormat in EKY. Teams would salivate at the idea of having the Eagles roll into town for Senior Night or Homecoming. As we speak, Mr. Matney and company have elevated themselves into a very respectable ball team.

"what kind of number will he have" Well, that's another good question. My guess is that he would probably not have the 586 or 437 yard games. Not because he couldn't, JJ is without a doubt one of the better running backs that I have had the pleasure of watching play. If he played for a team that utilized the belly, then yes, he would have some huge nights similar to the ones above. If he played for a 60-40 running team, then I could see him average 190-220 a game. If you haven't had the chance, please go to ihigh.com and watch the CovCath game. One play that really stands out in my mind is not any of the long TD's or the carrying of 3 defenders as he fought for extra yardage most of the night. The play I'm making reference to is in the 3rd Quarter, Mr. Jude was almost in the clear but was horse-collared by the CovCath defender. He did not go down, nor lose any of his forward momentum instantaneously. JJ had the physical ability to keep his body's center of gravity in front of his hips, kick his legs to help sustain balance and gain another 5-10 yards. That is impressive. (Now, before you discredit my quick little Physics lesson, anyone that has taken an Engineering Physics course and 4 Calculus classes will agree that via calculations, free-body diagrams, vector analysis and proofs, that this is in fact no small feat.) I say congratulations Mr. Jude on a fabulous season that I'm sure all of Johnson County will cherish forever.

What will his legacy be? JJ is still writing it.

But how does he compare to some of EKYs best from the past 10-20 years?

I honestly couldn't tell you how he compares but I can tell you he is very talented and all of us here in Johnson County love him...Go Eagles!!
You still haven't answered my question Brave Soul. Where did you wrestle at?

Very Well Said! Great Post..:theman: "Matney"
Hoot Gibson Wrote:I agree totally. But I remember Woody Hayes taking a chance signing a short muscular prospect named Archie Griffin (5'9", 188 lbs.) back in tOSU's glory days. Signing the bigger player is the safest thing for s college coach to do, all else being equal, but sometimes it pays to take a chance on a smaller guy.

Arliss Beech was probably the most talented high school running back that I saw play in person but I would rather have Jude as a high school running back because of his endurance. Beech ran for over 300 yards against a badly coached JC team one year on very few carries but he spent about half the game on the sideline trying to shake leg cramps. I also saw Michael West play for Lawrence County, and IMO, Jude is better.
I got a question. How in the world do you remember Woody Hayes taking a chance on the sort muscular Archie Griffin back in OSU's glory days (early-mid 70's)? How do you remember that when you supposedly played high school football at the same time I did. I wasn't born til 85', lol...

I am obviously not who you think I am. I was not in high school when Archie began playing but I was there when he finished his career. I am a recovering tOSU fan too.

You may have played with or against my son but not me.

No problem. Woody would have been pulling for Johnson Central tonight BTW.
Any update on JJ's final yardage from tonight?
I don't know if he even a 100. Right around the hundred mark on about 25-30 carries. I think Highlands will take it. I truthfully thought he'd get more.

So a little over 3 yards per carry. Not his normal numbers. I think it was posted on here that he would get his 8 per carry against HHS.

I too thought he would get more, way to step up HHS D! Jude is a great player and I was even more impressed the last 2 weeks with his play on D. We will continue to hear about this kid next year.
26 carries for 92 yards.

Channing Fugate is starting at Tennessee as a freshman...Jude is twice the RB he is. nowhere close in size but i know plenty of standout d-1 players smaller than jude. Not knocking Fugate in anyway, hardworking strong kid but I wouldn't trade two of him for one Jude and he starts in the SEC so lets not limit JJ JUDE. Rolling up 3258(???) yds as a junior. What he lacks in size he makes up for in heart and he puts as many as hours in as anyone in the offseason. Shouldn't have any problem playing D-1 if he so chooses. Personally i think the only decision he will be forced to choose is rather he wants to play d-1 football or wrestle anywhere in the nation. Love this kid and i appologize for being so blunt and once again I'm not trying to knock fugate in any way...A humble country boy from the hills of eastern ky starting as a freshman in the SEC in the backfield is def. nothing to frown upon. He has ignited a sense of pride throughout the mountains due to his success.

Just a great scheme by HHS to slow Jude down, they obviously keyed on him hard and did a great job which opened Bratton up but just wasnt enough for the W.

I love the way he plays. Just a great all-around football player. That being said, unless he grows a few inches and gets a lot bigger, he's not playing D1 unless he walks on. If I was a coach, I'd take a chance on him, but the best h.s. players aren't always the guys getting the D1 scholarships. I see him maybe as a walkon at Eastern, or playing somewhere like Georgetown.

Jude will not be a walk-on football anywhere. If he does not play football on a full scholarship, then he will be wrestling on a scholarship.
Let me say this. JJ is a great kid and awesome athlete. I know him very well and he is nothing but great to everyone that treats him with respect. He is a great football player and wrestler. But I have this to say about his talent level.

I dont believe he is a D1 football player. I watched him play a couple times this year. in one game he was great in the other Sheldon Clark held him to 31 yards rushing. I know it was a home coming game for him and SCHS has a great defense but a D1 level RB has to gain over a hundred yards a game in the mountains. But saying that Channing Fuagate only gained around 50 yards against Sheldon Clark last year. So some may think he is D1 level but not me.

Now for wrestling. He is without a doubt a D1 caliber wrestler. He will be wrestling for a D1 school after next year.

I don't think Fugate had that many yards and he still did ok with college. You can not base it off from one game. I have seen SC hold several good players under their average. One was Tim Couch who lost the game by throwing an interception. He still managed to go D1 and to the NFL. SC also kept Derrick Smith from HHS from being productive too but yet someone took the chance on him as well.
