Week 1(Nov. 28 - Dec. 3) 15th Region Rankings..
#1
Well, these are my first official rankings of the 15th Region season. One week of basketball is in the books and it was interesting to say the least. I posted my last rankings at a strange time and I have no clue why, but from now on they’ll be ready by Sunday morning. Some teams still haven’t played, and it’s hard to judge at this point but here goes…

1. Paintsville – They lost to Lawrence County by two, but it’s young in the season and they are still the favorites to win despite what some may say. They have the most talent and the best coach.

2. South Floyd – Big win VS. Johnson Central lands South Floyd the #2 spot, and though I don’t think they are the 2nd best team overall in the region, they got it done the other night and I can’t say anything bad about that.

3. Johnson Central – A loss to a decent South Floyd team isn’t the end of the world. I’m not clear on how much McCarty played in the loss but in my opinion this team has the 2nd most talent in the region, but they lost and this lands them a big #3 spot.

4. Belfry – A nice win over Perry Central puts Belfry here. I’m unclear on how good Perry Central is, but I know that Maynard and Case are a great combo and could make this team very dangerous.

5. Shelby Valley – Not too much to say with a win over David School, and most likely Cordia today (Don’t know the score), but with Riddle (Mitchell and Cade) they could make some noise.

6. Sheldon Clark – Lost a tough overtime game to a very good Pike Central team. Nothing to hang their heads about and they’ll rebound back I’m sure.

7. Pike County Central – Big win over a good Cardinal team. Brad Lowe finished with 38 points. You don’t stop him. You don’t win.

8. Prestonsburg – No games yet, plays Magoffin this week so we’ll go from there.

9. Lawrence County – A lot of you will criticize me for this ranking of Lawrence, but one game doesn’t sky-rocket you all the way to the top. We’ll see if that happens after this week in part 2 of Paintsville VS. Lawrence Co.

10. East Ridge – No games yet, they’ve got 3 cupcakes on the schedule for next week so they will be 3-0 going into next week’s rankings.

11. Betsy Layne – Lost to Magoffin County which hurt their moral to start the season and lost a close one to Letcher Central tonight. They’re better than what they’re playing right now but need to get it together.

12. Magoffin County – Got a huge win for them over Betsy Layne, but then fool around and lose to a not so good Cumberland team. They have Prestonsburg this week so we’ll see how good they are.

13. Allen Central – Lost to Knott County Central by 12, but put up some points so we’ll see next week when they play Pike Central and Betsy Layne.

14. Phelps – I was really excited about Phelps because they returned a lot and I figured they’d be pretty good, but Jenkins beat them by double digits.Ouch.

15. Pikeville – No games yet, and play JBS this week.

16. Piarist – Been around longer than David School so they’re 16th

17. The David School – Already on their way to being the new Piarist, maybe even worse. And that’s saying something.

That’s that…We can agree to disagree so go ahead and have a blast.

Couple of teams could probably be moved around but other than that it sounds pretty good to me.

My Top 10

4.Paintsville- Alot of talanted players but loss to Lawerence county
5.Pike Central-Big win for them against Sheldon Clark
6.Sheldon Clark-Tough loss but they will rebound from it in my opinion they have the best player in the region (Brandon May)
7.Shelby Valley-Cake walk game against David but there still a decent team with Mitchell and Cade riddle
8.Lawerence County-Big win against Paintsville but could of been a fluke
9.Prestonburg-They have some good players but havent played any games yet
10.Betsy Layne- They are alot better team than what they are showing right now, but are getting off on a slow start, come tourny time i think they will be able to make things happen

One win and they're playing the best basketball in the region?
#6
They looked impressive against Perry Central from what i hear and they looked good in their scrimmage games also. Its just my opinion man

I think your ranking are right on. I thought Phelps was gonna be tough but if they lost to Jenkins that bad they can't be very good.
#8
Looks pretty good Alfus but I don't know if South Floyd is at number 2 after the one game. I still think Allen Central will cause trouble for some of these teams and especially in the 58th because of the way Coach Martin has them playing together and their attitudes about working hard.

This is my take on it:

1. Paintsville- Overhyped, but still pretty **** good when you have Landon Slone on your team.
2. Johnson Central- When that guy named Jamie McCarty regains a clean bill of health, look out Paintsville, here come the Eagles!
3. Pike Co. Central- A great starting 5 led by Brad Lowe has them at #3 on my list
4. Belfry- Very underrated, probably by me too, BIG win over Perry Central, the defending 14th region champs.
5. Shelby Valley- The defending champs, the top dogs, the guys with the big target right on their backs. Shelby Valley lost a lot, but they still have momentum from last season.
6. Prestonsburg- One of the most underrated Prestonsburg teams ever, last year was the build up to this. With perhaps the deepest bench in the region, the Blackcats come in at #6.
7. Sheldon Clark- Brandon May needs to step up and lead this team a hell of a lot better in my opinion. They have a real good squad this year, they just need to realize it.
8. South Floyd- One of the most overrated teams in the region this year. They lost every bit of their low post game at graduation when Steven Stanley and Burnett Little walked through their doors for the last time.
9. Magoffin Co.- An underrated squad that could turn a lot of heads this year. If they score a win this Tuesday against a good Prestonsburg ball club coupled with the victory over the overhyped Betsy Layne team, they will prove that they're no longer that 3-20something team you saw a couple of years ago.
10. Betsy Layne- The most overrated, overhyped, over appreciated team in this region by far. Mane Klokocar was supposed to be the big man on campus this year and he looked very lost in their 1st 2 games. Betsy Layne is not as good as everybody thinks they are.
11. East Ridge- Haven't played any games yet. They should be 3-0 next week with that piss-poor schedule.
12. Allen Central- Much improved from last year, but the term "much" still doesn't much when your top player is a freshman who isn't that good.
13. Lawrence Co.- Big, BIG win over #1 Paintsville, but it's just a fluke in my eyes. I could be wrong.
14. Pikeville- Not much hype behind the Panthers. They could surprise you this year.
15. Phelps- Phelps cinderella season from last year probably won't happen again, they have a tougher schedule this time.
16. Piarist- The Piarist School. Not much to add to that, but now they're no longer the basement-dwellers in the 15th.
17. David School- A way too early jump into the KHSAA is defined by an 85 point trampling at the hands of defending 15th region champion Shelby Valley. Just imagine what would happen if Johnson Central or Paintsville got their hands on them. McCarty and Slone would set new state scoring records. The Piarist School can finally say, "We're not the worst team in the 15th anymore! Let's celebrate bitches!!"

Dang good analysis Get Down!

Let me ask all of you on here why you think that the win over paintsville was a big fluke. H*** they won the District last year in the 64, with the likes of ashland, boyd and rose hill, they were one game away from going to the regional finals. And yet no one from the this area gives them any credit, why do you call it a fluke because they beat the all mighty Tigers of paintsville, come on wake up, they may go to paintsville and get beat, big deal, they will be right there at the end of the year, so keep on thinking that they are just a fluke they are youg and are getting better each game, so if it was a fluke i would hate to see what everyone says win they beat some other top teams. This what is great about this site express your self, but people need to give credit were credit is due. I was listening to the ashland game last night and they got beat by 50 but at least there radio play by play ****ie gave credit were credit is due.

South Floyd #8? I still don't think there best in the region or anything but after the big win over Johnson Central it showed there higher than 8, thats rediculous. South Floyd didn't lose all of there talent in Stephen, and Bubby. Ryan Johnson, Ethan Johnson, and Mason Hall are 3 of the best guards in the region and Ryan Little is the BEST big man in the 15th.
#13
Well, I respect your insight but it is a bit uninformed. Last year, Lawrence Co. had a player by the name of Derek Lawrence. He was 6' 9'' and nominated to be a McDonalds High School All-American. Yeah, they lost him to graduation. That is why the win was a fluke because they don't have anybody like him anymore. I said it was a fluke but I also said I could be wrong, remember?
#14
How can JC be # 2 and SF #8? Thats horrible.. And thats so funny what you wrote about Piarist! not

[QUOTE="Get Down, Get Down, UHH!!"]This is my take on it:
8. South Floyd- One of the most overrated teams in the region this year. They lost every bit of their low post game at graduation when Steven Stanley and Burnett Little walked through their doors for the last time.

Funny thing Little had 23 in the low post against Johnson Central
#17
South Floyd might not be the top three teams in the 15th but there is no way they are #8.
#18
Well lets see, I loved watching Endicott play, but he never had a game last year were he had 31 pts 21 rebounds and 10 assist, and that is what Shawn Thompson had!!!!!!
#19
Rankings will be alot different further into the season. ER plays a weak schedule starting out. There game against at least one team was cancelled and they subbed the David School in for that one at least. Don't really know how they will stack up this season but the boys have lost ALOT of talent in graduating seniors over the past two seasons.

Pretty good rankings though Get Down. Great analysis, always good to see someone backing their opinions.
#20
I said low post game, not backcourt basketballstar. They do have talent in the backcourt, but it's overrated. Ryan Johnson is not the #3 player in the region and Ryan Little sure as hell isn't the best big man in the region. Don't get me wrong, you're probably a South Floyd fan, (or you hate Johnson Central with every fiber of your being), but I am neutral on this, plus, I contribute to a lot of web pages and newspapers in professional sports, but I just find high school sports to be so much more intriguing. South Floyd is overrated, don't question it, but consider that Jamie McCarty was hurt, did not play the 1st half, and he still managed to reel off 21 points! Imagine if he had played at 100% and he played that 1st half, South Floyd couldn't have competed if he had been healthy. South Floyd should be worshiping that broken foot of McCarty's because that is why so many people are hyping them now. By the way, didn't South Floyd struggle against June Buchannon not too long ago, or did they lose? I'm not for sure.
#21
Yea Tribe agree with you all i am asking is give credit were credit is due. And also in ref. to Endicott, yea he was good but he was not the all around player like Thompson is, Shawn can step out hit the three, take you off the dribble or just post up on anyone. and loves to pass the ball and hit the boards.
#22
Ryan Little only played half the game due to foul trouble and had 23 pts. and Johnson Central didn't have anybody that could stop Ryan Johnson so he must be pretty good.
#23
I'm sorry bout that, I meant Endicott. I can't believe I put Lawrence! Good point Batpuff and thank you to thetribe for your complement, as well to you Beef.
#24
Some say that South Floyd is overrated but they do have talent this year. They have 3 good shooters.

P-burg has a few good players as well.

McCarty and Slone will be two to watch this year as long as all injuries heal as expected.

 I think someones jealous of South Floyd...lol...I love this though, mccarty had 21 in 20 minutes thats pretty good but his foot didnt seem to be bothering him to me and little had 23 in 20 minutes because he he didnt get to play much the second half for foul trouble and no one in the region can stop RYAN JOHNSON..
#26
all I can say is I sure hope some of the people on here like eating crow come the end of the season, maybe served with a side of fluke pie?...Go Dawgs!!!

Not calling you out because I haven't seen the boy play but this goes to all comments made about any team to the effect of "Such and such team couldn't stop this player soooo he has to be great" That's not true. Just because one team did not have size, talent, whatever the case may be in order to stop a player does not mean that the player is almighty. All teams have their strengths and their weaknesses and if a single player or team as a whole can capitalize on that then they are money. Not saying that the team is great but finding an opponents weaknesses and working on them all night long will at least keep you in the game. To me it is liking kickboxing with a person with a bad knee, you see the knee is going out so you keep hitting it and working on it to dwindle it down as much as possible, gives you the advantage of the opponent and in turn keeps you in the fight. Don't take offense as me picking you out of the crowd to question, my statement is true for all teams in that situations, your comment just made me think of it.

I knew this was gonna be the talk after South Floyd beat the hell out of Johnson Central. Aww poor McCarty had hurt foot and he scored 21 points. They'll be games he doesn't even score 21 this year and all that did was show that South Floyd really is the better team and that Johnson Central, WITH MCCARTY got shut up. I don't think anyone cares if he would have scored a hundred, South Floyd won so shut-up and quit complaining.
#29
Well put BBALLSTAR!

lol it dont matter to me what you say because the fact is South Floyd beat Johnson Central and McCarty played.
