Highlands "vs" Boyle
#31
I think alot of Boyle fans think this is the same Highlands program of 10 years ago. I am not saying Boyle won't give Highlands a good game or even beat them, but I hope they realize that HHS has taken huge steps forward as a program since a decade ago. I do not know if the same can be said for Boyle. Looking forward to a possible good rivalry.

I would love to see boyle and bell play but for some reason I don't see it happenning.

how great would it be if Boyle would move their bowl game to week 0 and have boyle, highlands, bell, and lexcath play in it! Boyle vs highlands, bell vs lexcath in 2011 then boyle vs bell and lexcath vs highlands in 2012 :worthy:

Also hearing that Dixie and Beechwood are dropping Highlands from their schedules. And SK is flat out refusing to even discuss a game with Highlands.

How sure are you that this is a done deal?i was told today that Boyle is opening up ther season next year with there own bowl game, which will include Boyle,Mercer,Alan county, and Marion county.im not sure this is true either but the source is pretty good.

I would also like to see Boyle & Bell play every year.

Highlands declined the chance to play in our bowl. They wanted a home and home instead is what folks are saying. Until Jack's latest post the word on the street was that Trinity and St. X and a team to be named later were supposed to be the teams involved in the bowl game.

Paul Dean is where I got my info from.

A lot of Highlands folks are backing this up as well.

Yeah we know, we know. I wish we'd have played this year and last year but I am happy to be playing you guys nonetheless.

My source is closer to the program than paul dean, but on most of the stuff he tells me. he asks not to be metioned.he is one of larrys big fishing buddies, and very involved with the program. him and pittman are very close also.

Im not saying its not true,i just want to know if it is true or just a rumor.

Good question. Paul posted it on another website that it was close to a done deal according to a source close to the program and all of the Highlands folks appeared to have corroborated this story. Saying things like this was circulating around Ft. Thomas last Friday. Highlands folks were even correcting one another on where the first game would be played at. 2011-BC, 2012-Ft. Thomas. Maybe more info will come out tomorrow at the freshman game.

After some thought,im not sure i would want to play a team as good as Highlands in the regular season that i might have to face in the state semifinals.if i thought i might have to play them in the playoffs i would want them to know as little as possible about my team so they might not be so prepared.you would need every advantage you could get against a team of that caliber.

That could be a very interesting game. Depending on when the regular season game takes place, early , mid, end, and the strategy both teams would use. What will they show, who will they play, could make for a really fun game. Do you throw it all out there and win at all cost or do you play conservative, see what each team has, set each other up. The regular season game means nothing. However, that may be the more interesting game.

When we played Highlands in the past we played in the regular season and the state championship game. The team that won in the regular season won state. My feelings are the exact opposite. Whatever happens in that game things can only get better for both teams. The loser would learn exactly what they need to know to become a better team but it still doesn't guarantee success against that team in the future. I am one of the ones that screams bring on Highlands anytime anywhere. It only benefits both programs and Ky high school football for these two play each other. To be the best you have to beat the best. Bring them on!!!!!!!

First game is Highlands.

To my knowledge the bowl will be Boyle Mercer Collins and the 4th is still a little up in the air.

I think in most cases the team who wins the first game wins the second.

So your are telling me that the highlands teams over the last few years are far better than the teams Jared lorenzen played on.Im not sure i buy this Highlands has always been Highlands, every team that has won multiple titles has ups and downs with talent from title to title.believe me i know Highlands has always been an elite program so i dont buy into your thinking that there program is far better than it was a decade ago.

So theoretically we could play Mercer 3 times?

I thought we were playing St. X? That's what I heard through the grapevine, anyways. An awful lot of excitement goin on about this bowl. Hope they get another team to draw in some money.

My guess is no. That Mercer will be the other team with Boyle that would play the other two teams announced. Just a guess. See no reason why to play Mercer in our bowl.

I hear that and believe it to be true to some extent.

What people forget outside of Boyle is that in the last 3 seasons the Rebels have produced some comparable talent with any team, even Highlands.

2008 Boyle produced TE Jordan Aumiller whom you now see catching balls from Hartline on Saturdays in a UK uniform.

2009 Rees McSheara (sp?) who was an awesome High School baller, just considered too small for Division 1 programs.

2010 Lamar Dawson, the #1 LB prospect in the state of KY.

All of this has been supported by some very good talent that may not be Division 1 but has been some fine High School talent. I know the run that HHS has had and no non-Birdie can respect it more than me. However to think that Boyle is not as talented as the 2003 or 2004 team is not very accurate IMO. While the Rebels had the Smith kid at QB and Seth Tamme, Ian Young and others - none of them have been the Division 1 prospects that Aumiller and Lawson have been.

Highlands is vastly improved from the teams Boyle played earlier in the decade.

I get the picture the game has not been played yet,Boyles already down by at least 35 to 40 pts.you Highland fans never change.

The years JLO played were very good teams, but the program as a whole is better over the past 10 years. People on here are talking about the number of D1 players, but that is not how Highlands wins championships. Highlands takes scrony kids, and makes them into maniacs, who play team ball. Highlands kids commit 100% to football year around now. It was not like that until recently. Sadly it has really hurt the other sports at Highlands, because very, very few football players play another sport. It has completely killed the track program. This program is just not having down years because of the total commitment to football. I like the fact that we are winning in football, buy it would be nice to see the coach encourage other sports in the off season(I know, there is no such thing at Highlands),and have Highlands competative in all sports.

There is not a thing you've described that is anymore new to a half dozen programs at some point in their history. I mentioned D1 players because that is always a subject worth mentioning. As to the concept that no one else knows what this is like in their past, might want to see some Trinity runs and even the Boyle run from '99 to '04.

You use the 10 year window but the truth is that Highlands current run is really for the last four years only. 10 years ago would have been 2001 and in those years of 01 and 02 the Birds were not contenders. Same was true in '05 and '06.

Jared's and Gino's Highlands teams beat the brakes off of any of the Highlands teams after. They didn't have just all stater's but All Americans. I played against both Gino and Jared's team and those teams were hounds. While Gino was the better passing quarterback, Jared was the better player simply because he could always tuck and run and he was quick in those days. They also had Brian Ulbrict who got national player of the week against us in the playoffs with like 20 something tackles and also ran for 100 yards. They also had Derick Smith but we were able make him not be a factor but that opened up the run game.

PurplePride92 Wrote:So theoretically we could play Mercer 3 times?

Mercer would be the other team we switch opponents with. We would not play them in the bowl.
#57
I know the kids sometimes don't know much but I talked to some Mercer players tonight and they said they were told they weren't playing in our bowl. When I told them I heard they were playing in it today it was news to them. They said that when Mason found out who Boyle was trying to get to come to the bowl he "politely declined" the invitation.:thatsfunn

I can agree with that. Highlands' program has seemed to have taken a step up in the last 2-3 years.

That being said, in my heart of hearts as well as my head........we'd beat you this year and last year. I'd bet money on it. Unfortunately, we'll never know.

Can't tell the source nor the rumor but I hear some news coming out of Boyle. Wondering if any of the Boyle faithful has any idea what I'm talking about????? Won't ever say it but this is a very legitimate source.....
