Highlands schedule is starting to unfold for next year. Word out is the first game in week 0 will be agianst Boyle. It is said to be a 2 year home and home series.
Also hearing that Dixie and Beechwood are dropping Highlands from their schedules. And SK is flat out refusing to even discuss a game with Highlands.

Also , a little preview of things to come between the two, Highlands frosh will be playing Boyles frosh this Thursday at 6:00 at Bolye. :Cheerlead
Glad these two programs could get that together so quickly. This is a pick up game after the Highlands vs. Newport Central Cathlic game was cancelled.

And to think some people thought Boyle was running from Highlands.

I can't confirm this, but I believe Boone and Ryle are not playing the Birds next year either. Simon Kenton has also declined. Thanks to Boyle!!

So if all of the above teams are dropping the Birds from the schedule, where will they go to complete their schedule? I assume this will mean more GCL teams?

Just a quick update....This game, I am told, will be at 6:30 on the old football field as the girls soccer team has a regional game on the new field.
Go Birds...Beat Rebels!

Guess Highlands will have to try to schedule Trinity, St.X, Cincy Elder, Cincy St.X, etc.

Better hurry, because I'm sure that is why Beechwood, Dixie, Boone, Ryle and Simon Kenton are burning up the phones of those schools to get on their schedule:popcorn:
SK & Ryle want to laud their programs, yet their schedules get weaker and weaker each year. I can't say much, my Alma Mater is not any better (CCHS), but it's a shame that programs want to schedule wins and not challenges. Kudo's to the Birds.

I did and I still do think we were running. This game saves face but how else can you explain the request to move to 5A. The geography excuse is bogus.

Are you saying they don't want to play Highlands but want to play, Elder, X, Trinity, Cincy X, etc.? Now that is funny.

I hear just like highlands a few years ago wanted to stay with CovCath, Boyle wanted to stay with LexCath and keep that rivarly going.

^ Just to clarify when they heard LC would petition to move up, they hoped to stay with them.

That's bogus too. Classification has never come between the Boyle County/Danville rivalry. Why would it come between Boyle/LC?

my guess is that the series would suffer since it is no longer for a district/regional championship and they are not cross town rivals. These kids would never see each other nor would the fans rarely see each other so the only place the rivarly bragging rights would take place would be on here. Check out what happened to the Bell/Corbin rivarly when they split classes.

Look at what the Boyle/Danville game has become. It means nothing anymore. I get more excitement over a Lexington Catholic win than I do Danville anymore. When they separated to different classes, the rivalry stayed heated for a few years but has progressively gone downhill to the point where they may not even play next year. Nothing would keep Boyle and Catholic from playing but the meaning of the rivalry would be gone. Without a district or regional championship on the line its just another game.

It is actually not a bogus reason and was a deciding factor in the decision.

I'm listening. Why the request to move up if not to avoid being in the same playoff bracket with Highlands? The geography answer doesn't wash, so what's the deal?

Maybe they are not running from highlands, just a light jog maybe hh:

Yeah, Corbin ran from Bell County since they didn't HAVE to play them anymore.
Bowling Green and Warren Central just got put in the same district when Ky went to 6 classes. Bowling Green was 3A and Warren Central was 4A. The rivalry was still very strong. Being in the same district heightens the intensity but it was always the biggest game of the year even before we went to 6 classes.

That's my point. LexCath and Boyle would not HAVE to play. A non-district rivarly only survives when two teams share the same turf Bowling Green and Warren Central was a good rivarly because it's the same town, Boyle and Danville good rivalry same town. LexCath and Boyle are not the same town and don't border each other so the opportunity for smack talk between LC and Boyle would not occur around town, at dinner, work, etc.. therefore if they weren't in the same district or class the rivalry dies and becomes just another week 0,1,2,3, or 4 game. That is if LexCath would want to play a team in a lower class that has beat them the last 5 times. However, none of this happened so we can all be happy and say that the 4A next year will get as much following between these three teams (Highlands being the other) as 6a gets between the two headed monster and which ever other team thinks they can take them on.

I somewhat agree. I am not from this area. I moved here in 1998 and I enjoy beating LexCath more than I enjoy beating Danville however, it wouldn't matter to me if it was a non district regular season game or not. A victory over LexCath is a victory over LexCath. As for the Danville game, it still means something. Danville still is ahead in the series 33-14 or something like that. And last I heard it was Danville who is threatening to do away with the game if we have a bowl game the same weekend as the Pigskin Classic and that is just an idle threat, IMO. Boyle County is Danville's biggest gate every other year and it would be ignorant on their part to do away with the game. And let Danville win a game in the series in the next year or two(which is very possible) and I guarantee you'll circle that game on your calendar the following year because every Admiral fan that you know will let you know who won that game. Long story short......regardless of classification any game between Boyle/Danville or Boyle/LexCath will NEVER be just another game.

That still will never change the perception of many many high school football fans who look at Boyle County requesting to move up to 5A as a way of escaping having to play Highlands to win a state title. It doesn't matter how you spin it, the perception was there and LexCath's reputation took a hit also. Not to mention....since when do we decide what to do based off of what LexCath does? They should be copying off of us. Either way it isn't a good look for Boyle County I don't care how you try to spin it. We look way better creating and establishing a rivalry with Highlands than we do running to 5A to keep a rivalry with LexCath. Very disappointing, IMO. As I said earlier, this game saves face. Saves a lot of face considering we could end up playing Highlands twice a year and I prefer that much better than us winning a tainted title in 5A to preserve our "district" rivalry with LexCath.

Which is how it should be. Wouldn't you rather have a rivalry with Highlands than LexCath anyways? I know I would. No brainer, IMO. Kind of like our rivalry with Bell County. Highlands can be our new Bell County.

Could be. For the last two years and counting with the exception of the State Title game there isn't one game against any team that I have looked more forward to playing. I'll miss them. Much love and respect for Bell County from me.
