Sorry for not spelling out Johnson Central in thread title. This is the second thread that I have fouled up tonight. If a mod will correct the title, I promise not to post another new thread tonight.

Johnson Central 417 yards rushing
Ashland 32 yards rushing

That was really the story of the game.

How many passing yds?

0 for JC but I missed the total for Ashland. They got some yards but I think JC came up with 3 interceptions.

This is the first time following a Johnson Central win over Ashland that I have heard Leon Hart whine about the officiating. It could not have been too one-sided against Ashland because Dickie Martin really kept pretty quiet.

Coach Hart did have some very complimentary about Johnson Central and its players. He said that JC is the best team that Ashland has played.

One of the Ashland announcers said on two or three occasions that Ashland should have been called for pass interference on Parker.

I really do not understand Highlands' fans who think that a team needs to pass regardless of whether the other team can stop the run. Just because some state champions in Kentucky have used a balanced offense does not mean that is the only way to win a title. Warren Central will probably win another Indiana 5A state title this season and Highlands would be a solid underdog against them.

Anyway, Johnson Central should be able to work on its passing game over the next three weeks. I think that they will have a credible passing game if they need it. Parker has great size and great hands.

The lack of a passing game has not been Johnson Central's problem against Highlands in the past. Their problem has been having so many players play both ways and wearing down in the second half.

I never heard the final total. He had well over 200 yards and Hall had over 130 yards I believe.

I knew that if Ashland couldnt stop the rushing attack of hall and jude they couldnt pull it out, congrats Johnson Central!

Grats JC

Now, the big question. Will badcat74 be back on BGR this year, or will he do the same disappearing act like he did after Ashlands loss last year?
#17
 Thanks to Dickie Martin for doing a great job calling tonight's game. I have frequently criticized him after past JC-Ashland games but he deserves credit for a job well done. The guy who provides color commentary and stats also did a great job. They are as good a team calling high school football games as any that I have ever heard.

Congrats...JC

How many straight wins by Johnson Central do you think it will take for badcat74 to predict a close, hard fought game to avoid his annual crow feast?

Hate to disagree with you but, the lack of passing game is a huge problem for JC. It makes the game much easier to game plan for and the D can put more in the box to stop the run. HHS is not big, so if you can spread the D out a little, it could possibly open up some big holes. Highlands also has a very potent O, and when JC gets behind, they have no offense to keep them in the game or get back into the game. Love JC's run game, but think the coach is doing a disadvatage to the team by not having "any" passing game. Had a nice trip down 2 years ago and looks like the two teams will meet up agian this year. Good luck the rest of the season.

Johnson Central has run the ball very effectively against Highlands in the past, they have just run out of gas in the second half. If the reason that they drop behind late in games against deeper teams is fatigue, it doesn't matter whether they have a passing attack or not. Johnson Central's best chance of beating a deeper team is to grab an early lead and dominate the time of possession.

Johnson Central had a deep threat in 2006 and they used him very effectively. I believe that was the year that Tommy Taylor had 8 receptions for 8 touchdowns at one point in the season. Matney has always done a pretty good job of putting his teams in position to win by building on their strengths.

Just refusing to play your best athletes both ways does no good unless you have eleven more athletes who are nearly as good. I am sure that if Matney could rest Hall, Jude, Bratton, Sanor, and several others by playing them one way and have a better team, then he would be doing so.

At least Johnson Central's schedule has given his two way players plenty of time on the field to play themselves into condition on the field against great competition this season.

Matney said before the game tonight that he thinks Ashland's skill players might be as good as Bell County's but that Ashland's line was not nearly as strong. I am sure that is why Matney thought JC could run the ball at will against Ashland.

I feel the officiating was horrible I mean someone tell me the last time illegal participation was called and jc ending up in a 3rd and 45 then when they called the holding on jc on defense it took forever for them to make the call? Tomcats can't turn it over 4 times we recover the early onside kick then throw A interception plus fumbling a kick off and 2 pick in second half is awful Congrats to the eagles for capitalizing and winning this game see ya next year

How did you feel about the pass interference calls that went uncalled against Ashland? It sounded like the refs had a bad night.
#26
YES..... the refs were that bad!!! The best part of the game was when Ashland's P.A. crew played the Jeporady theme while the refs were "discussing" a call.
#27
Nothing sweeter than beating Ashland in Putnam. I laughed when hearing Coach Harts remarks regarding the officating, cause if he was at the same game I was, the calls were lopsided alright, right in his favor. The penalty yds breakdown should be interesting to say the least.

Cmon illegal participation? The calls were bad for both teams I doubt jc really holds that much then the refs throw a flag and can't make a call then why did u throw the flag? plus the offsetting personal fouls that was then like no just jc it was all bad. That said the tomcats lost cause they turned the ball over the officials were equally bad for both sides

:ref2::ref1::rules::flush: I have to disagree with your statement, officials were not equally as bad lol

I just witnessed the worst officiating ever at a game. Congrats to the Eagles on this win tonight. How many yards of penalties did we end up having anyways? I think it may of been enough to score another TD. Really glad this one didn't come down to a field goal kick !! whew!

I remember hearing we had 11 penalties for 96 yards and I believe Ashland had 6 for right around 40 something yards. I know I hear Spike talking about missed calls both ways though.
