Don't want to burst any bubbles, but these freshman and JV games mean nothing. They are like a Gridorama.

All I mean is because Harlan Co beat Bell Co doesnt mean they will in Varsity play thats all. I have seen over the years some people think this.
Its great for the kids to get to play these games though.

Harlan County Bear Cubs go rabid on the Bobcats.

It is very silly to say these games don't mean anything and that the coaches don't take them seriously.
If your freshmen team did not win a game all year, that would pose a negative impact on them during the offseason and carry over. I guarantee Bell County with the great success they have takes every game serious on all levels. This is not a gridaroma aka scrimmage, it is a regulation game between two rival schools. Neither wants to lose, I'm sure.
Someone mentioned in another thread that the head coaches don't take these games serious because they don't coach in them, well that is a ridiculous statement, I know Harlan County wants to win every game in JV and Freshmen and so do their assistants. Losing breeds losing and winning breeds championships and it starts at a young age.

Bell's freshman are not very good so I will take Harlan Co. The true test will be in 4 years I am sure the Bell boys will improve tremendously.

But no one puts as much into winning Frosh and JV games as Harlan does!
Say what you want, but if Bell goes into this game not caring whether they win or not, the Bear cubs will pounce.
CUBS WIN!!!
CUBS WIN!!!!

hahaha I bet if Bell loses tehn it dont matter about those games, but if they win they are very important.

They are important for developing but winning and losing are secondary. Sure everyone wants to win but they don't spend the week gameplaning for a "Freshman" game. I know they don't at Bell anyway.
If varsity games were played by only 1 class of kids I would agree that it is a very good barometer of success but it don't work that way. Varsity you use the strengths of different classes to win not just 1 class. In a perfect world you would start nothing but Seniors on Varsity but Hey it does not work that way.

Football is a competition, any sport is a competition. Posters on here are interested in competition and are therefore I am assuming most posters are competitive. I am a competitor, played high school basketball. I don't want to lose in a freaking spitting contest!!! We know that these games don't make a difference in what will happen when these freshmen and JV players start playing varsity.....BELIEVE ME WE KNOWWWWWWWWWW THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It does mean something to these boys right now, in THIS very moment as to if they lose or win the stinking game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are NOT saying that because our JV beat Bell's JV Tuesday night 28 to 6 that we will beat them by the same margin in 3 years. We are NOT saying that if the freshman team beats Bell by 60 points tomorrow night that the same thing will happen in 3 or 4 years.
These boys bust their arses every day, same as the varsity, and they want to win every game like any competitor does. What is the sense in playing if you don't win?????????????????
I don't even have a boy playing on the freshman or JV team and I want them to win because like I said above I am a competitor for Pete's sake!!!! Can't you get that thru your heads??????????????????? :HitWall:

There's our two biggest "secret" fans Black Bear Fans. Ol' Muney and Zaga. I knew they couldn't resist but to post on a Black Bear thread  Wish I had a dollar every time I seen them post on HC threads. Oh, I almost forgot, this post of mine is "why they pick on us Harlan fans" haha.

Out of all the stats in a JV, Freshman, and preseason games....
There is one that is more useless than all the rest.
The score

That's your own opinion and your entitled to it. Just shows what kind of competitor you are Zaga, and probably explains alot about you and your posts. I'm pretty sure up northern KY they have like freshman and JV tourneys, sounds like somebody is keeping score. But you are right, keeping score and taking games serious hasn't really helped any of those teams (Highlands, Beechwood, etc.) hh: The sooner you grab a Black Bear cap, learn how to GRR GRR, the better off you will be. Don't feel bad when you give in to the old saying "if you cant beat em, join em"

Bell dont care when they lose, jsut when they win does it matter. EXCUSES EXCUSES. every fan of football knows freshmen games matter and they are played for a reason. Why play little league, to develop, jsut like 9th grade games.

To say that bell coaches or fans don't care if they win or lose jv and freshman games is a crazy assumption. They also realize that nobody knows the freshman record of the 91/08 state championship teams. Their success was not based on their freshman record, but their development from the point on.

To say Bells fans think that read above quote from a Bell fan. if you treat it like a scrimmage then you are wrong. It does mean more than that. i say Bell doesnt need to ever play any JV or 9th grade games and see how many kids stick it out adn practice for years without wever playing. See where your thinking is then about playing these games.

I'm just saying....
These games are played to give kids in-game experience.
They are chances for coaches to move kids around in different positions to see what they can do without having to do that in a varsity game and risk a turnover or a blown coverage.
Heck, it's definitely not a bad thing to win one of these games....
but coming out of it with a better idea of what your younger players are capable of is the main idea. IMO of course

Someone said they had around 14 or so and many of them were first year players.

Really??? If they mean nothing then why when Harlan came down and played us on Labor Day was Coach Hilton on the sideline?? Why was MOST of the Varsity boys that could have went and saw their GF or friends staying to watch?? Since they "don't mean anything" then maybe for the rest of the season they should just not show up and then in 3 to 4 years see what kind of team we have!!! That is our FUTURE we should care and it means A LOT to these boys and their parents!! Another thing I do believe there is some Freshman and JV parents that sell ads and do fundraisers for the team, since they "don't mean anything" maybe they should stop helping raise money!!!
Congrats Harlan on your win, It does mean something to some of the Bell County Fans!!

do the freshmen and JV games mean something to the coaches, players and fans? yes with out a doubt.
i think some/many try to directly equate that success to varsity later on when there are so many variables to consider. there are people who believe that if they beat another team their freshman year that they will have the same outcome 3-4 years later.
