i can't wait to see Estill's schedule. they are still adding games on the KHSAA Scoreboard.
they play in the Berea Invitational, PTRC Tournament @ Jackson County, 82 Food Mart Classic here at home (i still wanna know the teams playing in that) and that's all that i have for now

We hear that about Lee Co. year in and year out. But they keep on underachieving.
Just wondering for how long; I looked it up.
The past 13 seasons going all the way back to 97/98, Lee Co. lost in the first round of districts 11 of those 13 seasons.
The other two seasons, they won the district: 05/06 & 08/09 but they got beat in the first round of regionals.
For your sake, I hope this is a good year for them. You are definitely an optimistic fan!:Thumbs:

Yes I am always on the positive side! Main reason why Lee Co. never goes as far as they should is because it seems that almost every year besides a few we never play to our full potential. We're excellent at home games but it almost seems as if our players forget how to play at away games because we always lose several games that we should always win at away games. But, hopefully that will be different this year and Coach Wright will have them overacheiving!!

I can tell you from experience why Lee Co. is so good in home games!....When u go there u play 5 on 8 including the refs. It is possibly the worst place to play in the 14th because of the refs!..

From as many games that I have been the Refs usually tend to make bad calls in favor of the opposing team rather than Lee County, so you can't use that as an excuse!

Wrong; you didn't read my previous post. Lee Co. has only been in the district finals 2 out of the last 13 years. The other 11 years, they've been beat in the first round of the district tournament.

dont say that. i was in attendence when estill got screwed up there 3 years ago on .6 seconds! And it is DEFINATLEY the worst place to play in the 14th.

Ouch!
Lee is usual a top 2 team in there district but they have been upset many times in the first round. They should be the best team in there district this year, but like you stated above, that far from guarantee's a district title.

Yes you are correct! Just like in 2006-07 when we had one of the best senior classes in a while and we lost to Owsley Co in the 1st Rd of the District and the Owls were 5-22 and hadn't won a single District game all year but there is a story behind that because there was no way would could have lost that game with the talent we had!

Owsley County has won 5 district titles in the last 11 years. To refresh your memory the Owls won the district championship in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2010. Also, they've won a total of 10 championships since the early 1980's.

Ah but Estill just entered the 56th District in the 05/06 season in which they lost to Lee County in the District Championship game, in 07/08 Estill County won the District Championship game and then again in the 08/09 season Lee County beat Estill County for the District Championship. So since Estill has been part of the 56th District it has usually been either Estill or Lee winning the District.

The district tournament goes back much farther than the last 5 years. And Lee County has won only two district titles in the last 20 years. Owsley has won 2 since 2005. From the 1980's through the mid- 2000's Owsley, Wolfe and Powell dominated the district. Owsley has won 34% of the district titles in the last 30 years, and 40% in the last 10 years.
Now, with that being said, the Owls haven't been overpowering in recent years but they did manage to win the district last year. And the next couple of years will be a rebuilding phase. I don't see Owsley as being a factor in the district for the upcoming season and maybe next year too.

Yes, I agree with you. I was just speaking from StrikeOut King's point of view where Estill has only been in the District for 5 years and 3 of the 5 years it has either been Estill or Lee in the District Championship.

Powell and Estill this year. I dont think Lee has it. I watched a 5'11" point guard from Powell score on Pittman anytime he wanted last year and he is a senior this year. Estill still has great players even with the coaching change.

Over the years statistics are only statistics. I mean when a new coach comes into a program and that program is lacking support and does not have the right track then it will possibly take 4-5 years for a coach to build a program. For instance in Lee they had a ruff time winning, but the coach at lee after 4 or 5 years had an outstanding record and won plenty of games in the 05-06 year including the all A-Region and District tourney that year. If a team is already lacking you cant judge it by its statistics from 30 years ago cause they had a totally different aspect of the game and a different coach. Estill has done well as being a contender for the distric title almost every year. Estill also has a new coach that seems to know the game well. Powell is always a hard working team and doesn't quit. Owsley always plays hard as well but losing the seniors they had will be tuff to replace. Best of luck to all teams this year.
