Paintsville 2010
#1
I'm seeing another 2nd/3rd place finish in the district, but a terrible overall record. We have two tough games to start things off. what does everyone else think?
#2
How many players are going to be on the team?
#3
Abt 30 or so.
#4
I think Pikeville will be the favorite. After that I would say 2-6 will be a toss up. I think any team in the district can win on any given night with teams 2-6. One major task will be for paintsville to get by lawrence county healthy

Going to be a bad year for P-ville!!!

I only see them winning 2 maybe 3 games depending how good Besty Lane is this year. They will probably beat phelps and south floyd but not sure who else they can beat. It is a flat out shame that they have let the program fall to this level. Changes need to be made. What changed I have no idea. But there is comething seriously wrong with the program. What was once a well respected powerfull program has completely fallen of the face of the earth. It really is a shame. The kids at that scholl deserve better.

Well there is a lot of experiance on the line. Its the backs and receiver that need the work. But the boys are working hard so we will see.

I really hate that Paintsville's program has dropped off like it has. I remember going and watching a game between them and raceland in 2000 and it was a all out battle. And I played against them when I was a senior in 2003 at Paintsville. I really enjoyed playing there it was a good enviroment.. Even if we did lose half our footballs on the building because of Pettreys extra points.

I really cant wait for the 20th to come around and the Tigers come traveling to Louisa..

It has been a slow steady drop but there is the possibility of brighter days ahead.

Please elaborate on this statement? Seems to me they are loosing kids to other schools once they reach the high school level.

Well the problem is i see a whole lot of athletes coming up and really even in the high school right now but alot of them don't/won't play football. For PHS to ever be competitave again they would really need every male athlete to play and I just don't see that happening.

Why do you think the kids are not playing? Is it their parents, Kinner, or just the kids personal decision? I have my own thoughts and I think it could be a combination of all three. But probably i lay my money on the coaching staff.

Most of it is the coaching staff. But it has alot to do with the emergence of the 1 sport athlete and at a school like paintsville that is a program killer. There are only about 120 boys in the whole school and out of that you might have 40 athletes and if 10 of them only play 1 sport and it isn't football you can see where the problem is.

i think they will not be good at all, i mean they have hardly any qb's...

Couldn't agree more the staff is the major problem. And by saying this I am also making the point that different staffs tell their kid they are better off just focusing on one sport in they want to go to college and play. Face the days of the 3 sport athlete are gone. I believe that the coaches need to encourage them to play as much as they can therefore when the season comes around that the kid excels in they won't have to work so hard to be in playing shape. I know when i was in school lineman were encouraged to compete in track and field events. Just to help them stay in shape.

Hopefully across the board!

Yup. I have heard that if this isn't a winning season there are going to be huge changes forthcoming.

Paintsviille is not going to be good until they get the younger kids up, but until then theyll struggle!!!

You can look at the more successful programs in the area to see how 3 sport athletes help. Pburg, Central and SC all have athletes competing in football, wrestling and track. I think it only helps to crosstrain.

Exactly.

Paintsville doesnt really have much talent and the BIG threat the had last year is gone so who is gonna step up and run the ball with neamih doderer gone(i know its spelled wrong nut i dont really know how to spell it)
#26
Well i went to the blue white game yesterday and the offense looked decent actually. There will be alot more throwing and Caldwell looked great at QB there were a few good receivers in the mix too. With Josh Hall really standing out to me. Who knows I might have been wrong about this year. This could be a 4-5 win season which isn't much but better than last year.

Are the Tigers still running the spread?

Yeah I'm really not sure if we have the atheletes for it but they looked decent.

I wonder with the loss to graduation if they would be able to run it with precision like they did last year??

Give Kinner and his staff a chance. His line looks big/strong and his skilled players aren't bad. Could be a better year than people expect. Good luck this season.
