16th Region Predictions
#1
Any thoughts on the 16th Region for this year?
#2
16th region volleyball should fall in this order or pretty close to it:

1. Russell - they just beat Raceland today in the BGSG and have top player in region
2. Raceland - didn't lose anyone from the best team in regular season last year
3. Ashland - Defending region champion, but graduated a lot
4. Bath Co - 9 seniors that could upset the top 3 if they all play together
5. Rowan Co - Always strong but graduated a ton of talent
6. Lewis Co. - New coach who is turning some heads
7. East Carter - Didn't graduate anyone last year, and won't graduate anyone this year. This is the team of the future!
8. Fleming Co. - Only graduated 3 seniors, but have a new coach this year
9. West Carter - Young team, but will compete with East for the district
10-14. The rest of the region you could put in a hat and draw out any of them on any given night.

Your thoughts?

Russell may have beaten Raceland today.. But I heard the Lady Ram's had one of their worst showing's of the summer... Raceland can easily take this region. They have beaten some very strong teams this summer!
#4
I think all 5 teams from the 16th did about as well as expected. Raceland has the talent to win it all, however I don't think they will win it easily. Any of the top 5 teams can beat them on any given night.
#5
Just curious Hollaback, who is Russell's top player in region?
#6
RamFan, who are the "strong teams" that Raceland has beaten this summer?
#7
Lindsey Wolfe from Russell is the player I was referring to. Although, after watching all five teams at the BGSG this weekend, Bath County has a player (don't know her name) that is probably the second best. She can pass a lot better than Wolfe and has a decent jump serve. She is shorter than Wolfe, so offensively she doesn't swing as hard. If you look at my top 5 teams, all of them played to my rankings this week in the BGSG. It's early though and I feel it will be a wide open season!!!

In the Bluegrass:

Russell- Made it to the 3rd flight-beating Prestonsburg,Raceland, and Woodford Co. Losses were to Boone Co.,Ft. Thomas, and Tates Creek.

Raceland-made it to the 4th flight-Beating Prestonsburg and losing to Russell,Scott, LaRue Co.,Bryan Station and Henderson Co.

Ashland-made it to the 4th flight-beating West Jessamine and Seneca and losing to Oldham Co.,Lone Oak, Newport Central Catholic, E-Town, and Pulaski SW.

Bath Co-made it to the 5th flight-Beating Estill Co. and Iroquois and losing to Ft. Thomas, Bryan Station,East Jessamine and Lexington Christian.

Rowan Co-made it to the 6th flight-losing to LaRue Co.,West Jessamine,Boone Co.,Madison Central twice, and Green Co.

Ashland, IMO played the toughest teams.

I'll have to get back to you on that. But some of the higher ranked schools in the state. Around rank 8 I believe.. Raceland will scrimmage Russell tomm morning at 8 am...

UKisN1,
Your info is wrong about the fri. pool. The pool had P'burg,Russell & Raceland in it.
The results were :
Raceland def. P'burg 2-0
P'burg def. Russell 2-1
Russell def. Raceland 2-0

A three way tie for the pool, the tie breaker ended up being sets won and lost(not total pts.,as most are). So Russell got first in the pool being 3-2, Raceland next at 2-2 and P'burg at 2-3.
All three teams were then re-pooled to sat. in 4 team pools and their flight was determined by their sat. finish.

I would have to disagree with Hollaback on the rankings or at least with the top three. I would have to go with the following:

1)Ashland
2)Raceland
3)Russell

Just gave results straight from website. Their bad if they are wrong.

Although it's still early in the season, I think most of the teams will be in action this Saturday at the Ashland Spike-A-Rama. This should give us a pretty good idea of where most of the 16th region teams stand going into the beginning of the season. I still think the rankings I gave are accurate. Russell and Raceland will flip flop back and forth all season I believe. Watch out for the next three though (Ashland, Bath Co., and Rowan Co.) as all 3 will upset these top two at some point this season!
#15
I just don't get how you can consider Russell and Raceland as the top two especially when Ashland is the defending 16th region champs.

No problem, trust me there were many typo's at each of the sites and on the webpage.
They were trying to keep tabs on 15 courts and two divisions(varsity & jv).

Just because you won the previous year doesn't mean you should be ranked 1st to start the season.. I don't know how much Ashland graduated exactly but I know it was alot. We will know more Saturday!
#18
You're making the assumption that I am from Ashland. If you look at the KVCA preseason poll that came out today you will notice that I am not the only one who ranks Ashland #1 in the 16th region. Your right we should know a little more on Saturday.
#19
By the way, Ashland only graduated three seniors and only two were starters. With new players moving into the district and athletes from other sports, they should be in pretty good shape by the end of the season.
#20
The KVCA preseason rankings are a JOKE! Go by my rankings instead. Here are the rankings according to the KVCA:

1. Blazer
2. Russell
3. Rowan County
4. Rose Hill Christian
5. Raceland

Unless Rose Hill got a BUNCH of transfers in, shouldn't they be worried about just competing? I may be WAY off here because I haven't seen them this summer or heard anything about them. Also, even though Ashland only graduated 2 starters last year, one of those starters was the regional player of the year! That's makes a difference. Raceland didn't graduate any starters, Russell still has the best hitter in the region, Bath County has 9 seniors, and Rowan looked solid at the BGSG. All four of these teams will be in the mix and will be a tough challenge for Blazer. We shall see, and will get a much better idea of how they fall on Saturday though!
#21
I just got back from the spike a Rama, well the first 2 rounds. Greenup has a new coach, but looked young. Speakin of young, East's young talent will be solid in a few years. Fairview will battle for 2nd in their district. Rose hill has a new team and coach. They play hard though. Bath co was the biggest surprise. They beat mason and rose hill handilly and only lost to Russel by 3. They might be the team to watch in the region. If Russel can find a setter, they will give raceland fits. I didn't say for the rest so update me if you go.
#22
Lewis Co. didn't seem to have much. Rowan wasn't all that impressive either. Ashland and Raceland both appeared to be pretty strong. Can't wait to see those two play each other! I didn't get to see Russell play but had heard that they didn't look very strong and was in desperate need of a setter.
#23
Ashland played in the annual Prestonsburg Food City Summer Slam over the weekend and tied for 3rd out of 20 teams! Good job girls! You looked awesome! Keep up the good work!
