Goodell considering Benson case

Cedric Benson's attorney described Thursday's meeting between the Bengals running back and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as productive

Benson was called into the league office due to his arrest last month on assault charges in Austin, Texas, stemming from an altercation in a bar on May 30.

"The commissioner and Cedric had a frank and productive discussion regarding the benefits of playing in the NFL, as well as the price to be paid to enjoy those benefits," attorney David Cornwell said in an e-mail. "Cedric is his best advocate, and I believe the commissioner was pleased with their discussion."

The league is evaluating the case and there is no timetable for a decision on whether Benson would be suspended for a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.
