Whats happened to Russell? Seems like it hasn't been that long ago that Russell seemed to beat Ashland every time?
On paper, Ashland doesn't seem to have that much more talent than Russell?

A lot of Ashland's players have played a lot of AAU ball at a competitive level. You just can't overstate how much it means to play a lot of basketball outside of the grade school and middle school ranks. Some of Ashland's players have been playing AAU since the 3rd or 4th grade. That adds a lot of games to their credit, possibly hundreds more than players that don't get outside the school system sports. Add to that, every game they play in is at a tournament where they take no prisoners and the pressure is as extreme as the other team can make it. Competing at AAU nationals in Virginia or Florida is an amazing challenge that hones skills matures players early.

I know Russell has guys that played AAU but don't know how serious they were or how much they played and at what level. Just a guess as to some of it.

Ashland is getting more settled with their basketball system too, while Russell is in their second year under a new coach. They are making progress.
