That's because I'm not on the court anymore. Ha. Kidding. Seriously though, basketball just isn't as big as football anymore. And until P-burg gets good on the hardwood, less and less people are going to show up. Would you want to go watch a team who has played half their season and still yet to win a game?

I haven't even been to a game yet. Plan on going tomorrow at the Expo Center though.

But your right, Prestonsburg is a football school and always has been. We've had teams in the past capable of winning region, but always come away disappointed.

Back in the day, he had no problem at all playing football players...why now? He doesn't have much of a relationship with the DeRossetts or Athletic Director Butcher, IIRC. Maybe this has something to do with his decision to not play football players? Or maybe he is the first coach to realize that some of these football players just aren't good basketball players? Now, I'm not saying I believe this because honestly, I haven't seen a P-burg basketball game in quite some time so I have no clue how good any of these kids are, but I know Pack isn't about the "politics" that go on with playing certain players. Maybe he's giving some folks a dose of reality by actually playing players based on skills instead of their parents? But at this point in the season, and seeing the record of this team, I'd pull players from the girls squad if I felt they could put the ball in the basket.

It has nothing to do with playing football players. He is playing them, he is just harassing them off the court. It has nothing to do with playing time at all . IM me if you would like some details.

Looks like a great opportunity missed IMO. Jack Pack could have taken the positive of the great football season they had and rolled that right into basketball but instead chose to take a negative approach. He has truely taken something away from some of these kids they will never get back. I feel really sorry for the kids in that situation. The Burchette kid is a great athlete and a fine young man. I think P-burg needs to really take a hard look at what the coach has done this year and make a decision on his future.

I think it is a shame that there are kids not playing a sport they love! But the way I see it, if you truly love the sport...nobody could keep you from it. The football and basketball coaches need to support each other. Childish behavior by adults will not benefit anyone.

The only two problems I have with Coach Pack are the one's I mentioned: the heckling of his players about participating in football (which I talked about enough in my previous post) and participating in the big-named tournaments (i.e. the Republic Bank Classic). Other than that, I really like him as a basketball coach. Pack led Prestonsburg to a district title last season and the semi-finals of the regional tournament. I watched that team quite a bit last season and I enjoyed watching that full-court, in-your-face defense (I'm not sure they play that way this year because I haven't even seen them play this season). Last year's team was scrappy and didn't care to lay on the floor and give it all they had.

We all knew it would be a rebuilding year this year, so why attend two tournaments that your team is absolutely not ready for? Even last season Prestonsburg played in a tournament at Montgomery County and had to face the #1 team in the state at that time (Scott County). I never understood Pack's philosophy on that. This year's team could have won a few games already if they had been playing some legit competition from this area. Why not schedule a Jenkins or a Red Bird game here and there (no disrespect to those teams)? Games like that would only help a team like this year's Prestonsburg squad gain confidence and have fun playing basketball. You can't have fun when you're getting smacked in the mouth every night by 30-40 points.

Pack has what it takes to be a good coach and has proven it in the past, but right now he is going about it completely the wrong way. I don't mind that he has a problem with this school being a "football first" school. I sort of admire that actually because it shows me his love for the game. The problem is, he has made it worse by going about things the wrong route. If you're coaching basketball at a football school the first thing you have to do is accept the situation for what it is. If players that are playing basketball for you want to get involved/already are involved in football, do not in any way discourage them from playing. Encourage them if anything. You have to think about the positives that come from a basketball player playing football: strength and muscle from the weight room, toughness from competing in games, and a stronger desire to compete in what their doing. You have to use those attributes to your advantage as a coach. Things like that are what Coach Pack needs to do in order to be successful again at Prestonsburg. Because right now, football is as big as it's ever been there.

I can only hope & pray that the " Jack Pack Situation " is RESOLVED b4 the Upcoming baseball Season Starts!!!!! The things that have been done & said inside the halls of of Prestonsburg High are @ the the least, RIDICULOUS, if not, Unlawful!!!!
It is obvious that there is a problem with the ongoing Basketball Season regardless of the BIG Win last night ! I hate to even THINK of what may happen once Baseball gets into gear. Jack Pack may Love to win but, how can ANY1 get away with some of the tactics that he has resorted to this year ???? I won't give details hear. I can tell tell that many of you ALREADY are informed of what has happened. I am truly disgusted & so so sorry for those Seniors that Are playing basketball this year !!! They deserve So Much More !

It would be a shame if Tyler Hall & Josh Blackburn didn't get to play baseball, because they didn't play basketball.
