Top 10 teams of the Decade
#1
Who where the top 10 teams of the last decade (00-09)?
#2
I think you would have to throw in the 2001 Shelby Valley team ( record 27-3)
#3
Mountain teams or state wide?

If we're talking statewide, no way that team was top 10 this decade. In the mountains, maybe, but not statewide. They lost to Bourbon Co (13-13) and Clark Co (13-13) that year and didn't even make it out of the region.

What year was it when South Laurel won it was 03 or 04. I really can't remember but they were a good team.

My top 10 teams of the decade are all past state champions:

1. 2007 Scott Co (34-2)
Only team to beat USA Today #1 Huntington High, WV which had both Patrick Patterson and OJ Mayo.

2. 2003 Mason Co (35-2)
Led by future Tennessee star, Chris Lofton.

3. 2004 Warren Central (29-7)
Majority of their losses came at the beginning of the year but once they got healthy, they rolled the rest of the season.

4. 2009 Holmes (36-2)
Finished the season ranked as high as #17 in several national polls. Arguably the best team to ever come through Northern Kentucky, led by 2 current Mr. Basketball candidates Ricardo Johnson and Elijah Pittman.

5. 2002 Lexcath (33-2)
Hard to believe the sophomore class of this team only made one state tournament. They were absolutely loaded.

6. 2008 Mason Co (34-3)
Led by Mr. Basketball and current UK Wildcat, Darius Miller.

7. 2006 Jeffersontown (32-4)
Led by Mr. Basketball and Cincinnati signee, Domonic Tilford.

8. 2000 Elizabethtown (30-5)
Very underrated group but they were extremely talented.

9. 2005 South Laurel (32-4)
Very deep group that produced future Notre Dame commit, Ty Profitt.

10. 2001 Lafayette (25-11)

Other teams that could make an argument:

2007 Ballard- finished the season 34-2 with both losses coming to eventual state champion, Scott Co. Ballard was led by future Mississippi St star, Quanny Beckham.

2009 Scott Co- Only two in state losses came to eventual state champion, Holmes and to Lexcath in the region semi's without their senior leader and best player, Richie Phares.

2004 Mason co (33-3)- Lost in the state championship to my #2 team of the decade, Warren Central. This was Lofton's senior year.

List looks good.

Nice list. I hate it for '07 Ballard. I was rooting so hard for them in the championship to beat SCP and then they just went COLD with about 4 minutes left. Warren Central was my FAVORTIE team of the decade on this list to watch- the athleticism of Lonnell Dewalt was crazy. He could have played big-time college basketball. Also, Tilford went to South Alabama.

Great list, I do think that the 2004 Mason County team deserves to be in the top 10. They were better IMO than the 2008 Royals that won the champsionship.
