While this wasn’t a Beechwood football team that competed with the big boys on its schedule like so many over the almost past two decades have, it’s still a Tiger team with sharp claws when it comes to facing Class A foes.

Beechwood rolled to its 25th straight Class A win and moved within three wins of its third straight Class A state title with an easy 58-0 win over Eminence in a second-round playoff game on Friday night in Ft. Mitchell.
Beechwood (8-4), which whipped Trimble County in last week’s opening round, 54-0, has now rolled past its seven Class A foes this year by a combined score of 339-24 or an average of 48-3.
“This was just a year where we didn’t match up against some of bigger schools on our schedule, but I think playing those teams made us better,” said Beechwood coach Noel Rash. “We do have a lot of confidence when we play against Class A teams, but now it’s going to get a whole lot tougher.”
That’s because Beechwood advances to play Bellevue, which gave Beechwood its toughest Class A game of the season before falling, 20-8, in a mud bowl at Bellevue on Oct. 23. Bellevue advanced with a 29-26 win at Frankfort on Friday night. The playoff rematch will occur on Beechwood’s field-turf surface.
“I honestly can’t tell you how much of a difference the field will make,” said Rash. “I just know that Bellevue’s really good and (running back Ricky) Buckler is really good and really fast – even in the mud.”
Beechwood made quick work of Eminence, jumping out to a 20-0 lead through one quarter and 44-0 at halftime. The Tigers outgained Eminence 179-5 in the first quarter and 294-34 in the first half before Rash emptied his bench to start the second half. The game was played with a running clock over the final 20 minutes of game action afte Beechwood scored touchdown a little over three minutes into the second half.
Senior quarterback Matt Rigdon was sharp for the second straight week. After passing for 138 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 100 more and a score in the first half against Trimble County, in which the Tigers built a 48-0 lead, Rigdon accounted for all six first-half Beechwood touchdowns against Eminence, passing for four – to four different receivers – and rushing for the other two. He completed 8-of-12 passes for 142 yards and rushed six times for a team-high 84 yards.
