I found this VERY touching that the community has pulled together for this young man!!! Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!!!
A Letcher County teenager is fighting for his life tonight at a Cincinnati[Image: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif] hospital. Fifteen-year-old Travis Morton, a sophomore at Letcher County Central High School, was recently diagnosed with stage four brain and spinal cancer. People from his hometown of whitesburg have come together to help him.
Travis Morton's family says he's handling this diagnosis well. It's the second time he's had cancer. His uncle, Roland Brown, says, "Instead of laying down, he was trying to console all of us, tell us that, 'Hey, I'm going to beat this again. I'll beat it again, don't worry about it.'"

While Travis is in Cincinnati, folks in Letcher County are coming together to support him. General Manager and Programming Director Kevin Day says, "I felt compelled that, you know, we need to give this a shot, because I know the people of Letcher County are very giving and they would come through for us. And boy, they did, it was huge."
"As of last count, it was a little over $16,000 pledged from the community," Brown says.
One of Travis's teachers at Letcher County Central, Travis Fields, stopped by the station to make a pledge. "Travis is the kind who deserves the opportunity to live, because he appreciates life," Fields says.
Travis's uncle says the outpouring of the community is overwhelming, and monetary donations help tremendously, but even more importantly, "What we as a family need more than anything is support...prayers," he says, "If you see us out, just a pat on the back--just to know people are thinking about you."
There will be a benefit for Travis and his family at Campbell's Branch Community Center in Letcher County Saturday at 1:00.

In the grand scheme of things, sports or politics are merely a throwaway topic when talking about the topic of life. Kids like this, fighting for their life every single day, not taking a minute for granted. May God be with this young man, and he'll be in my prayers constantly.
