No. 4 Conner (5-0) at No. 3 Simon Kenton (3-1)
WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. today at Simon Kenton H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: The game features two of the most versatile quarterbacks in Northern Kentucky - Conner senior Nick West and Simon Kenton junior Chad Lawrence. Both can throw the ball and both are a threat to tuck it and run. More importantly, both make good decisions. Don't be surprised if one or both call audibles that change the game.
BOTTOM LINE: The teams split two very competitive games last year. The Pioneers might have a slight edge, but expect another classic.
No. 8 Campbell Co. (2-2) at No. 5 Boone Co. (1-3)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Boone County H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Boone County RB Charles Quainoo, who led the state in rushing last regular season, has yet to have a breakout game against the Rebels' tough early season schedule. Last season the Camels held Quainoo to 123 yards on 33 carries; they'll need a similar run-stopping performance tonight.
BOTTOM LINE: Boone County's three-game losing streak probably will end tonight.
Dayton (0-4) at Beechwood (1-3)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Beechwood H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Beechwood always has been able to run the ball against small-school competition. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they've played mostly large schools this season. Expect their offensive line to control the tempo of this game and spring RB Joe Colosimo for a few big plays.
BOTTOM LINE: Now that it's into the 1A portion of its schedule, Beechwood will begin to look more like its dominant self.
No. 5 Dixie Heights (2-3) at Scott (1-3)
WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. today at Scott H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: It would be awfully difficult to find a player who has done as much for his team as Scott QB Zach Sowder. The senior has rushed 128 times for 840 yards and eight TDs. He's thrown for 197 yards and two scores. He's kicked 14 extra points; he's made 31 tackles and caught one pass.
BOTTOM LINE: Dixie Heights' three straight losses have come to the teams ranked second, third and fourth in the coaches' poll. The Colonels should get back on track with a district win.
No. 10 Holy Cross (2-2) at Bishop Ready (3-0)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today; 2800 Walker Road, Hilliard, Ohio
WHAT TO WATCH: Holy Cross senior QB Markel Walker is known primarily as a runner, but he has plenty of throwing targets. Four Indians have receiving TDs this season; three have at least 100 yards receiving. Walker's main options are Jordan Norris, Eric Walker, Andy Roenker and Robert Ziegler.
BOTTOM LINE: Bishop Ready is a fairly strong Division V program. It's a good road test, but a passable one.
Lloyd (2-2) at Montgomery County (2-2)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Montgomery County H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Lloyd QB Dylan McGuire is coming off his best performance of the season. In last week's win vs. Cooper, he had 276 yards of total offense. He threw for a TD, ran for another and was 17 of 25 passing without an interception.
BOTTOM LINE: Lloyd has won two in a row. A win at Montgomery County would be even more impressive.
Estill County (1-3) at Newport (2-2)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Newport H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Through the first three games of the season, Estill County had attempted just three passes. Newport, however, isn't afraid to sling it around. WR Sean Gross (12 catches, 221 yards, five touchdowns) has turned into one of the most potent pass-catchers in Northern Kentucky.
BOTTOM LINE: Estill County is coming off a narrow loss to Somerset, but was blown out by Bourbon County. Depending on which Estill team shows up, this could go a number of ways.
No. 9 Holmes (4-0) at Pendleton County (3-1)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Pendleton County H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: The Holmes defense, led by DL Regal Lowe and LB Tommy Courtney, has allowed just 15 first-half points all season. If the Wildcats don't get off to a decent start, they'll have to play catch-up against the Bulldogs' offense, which is averaging 35 points a game.
BOTTOM LINE: Holmes should win to stay atop its 4A district.
St. Xavier (4-0) at No. 1 Highlands (5-0)
WHEN/WHERE: 6:30 p.m. today at Highlands H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: St. X senior DL Nigel Muhammad showed his versatility in last week's victory over Trinity when he ran for a touchdown. His bigger role tonight will be as a pass rusher. The Bombers have athletes who should be able to hurry Bluebirds QB Will Bardo and keep him from escaping the pocket.
BOTTOM LINE: The Bombers, ranked No. 2 in the Enquirer city coaches' poll, are a substantial favorite.
Walton-Verona (1-3) at Bellevue (2-2)
WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. today; Gilligan Stadium, Bellevue
WHAT TO WATCH: Through the Tigers' first four games - all against larger schools - senior RB Ricky Buckler is averaging 186 yards a game. Against Class 1A schools, he'll probably pick it up another notch.
BOTTOM LINE: Walton-Verona enters the program's first district game as a pretty big underdog.
Cooper (2-2) at No. 2 Ryle (3-1)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Ryle H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Cooper's offense is based on the running attack, but the Jaguars will pass 10 to 15 times a game. If they fall behind and have to throw more often, they must account for Ryle defensive backs Zach Senvisky (45 tackles) and Logan Carney (four interceptions).
BOTTOM LINE: Cooper has made great strides in its second year of existence. But the Jaguars are still quite a bit behind Ryle in the evolution of their respective football programs.
NewCath (1-4) at No. 7 CovCath (2-3)
WHEN/WHERE: 1 p.m. Saturday at CovCath H.S.
WHAT TO WATCH: Covington Catholic WR Alex Connelly has picked up the slack for the injured Michael Robinson. Connelly already has 32 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns. Against a smallish NewCath secondary, the 6-4 junior could make for a pretty big mismatch.
BOTTOM LINE: CovCath, which scored 35, 33 and 43 points the last three weeks, has too much firepower for NewCath.
Bishop Brossart (3-1) at Ludlow (2-2)
WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. Monday; Rigney Stadium, Ludlow
WHAT TO WATCH: Ludlow RB Jacob Ashcraft has emerged as the team's top offensive threat. In the past two games - both wins - he's carried 50 times for 344 yards and two TDs.
BOTTOM LINE: This game was moved to Monday after Brossart closed school due to an H1N1 flu outbreak. If the Mustangs are healthy, they have a good chance of picking up their first district victory in program history.

Boyle County and Danville have their annual showdown tonight at Admiral Stadium. Danville is way down this year but it will still be a hard hitting game in a great atmosphere. "Great American Rivals" featured this game the past two seasons. Not sure if they are this year.
