GM makes bid to sell on eBay
#1
General Motors Co. is testing a new program with e-commerce operator eBay Inc. that will let consumers in California buy GM vehicles on the Internet and haggle over the price, the first step in what could be a wider strategy to sell more vehicles online as the automaker scales back its bricks-and-mortar showrooms.

GM and eBay set up a site at gm. ebay.comthat will offer potential buyers the opportunity to browse the product lineups of roughly 225 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Pontiac dealers in the state, ask questions and arrange financing and payment, the companies said yesterday. The initiative marks a break from the way automakers and their dealers have traditionally sold vehicles, namely by spending several hours with customers in showrooms and back offices finalizing a transaction. Selling more vehicles online will allow GM to boost revenue through another retail channel as it closes underperforming dealerships in Canada and the United States. The initiative will start today and could be expanded nationally after the California trial runs its course, GM spokesman John McDonald said. There are no plans for a Canadian-based online trial, he said.

I don't get what you are saying?

GM still isn't seliiing cars directly to the public, and a ton of dealers (Ford, GM, etc.) put the new and used cars on Ebay and Autotrader with Buy It Now, or the lowest price they want and go from there.......

im pretty sure thats what this is about, letting consumers bid on gm cars on ebay, sold directly from gm, not an authorized dealer
