Rocks Top Waggener in District Opener
Sewell Posts Season High 27 Points
LOUISVILLE, Ky. âTrinity senior Josh Sewell scored 19 of his game high 27 points in the first half as Trinity posted a 77-66 win over Waggener in the teamâs district opener.
It marked the 25th win of Szaboâs career in district games. Szabo improved to 9-1 against Waggener in his career.
Sewell hit 9-of-12 shots from the field in the first half and had eight rebounds. He finished 11-of-15 from the field.
The Shamrocks pounded the Wildcats on the rebounds in the first half, holding a 22-4 advantage as the Wildcats amassed just one defensive rebound in the first half.
Trinity took control in the first half using runs of 12-0 and 10-0 in the first half. The 12-0 run in the first quarter saw Sewell score six points. The 10-0 run was jumpstarted at the end of the first quarter when Andrew Perito scored five straight points to end the quarter including a steal, basket and free throw in the final 20 second of the period.
The Shamrocks led 42-28 at halftime.
The Shamrocks and Wildcats played a physical battle in the early third quarter before a 12-0 run late in the third quarter by the Shamrocks pushed Trinity ahead 62-38.
Trinity returns home on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 against Ballard.

⢠Senior Dylan Kupper made his season debut in the second quarter after joining the team from football.
⢠Sewellâs 27 points was a season high. It was also the second game in a row he reached the 20-point plateau.

Is the freshman receiver playing basketball for the Rocks?

James Quick did not play in tonight's game. He just joined the team in the last couple of days and only has a couple practices to his credit due to the end of the football season being just six days ago. Expect his debut sometime during the holiday tournament season.
