I have never been squirrel hunting but my father gave me his 410 shotgun and indicated that it was a good gun for this type of hunting. Is this true? Do you guys hunt them for the meat or just the sport?

^ I would go hunting with my dad with the 410 he gave me (I went because my mother didn't want him going alone). He'd break of one way, I'd go the other. I'd find a tree, lean my gun against it, make myself comfortable and get the remainder of my sleep. When I woke up it was daylight, and I'd see the squirrels playing with my shoe strings, because they knew it was the safest location in the woods. After I shewed them away, I'd get the gun, fire it in the air. I'd hear my dad 1/2 mile away yell "Did ya get'em". And my response would be "I just missed'em". Which would bring the two of us back together and we would head home after a wonderful day of father/son hunting.
Years afterwards, I told him about this, and he said he knew after about the third time hunting together, that there was no way I could miss everytime. But he just kept it to himself and enjoyed the experience! Good times.
Now, the 410 sits in it's case under the bed just waiting to shoot an intruder!

Squirrels must have evolved over the years. They are mean as hell now. And don't enjoy no ones company. With or without a gun.

^ They were safe, no need to be mean to someone who did not come to kill them for ALL of the eating meat on their bodies, which seems like an oxymoron!

Anyone know the regs on hunting squirrel with a rifle? lol, only have a new AR I bought, and I don't want to have to borrow my grandpa's 16-gauge that I love. He's just a dick when it comes to loaning things these days.
I don't see why it'd be a problem, the round is the same size of a .22, it's just traveling way faster.
