Central 53 - Graves County 51 (1st Round Sweet 16)
#1
Central blew a 13-point halftime lead and fell behind by seven points, but the Yellowjackets pulled out a 53-51 victory over Graves County Wednesday night in Rupp Arena.

Central’s Alex Morrison’s rebound basket gave his team a 53-51 lead with 22 seconds left. Teammate Desmond Brown then came up with a steal. Graves County got one more chance when Tevin Hill stole the ball back with 4 seconds left, but his off-balance three-pointer at the buzzer wasn’t close and Central escaped.

Ridge Wilson, an all-state football player for the 3A state champ Jackets, led the winners with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Morrison had 11 points, and Tim Patterson, another football star, had 5 points and 10 rebounds. Central shot 33% and had 17 turnovers.

Graves County was led by Hill’s 18 points and 5 rebounds. Cass McAlpin had 8 points and 6 rebounds. The Eagles had 22 turnovers and shot 42%.

Central, which began the season 0-8, improved to 17-14 and advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1978.

The 1st half of this game was horrible. Graves cam out in the 2nd half ready to play and handed it to Central. #20 for Graves county is an outstanding player, if it wasnt for him in the 2nd half, Graves would have got beaten badly. I thought he was going to hit that last second 3 after he stole it with 3.4 seconds left in the game. The second half was great to watch. # 20 really impressed me from Graves county.

Congrats Central. When was the last time a team won football state title and was in the basketball finals or won it the same year?
