Biggest Upsets in the 14th Regional Tornament History
#1
With tournament time around the corner, thought we could go back and talk of some of the biggest upsets or just the greatest games that you think have ever been played in the 14th Regional Tournament? We can also include games from any of the District Tournaments throughout the 14th Region as well. Give names of players, stats, scores, or just great plays you remember, maybe a buzzer beater to win the big game!!

One that comes too mind is Knott Co. Defeating Breathitt Co. Breathitt County had defeated Knott two time during the season i am thinking it was back in 1980/ something close to that,Breathitt had maybe 1 loss all year, and had won like 30 games that season they had Tim Lovely,Dwight Dunn can't remember all players even, but we fans just knew we was going to state, but it didnt happen ,thats when i said its hard too beat a team 3 times during the season, and of course we didnt play as we usually play and it was on KCC home floor,KCC just beat Breathitt Co,but no doubt we had a shot if we win this game of winning the state cause a team from Northern Ky won it,and they had kid that could shoot the ball really well that came to UK his name was Troy McCkinny i believe was his name, blonde headed kid never did do much at UK but he could shoot, thats one game i will never forget and have not to this day a good team that should have won didn't..

That was in 1981... Brerathitt had beaten KCC by 26 in District Finals the week before.... David Jeff Stamper hit a baseline jumper at Buzzer to give KCC the upset win....and you're right Troy McKinley led Simom Kenton to State title... They beat KCC by 2 in opening round of State Tournament!

Since the 54th is back at Leslie this year, that brings a great game to mind a few years back the last time it was their. Daniel Combs from PCC went the length of the floor and hit a running one hander at the buzzer to send the Hazard Bulldogs home. Was a great game and with the draw coming up today at Leslie again, the Dawgs and Dores could be playing again to see who goes to the region.

I think it could be Hazard over Dilce Combs in the 1993 District Tournament at Hazard's Memorial Gym. Dilce Combs had just won the All "A" State title earlier in the season and were sure to make a deep run into the Regional Tournament, anyone remember this game? Dilce Combs might have even been the favor to win the 14th Region besides M.C. Napier and Knott Co. Central.

The Buckhorn game in 07 wasn't just a win, that was a 31 point thrashing of Perry at their own house. That was embarrassing! If Buckhorn gets hot again, which is definitely possible with the players they have this year, Hazard better be careful not to over look them in the district at Leslie this year.

This loss was depressing. Perry was playing better than anyone in the region come March and was in alot of peoples eyes the favorite to win region. Instead, they got embaressed on there home court to little brother by 33 points. I have never seen a Perry Central team play that bad...that was just a horrible night.

During the 1985-86 season, the District was to be held at Buckhorn and Coach John Paul Amis elected to stage the District at Leslie Co. even though Leslie Co. was favored to win the region. Wouldn't you know it that Buckhorn drew Leslie Co. in the first round!! Buckhorn had a team with no seniors and one junior. So low and behold the Buckhorn Wildcats knocked off Leslie Co. and about beat Hazard in the District finals. This was a great District tournament, at least one that I remember!! Trying to remember some names, but I am having trouble!!
