If this is the case he will be coaching against his Dad this year. Not to mention they will be in the same district. Interesting.

If he is anything like his Dad North Laurel is in for a great experience.

Well Congratulations to him! Best of luck at North Laurel. I'm sure his dad is proud to see his son get a head coaching job. This will make for some interesting table conversation at the Larkey household! Big Grin I wonder how many father and sons have coached against each other in Kentucky?

Good luck to the new coach.

I made the Drive from Buckeye Lake to catch the bowl game that North plays in and met some great people and had a great time.

Hmmm. Good luck Coach and the Jags. Don't think many people expected that move.

I would have thought they would have went after someone of a higher quality coach. None the less, good luck North with your program.

I find it hilarious that every board I've seen Bell County fans question this hire and have something to say that isn't all the way positive. Wouldn't have even mentioned it if it wasn't so obvious. I look forward to the LCC/NL matchup now.

I don't think anyone was negative, just wondering why they went in that direction after the talk was they wanted someone with HC experience?

You should talk to some of the folk in Laurel Co. and see how they feel. They are more than questioning it. They wanted a proven coach. Larkey maybe a fine Head Coach but they will not know. NL need a shot in the arm to get them going. Not sure hiring an un-experienced HC will do what they hoped? Maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell.

Good Luck NL with your new coach.

If it is Chris, then I wish him all the best, though he will be sorely missed at Harlan County. He was a huge asset to the Bears, and any school would be lucky to have him as head coach in my opinion!

North Laurel names Chris Larkey their new head Coach . Chris is the Son of Tom Larkey, who is the coach of the Harlan Black Bears!

Good Luck Chris!

If he is anything like his old man he will be a darn good coach

I just hope people give him a chance if they are already doubting. I'm sure he's been around enough football to understand how a programs ran. Don't get me wrong, it is a lot more responsibility than an assistant, but, I think he'll be fine as long as he gets the support he needs.

Wayne Mills got his start as a HC at Knox Central his first job, worked out pretty good.
Ben Howard at Letcher is considerd a strong coach in the future and he is just an assistant, everybody had to be an assisntat at some point.
I'd say if he has had 20 years of coaching at Rock and with his dad, then he is more than capable, assistnats do more than walk the sideline espcially if your the coachs son, I'd say this is a great hire and it will make the district even more competetive.
