I am all for playing hard and making the other team work, But beating a team 100-0 is ridiculous. A cowardly move by what has to be a JERK of a coach. Call off the Dogs, PAL!!!

This REALLY ticks me off. WHY ON EARTH would anyone ever want to beat a team 100-0? Do you really not care about other peoples feelings? I just cant get over this 100-0! This coach is obviously doesnt need to be coaching at that level. The guy must be a real prick.

High school apologizes for 100-0 blowout

http://www.kentucky.com/808/story/668855.html

By Jeff Carlton - Associated Press DALLAS — A high school girls basketball team that beat an opponent 100-0 has a case of blowout remorse.

The winning school now says it wants to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

"It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened," the head of the school said Thursday on The Covenant School's Web site. He added that Covenant has made "a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss."

Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, defeated Dallas Academy 100-0 last week. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make three-pointers — even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

"I think the bad judgment was in the full-court press and the three-point shots," said Renee Peloza, whose daughter plays for Dallas Academy. "At some point, they should have backed off."

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons.

There is no mercy rule in girls basketball that shortens the game or permits the clock to continue running when scores become lopsided. There is, however, "a golden rule" that should have applied in this contest, said Edd Burleson, the director of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. Both schools are members of this association, which oversees private school sports in Texas.

Covenant head of school Kyle Queal said school officials met with Dallas Academy officials to apologize and praised the Dallas Academy players for "strength, composure and fortitude in a game in which they clearly emerged the winner."

Covenant School to forfeit 100-0 win over Dallas Academy

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/...54d45.html

Officials from The Covenant School visited Dallas Academy on Thursday morning to apologize for their girls basketball team's "victory without honor" in last week's 100-0 game.

Dallas Academy players and coach look back on the game and talk about never quitting and playing for more than the final score.

Covenant, located in Dallas, also e-mailed the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools to declare its desire to forfeit the District 3-2A game.

Edd Burleson, the TAPPS director who oversees 236-member high schools, said there is no formal procedure when a school wants to overturn one of its victories.

"If they want to forfeit, it's forfeited," he said.

Dallas Academy athletic director Jeremy Civello said his school accepted the "heartfelt" apology delivered by Covenant's head of school, Kyle Queal, and athletic director Brice Helton.

Civello said the girls' team, which hasn't won a game in his four years there, doesn't want to be credited with a victory it didn't earn on the court...............

So much to say about this. Considering the team, the other coach should have had his youngest players in there the entire game. They didn't even have to run a defense, pass a lot before any shot during offense, work on setting up your plays. It was classless to score 100 to 0. Also, you have to really give it up for the school to continue to support their basketball program, the coach to be there, and the girls to continue to play during the season and their hearts out even being down by this much. What is done is done and I don't think that a forfeit is the right way to apologize, it should have been handled differently while the game was going on. I can only imagine how excited their faces would have been had they even started scoring some points during that game.

what a complete loser that coach is..

this is pitaful to say the least, absolutley makes me sick. I love how Covenants coach thinks a forefit makes it all better. IMO he feels no remorse he is just trying to find some way to releave the negative press he has placed upon him self and the program. The other thing I think is shameful is that the GIRLS of Covenant didnt do something about it themselves that is the even more sad part about all of this. I would love to have 10 mintues in a room with Covenants coach and team just to give them a piece of my mind. PATHETIC. However, it is no diffrent then some schools around here beating teams like Riverside by 70 with or without their starters!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that last part of Slama's post too and completely agree as well Stardust. There is a sportmanship code that coaches and players alike need to know. I don't think that scores are run up intentionally but last string players need to be put in when games are going that way. Let the players that never get off the bench get some experience in these games, how else will you know what they are capable of? Such a great learning experience for young players. I have saw one instance where a team scored no points and the other team let them take some wide open shots, they shot foul shots, had fast breaks, everything, and just could not get them to drop.

WOW!

the coach evidently has no respect for himself or anybody else if he can beat a team that bad and not do anything about it.
i also heard that the coach had been fired. which i totally agree with since winning is not the most important issue in this case it is teaching a group of girls life lessons that they can use for the rest of their lives.

The coach was pretty arrogant after the fact, I can imagine that will help in his job search
