Berea's only loss came to Estill 52-12. Powell has played a far better schedule playing Breathitt, Harlan Central and Bath. I will go out on a limb and give Powell the edge in this one due to a tougher district schedule. Head to head Powell played Estill better than Berea as well though neither faired well.
Playing Harlan central and Breathitt and a decent Bath co. team will have Powell ready to beat a 7-1 Berea who has really played to a much lower competition level. A weak schedule will come back and "bite" you and an improved Powell co. team's schedule they have played in their district will be the deciding factor in this one. Breathitt was ANOTHER LEVEL but Berea is not.

I gotta go with Powell

Playing tougher District foes probably will help defeat Berea. But, Powell won't see much progress unless the non- district schedule improves. Playing teams like Betsy Layne, Jackson Co., Lewis Co. doesn't help you get any better, IMO. You measure your progress by how well you compete with the good programs, not how bad you can beat up on these weak teams.

Powell will take this game 36--7. This is the most important game in these seniors life. The chance to be the first team with a winning season in powell county history. the whole team will come out hitting hard berea will not be able to stop it.

I will go with Powell in this one. Berea has played a pretty weak schedule and Powell has battled hard against some really good teams, so I see them coming out on top. If they are able to win this game it will be the first winning season in Powell County football history. They have only had a football program since 1990 and have had two 5-5 teams, but no winning team. Good luck Pirates!

I think Powell may win this game but.............tough schedule?Where did you get that?Except for their district they played nobody.I checked the stats for a Powell player last week before our game against them to show him why we would win big and here is the fact(as of last week)The teams the Powell had BEATEN had a COMBINED 4 wins between them all. That is not a tough schedule.

powell county has been a team that has greatly improved this year. they have worked hard and have done well against teams such as harlan and estill. no they did not do well against breathitt but no one is perfect. however, this team deserves the respect they have earned. they are young, talented and determined.
powell wins big against berea..go pirates and best of luck to the departing senior pirates

I wouldnt consider Powell a young team. They lose 9 players that start. 7 of them start on both sides of the ball.
Qb- Billy Rice
Wr/Db- David Crowe
Wr/Db-Jared Barron
OT-Jordan Lopez
OG-Scotty Newsome
C-Dylan Sexton
TE/LB-Tyler Perkins
Db-Aaron Elkins
NG-AJ Jones
Big spots to fill IMO!

Brandon Trent DE/LB/G
Derek Taulbee LB/RB
Frank Spencer NG/C/T/G
Jacob Conner DT/C/T
Dylan Davis DT/T
Ryan Fraley DT/T
You get the point. PLUS, we have a couple of solid freshman coming up.
Mark O'shea OL/DL
Josh Spencer OL/DL
The main pos. to fill will be QB. Hale is coming along fine but is probably better suited for WR.
A lot of these guys play some now. I didn't even mention our skills guys.
We have a bunch of players thet will fill right in. They are going to get stronger and faster. We will be fine.

some of the players that are being overlooked are the players that will be returning on offense such as possum#20 he is a good running back and plays good aggressive defense then ward#18 as a running back. these two players have worked hard this year and really improved. wes will be returning and so will tyler brewer. jessie rose etc, these players will step up fill the shoes of the departing seniors.
10-30-2008, 10:49 AM
they are going to be a good team next year as well. the JV team did good this year and most of them will be playing varsity next year and the 8th that is coming up has alot of strength and speed.

I've been to some games and I really haven't seen #20 on the field at all. So how can you really determine whether he is a good back or not? As for Ward, I am pretty sure that he is a receiver.

Next year powell will be young
