Pikeville Practice
#61
I am sorry I left it too broad for you. As far as being an all around athlete he is definitely in the top 2-3.

I agree very good ball player, My opinion, He and Ratliff will take over at corners, and the Sr corners will be moved to OLB . Also it looks like with this tuff non district schedule and big lines Pikeville will be up against, Blake will need some shotgun, give him some time to work. Tim had the same problem last year against lex cath, those big talented lines are tough, J Central was a good example, Its early and I look for them to be tuff come district play,IMO. Go Panthers

TRAIN85 Wrote:No he did not play varsity sports in NC. Who has had trouble getting eligible?

Harris on the girls bball team, Sanders on girls bball team, Morley on the soccer team...and I'm sure there are more I can't remember right now. If he played varsity sports, in fact, even if he didn't, the school will have to apply to the KHSAA for eligibility. From reading other posts on this site, it may not be a cakewalk if he played at the varsity level. I've seen this kid play--I like him as an athlete and he can be a big plus. Good Luck kid!

There is no question that he changed his address from NC to Pikeville. Shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry, it's not about what he did, exclusively. It's about what his parents/guardians did.

His name is Houston McAnallen.

I heard of the kid, heard he is very, very quick but I also heard he had a lot of off the field problems as well. Hopefully those things have been worked out by now.

Ive known this kid for a while now and I have to say his attitude is 100% better than it was before he left so far.

Is the coaching staff willing to put a second package in on offense to get him at least 10 touches per game? Maybe a shotgun package with alot of short passes and screens. Houston is not the only one that can make plays,Baker, Ratliff , and Mullins are all playmakers. It's up to the staff to find a way to get these playmakers the football!!!!!!!!

I don't see the Pikeville staff putting in any other offensive package, for one they don't have a quarterback that can throw it on a consistent basis, and two the offense is going to be 85% Harmon, which plays right into what Coach Cokley wants to run anyway.

And right into the defenses' hands too. Pikeville better use the pass to keep defenses honest or they will see 9 or 10 in the box all year.

What do you have against Blake, you dog him on b-ball thread and now you want to talk about him on f-ball thread. If it's a personal problem I'm sure Blake or his family would be more than willing to settle up.

Lets keep things civil here guys!

I didn't even mention his name..you did. I am just calling it like I see it in practice nearly everyday. Chill out dude, it is early, maybe they will throw it all over the field when the real season gets here, who knows??

My opinion is, the QB will be just fine, they have all kinds of playmakers on that team, alot of options, I think you will see the stats spread out much more than people think. Its hard to throw and run when defenders are all over ya, no matter who you are. Power smashmouth is great if you have the line, If you dont ,you mix it up. It all starts at the line. I think you will see a mixed bag by mid season, IMO. Go Panthers

Blake Branham will be fine. Kid has worked hard and has been a hard worker through out his career...Yes, I agree with earlier statements with the athletes that Pikeville has in the skill positions there should be some type of strategy in which the ball could be spread among these players.

Again should be district champs !!! and should face Hazard in the regional finals !!!

With the addition of Houston wow!! makes this team just that more explosive. Gives them another option that will enable them to take the ball to the "house" on any given play.!!

If Pikeville is counting on Houston, all I can say is remember the Alamo....

Thanks for the attempt at humor I give you an A for effort but sadly an F in geography being that the Alamo is in San Antonio not Houston LOL!. As far being skeptical about not being able to count on Houston I dont blame you or anyone else for feeling that way given past results. But as Ive said on here before the boys attitude is leaps and bounds better than when he left here. I believe hes done some growing up while he was away. At the same time hes going to have to continue to prove that he can be trusted fully again and I think he knows and understands this. Only time will tell but I think hes gonna be OK.

It doesnt matter what offensive set we run if the line doesnt block it isnt going to work. These boys have the size and strength to get the job done up front. They just have to trust themselves and each other to get out there and do it. From what Ive seen we really made some strides in practice this week with our line.

They didn't move with him when he went to NC and therefore they didn't move with him when he came back. Sorry, that is the catch the KHSAA uses in cases when parents allow their kids to go elsewhere to play and then they return. I have seen it first hand. If he didn't play varsity sports at all, there is absolutely no problem as long as the school notifies and requests from the KHSAA eligibilty status and the school in NC confirms he played no VARSITY sports. Entering just one Varsity game can cause problems. Hope all is well. Hope he is ruled eligible. Hope he plays. Just a lot of bureaucracy that must be dealt with. I know this area. Been there, done that.
