Does anyone know who Pikeville Beat in 1955 State Championship game.

Pikeville has 3 state titles......1987, 1988, and 1989. I have never heard of them winning in the 50s.

KHSAA doesn't have any records of state titles before 1959.

It's "mythical." Means there wasn't an actual GAME between any two teams to determine the champion. Probably was coined "champion" by one of the statewide newspapers that year.
There's probably three or four other HS's that could claim the title that year due to another "authority" asserting they were the best team in the state that year.
Sounds like a crazy way of doing things, doesn't it?
Oops; that's not far off how the NCAA does it for its football champion!

Three of the last four posts are correct, although 24/7 is on the money. The C-J named state champions based on rankings and the Litkenhous formula.
