Okay, before you starting hating on me, hear me out. Does Pope deserved to be fired? Of course not. He did a solid B job this season. Some might even give him a grade of A. Pope seems like a good guy and did an admirable job putting a roster together in the short time he had. And that roster pulled off more top 15 wins than anyone ever, with the exception of '70's Duke and '90's Indiana teams. He was outcoached in some games, like tonight, but there were games when he made some nice adjustments that resulted in comeback wins.
As I've said before, it is not all about titles for me. I just like to be entertained. And this team was entertaining and fun to watch. But if NCAA titles is what you want and need to make your life complete, then I have the answer: Fire Mark Pope tonight and hire that slimy, used car salesman bast@*d, Bruce Pearl Necklace . There is no doubt in my mind that he would win multiple titles here in Lexington, and it wouldn't take him long to do it. Yes, he would bring a different type of athlete to Lexington. There would be no Mormon missionaries or Mountain Mambas, but as much as I love our Mambas, they aren't gonna take you to the mountaintop of college basketball.
Pearl would bring in guys with a different type attitude. Guys like Broome, Miles Kelly, Tahaad Pettiford, and the one and only, legend in his own mind, Chaz Baker-Mazaro. No Mormon missionaries among these four guys. Those dudes have some Demarcus Cousins nastiness in them. They're not gonna pray for you; they're gonna prey upon you. Nice guys finish tied for 6th, thug ballers finish first. Zero doubt in my mind that Pearl wins a title, maybe more , over the next four or five years, if he were in Lexington hanging banners.
I heard that Kentucky was close to bringing Pearl to Lexington, despite adament denials from both Auburn and UK. I think it was Matt Jones who said he was told Pearl was close to being hired last year. There's no doubt that sorry low-life would crawl from the Plains of Auburn to Lexington for a chance to coach home games at Rupp and show off his naked belly painted blue.
I like Mark Pope. I think he did a very good job this season. I'm not convinced, however, that he will ever win a national title here. He will have some really nice teams, and might even win a SEC title before he's done, but I doubt he wins a Natty. Bruce Pearl absolutely would, probably more than one. If titles is all that matter to you, then you need to advocate for the firing of Mark Pope and the hiring of Bruce Pearl. Change the culture => Win # 9 !!!

Your "hot take" is nothing more than a basket full of BS. It really seems to gnaw at you that Pope is a religious man. Well too bad. That has little to nothing to do with the capability of being an effective coach. I love Pope and his style of coaching. After everything is said and done, the NBA isn't for everybody; and those who DO play on that level don't have that prospect for a lifetime. The coaching philosophy of Pope is also a blueprint for life. And to me, that is much more important in the long run.

I agree with you. I can't stand Bruce Pearl. I'll take the Mormon , 6th place in the conference, and 12 losses any day of the week over the slimy used car salesman and Natty titles. I can live without championships.

We know. You would have gladly paid Cal $9MM+ for life and never got mad when he lost in the first round of SEC and NCAA tournaments to teams like St. Peter's and Oakland.

That's a lie. You follow me around on here just so that you respond to my thought experiments. Everyone on here sees how you follow me from thread to thread. You can't help yourself. As Bryan Adams might sing, much of what I say, I say for you.

Btw, for those who think that religiosity in sports gnaws at me... Not a big deal, no more than , say, a fly in my soup sort of annoyance. I'm a liberal . Live your life as you see fit is my mantra. Religiosity is silly to many of us but all I care about is having entertaining basketball to watch. I like Pope and I like Cal-two different guys with different styles and different philosophies about life. I've enjoyed watching teams of both coaches. Btw, Cal is a devout Catholic who attends Mass daily. It' s a big part of his life. That's no less silly than Pope's relkigiosity and yet I have been the biggest Cal supporter on this board for years. I overlook the silliness. I just want entertaining basketball from my coaches.
Many of you may have forgotten that I grew up a Southern Baptist---Bible School, Sunday School, Sunday morning/ Sunday night ,Training Union on Wednesday nights, revivals, vacation Bible school ,Bible camps. I've been there. done that. Do you know where I have heard the worst name-calling about Mormons and Mormonism? Correct. From the church pew in my Southern Baptist church on the corner of Fourth and Kentucky Street in downtown Corbin. We were "taught" that if you were a Morman, you were in a cult and you were going to hell. What I didn't realize at the time was that I was part of a cult, as well, right there on Fourth Street.
I don't care if we have a roster of Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses(I was actually invited to a JW Kingdom Hall once... and went---that's for another thread). I just want to be entertained by some basketball. It's not one of the really important things in life but if I'm gonna spend four hours of my time each week watching it, I want to be entertained. It was an entertaining season. Success!!!

I didn't forget that you grew up Southern Baptist, I didn't know It explains a lot to me.
Just because someone believes in God does not make them a part of organized religion.
FYI, you have no more of a right to make fun of people who are trying to live the life that they believe God wants them to live, than the Southern Baptist has to make fun of other denominations including Mormons.
I'm surprised you don't know this; being the "critical thinker" you claim to be.

Sorry, I don't believe people congregated at your church every week to make fun of other people. At least not to vast majority of them. BUT, even if they did, all humans are greatly flawed as we know. That's all the more reason to embrace God, not do the opposite like you did. Christianity isn't a "cult", that's just ignorant. The vast majority of Christians are fine people. I think you are making excuses. FWIW, I do know several people who say they stopped going to church because people were ruining it for them. Again, it's mostly excuses in my opinion. Don't let flawed PEOPLE ruin your relationship with God. That makes zero sense. And I know you decided to subscribe to the theory that in the beginning there was total nothingness and then it blew up. hahaha

I literally heard Mormon jokes and rants about Mormons going to hell and being a cult dozens and dozens of times from preachers in the pulpit of Baptist churches. And it wasn't just hate of Mormons that was spewed from the pulpit. The last night I attended a service was when a preacher used a very vulgar term from the pulpit in describing gay men and women. Churches are temples of hate. I've seen more hate in churches than I have ever seen in a homeless shelter or a Communist rally supporting the homeless. Hate is synonomous with religion. Millions have died because of religions hating other religions. I want no part of it.
Just entertain me with basketball. Keep religion out of sports.

I stand by every word. I have seen a lot of hate inside churches. Religion is despicable. I couldn't even use some of the language that I've heard from preachers when sounding off from behind the pulpit(and the hate and vulgarity getting plenty of "Amens" from the sheep in the pews).

No one is arguing your right to an opinion; no matter WHAT that opinion is. I'm saying YOU have NO right to make derogatory comments about somebody else's convictions. And as far as hate is concerned, you appear to harbor more hate in your mind that anybody else that I know.
So Pope can stay as long as YOU are entertained?? You sure do think a whole lot of yourself.
