Rick Pitino's Message to UK Fans: Show Some Class on Saturday for Cal's Return
#1
Coach P(not the Latter Day Saint) but the one who has sex with women on restaurant tables,  released a 87 second video on Twitter, telling UK to behave themselves on Saturday and give Cal a standing ovation on his return to Rupp Sunday.

My first thought... what in the holy hell is Rick Pitino doing?!?!  Does this guy really think he is Kentucky's athletic director, or something?  This should be what Mitch or the Mormon dude is out there doing. Don't get me wrong. I absolute agree with the substance of Pitino's message to UK fans. I think it would be awesome if Cal received a boisterous standing ovation Saturday. And you know what? He should get a loud standing ovation. He really should. He did a lot of really good things here in fifteen years and , quite frankly, didn't want to leave but felt it was best for all parties.

Also, what do you think St. John's fans and administrators think about Rick acting like UK's AD ?  I heard one guy say he would be mad as hell if he was a fan of St. John's. They have to be questioning whether Rick's loyalties are to the Red Storm or to Big Blue.

You know you must have some deplorables(thank you, HRC) in your fanbase if your former coach(the one who flipped you the bird) is telling you to show some class and shower Cal with kindness and appreciation. Good message from Rick but just kinda weird that he's the one doing it.

Btw, I think this might help get Cal a nicer reception on Saturday, maybe even some pretty loud applause. The Hall of Famer deserves everyone in that facility rising to their feet and giving Cal the ovation he deserves.

Fine message to BBN from the next UK athletic director, Mr. Pitino.    Can't wait to see how it goes down on Saturday.  Do you think fans follow Rick's advice and giv Cal a standing ovation in his homecoming???

Since we're still talking about this, I will put my 2 cents in, again this is my opinion and if you don't like it, then that's not my problem.

My Dad tried talking to me about this last night, I have grown tired of it, just trying to focus on the game and hopefully get a win. He said the same thing along the lines of "keep it classy and they should give him a nice reception" so here is basically what I told him verbatim.

If I was at the game tomorrow, I would absolutely, positively, 100% boo the hell out of him. Normally I would keep it classy also, but when it comes to him? There's no way. I wouldn't boo him due to the lack of success over the last 4-5 years, that was no surprise to me bc he is not a good coach, I would boo him bc of his mentality. In his mind, John Calipari was bigger than Kentucky Basketball, everyone was there to see him, that road games were everybody's super bowl, but still look at me. I hate what he turned the program into, a passerby for the NBA, it was never about the name on the front of the jersey, it was about the name on the back of the jersey and what they could do for themselves, not the betterment of the team, program, university. I am a realist, and I also understand that the players that played there had dreams of playing in the NBA and making millions, and several have gone on to do that, and a few have won championships, but damn I don't see how people kept up with learning new players names every single season. Kentucky Basketball recruited itself, tradition, prestige and history, pride of wearing that jersey, when Cal took over it didn't take long for all of that to go away, pretty much what can you do for me attitude? You come here and play basketball for a few months, then you can leave outta here and not even worry about Lexington anymore. We're back to it now, but before Cal it used to mean something to wear that jersey, my cousin wore that jersey with pride, I remember tearing up the first time I seen him in it, he wore it to represent our whole family, Cal took all that away in a blink of an eye. I am not even talking about his lackluster coaching ability, he has proven time & time again in the BIGGEST moments in the sport, that he can't coach i.e. WVU 2010 elite 8, Wisconsin Final 4 2015 to name a few. He took away what fans loved, the tradition, passion, pride to be a fan. Never took accountability, always throwing blame elsewhere when things went bad, more so than ever the last 2 years.

Also, the coach that posted this video above, Rick Pitino? He once said, "if you play for the name on the FRONT of the jersey, the name on the back will prosper." How true that is, Pitino was ahead of his time and still has his fastball at St. Johns.

I'm sure the reaction will be mixed for him, there will be a lot of cheers, and a lot of boos all the same. Again, this is my opinion about how I would react, if you don't like or agree that is fine, I don't give a damn either way. That is your right, just like it's my right to express it. All I want is a win Saturday, Arkansas has always been a big game anyways, its 10000x bigger now.

GO BIG BLUE.

You have a wise daddy. He obviously recognized the many great things that Coach Cal did for the people of this state, including but not limited to, raising millions for eastern flood victims and western Ky storm victims. Cal is clearly a man who cares about people and the young men he coaches. I absolutely agree with you, and anyone, who says everyone has the right to their opinion. 100% agree. Having said that, I have difficulty understanding the mindset of those who feel compelled to boo this HOF coach and great humanitarian, who has helped so many people across the state. I just chalk it up to youth, I guess.

Kids, listen to your wise pops.

I do have a very wise Dad, but he didn't like Cal either so I guess that's where I get my wisdom from. He just thinks that booing is a waste of time, show him the appreciation that he deserves. I will agree with you that he done a lot for the state, raising money for east & west during the disasters that happened. I am in no way bashing or saying I would boo the person he is off the court, I've never met him, but I would assume he is a genuine, good person, I'm saying that I would boo him due to the fact of what he done to the program, again acting like he was bigger than the program itself, never was accountable for anything bad that happened.

That's one thing I've always done is listen to my Dad, even the tough times in life when I didn't want to hear a word he had to say, but I am glad did.

Is Pitino's ego that large, or is he losing his mind?  If I were St. John's, we would be having a discussion.

Idk when Pitinos contract is up with St John's? But I'll tell you what this has got me thinking.  When Pitinos contract is up or when he's done at St John's,  what if Pope brings Pitino in as an assistant for the Cat's?

Pitino always said leaving UK was his biggest regret.  This would kinda give him a way to get back,  maybe make up for it somewhat.

Would this work? Pitino as a assistant under Pope at UK? Would Pitino try to override Pope in decision making,  maybe trying to act as hc?

I know football and basketball is different.  Take Chip Kelly for example.  The success he had as a hc.  He goes to OSU as offensive coordinator under Ryan Day.  Seems to have worked out good,  they just won a national title together.

Could Pope and Pitino work out together and win a national title for the Cat's? They have once already,  different circumstances,  but still.

Just something to think about  Wink

Yes, his ego is larger that John Holmes' woodpecker. Only a narcissist of magnitude 10.0 would make a video, imploring fans that he once gave the finger ,  to be nice to the guy that hated him with the fury of a thousand jihadists. Rick's ego is surpassed only by his urge to play "Hide the Italian sausage" at his table in Louisville restaurants.

Rick Pitino is my all-time favorite basketball coach, but has not always conducted himself with class against Kentucky since his departure.

Pitino is trying to help the situation and he and Cal never really cared for each other. Nothing but respect for Ricky P. Seems like he has become a better man.
