Martin county is a better basketball team from top to bottom, no doubt about that. They’re the best team in the region and maybe by a lot. Their only problem in the future may be that they know it and that makes them liable to take their foot off the gas possibly at the wrong moment against the wrong team, but I don’t think any other team in the 15th is close to them. PC and Paintsville are probably the closest, but they have glaring holes where Martin really doesn’t have any. Discipline may be the only hole they have right now but they make up for it with pure talent and hard earned skill. Congrats to them, they’re a very good basketball team.
As for the boys in red and black- I thought last night was one of the most embarrassing performances I’ve ever witnessed from a prestonsburg athletic team. Keithley looked like the only one of them who really wanted to be out there. Semi-finals of the All A at the expo and you can’t get up for that? Can’t even give effort and compete? I don’t see how that’s possible. It boggles my mind. Maybe the game was too big for us, but that’s a pretty poor excuse. Didn’t take care of the ball, didn’t play defense, didn’t hit open looks, didn’t rebound. Didn’t show up at all. God bless Keithley, because without him I don’t think we score 20 points against Martin. I’ve been kind of down on Keithley this year wondering why he doesn’t spread the rock around more, but now I realize that he might be the only true competitor we have on this team. He’s a competitor and he needs to win. I understand that just as well as many Blackcats who came before him, but he seems to be by himself in that desire. It must be extremely hard for him to be the only one who needs to win. But to lay an egg like that on that big of a stage after picking up the momentum we did in winning the last 5 games is absolutely embarrassing. One of the worst all-time performances in the weak history of Pburg basketball.
Is it October yet?

Was there for this one last night, and I'm sure glad I wasn't the only one who seen what kind of game this was. A lot of shit talking both ways, they don't even let them away with that in College & NBA, but I guess it's ok in the 15th Region.
How Pburg was down 5 at half, I'll never know. Effort wasn't there from the opening tip outside of Keathley, just went through the motions. Martin Co relies a lot on their athleticism, there's really no structure or discipline within their offense, transition run & gun, then hoisting up plenty of 3's especially in half court.
This was my first time seeing them play, and like previously mentioned, they aren't as good as advertised. Don't get me wrong they're a good team, but I'm just not seeing it as to how they've been hyped up as much as they have. Like I said they have a ton of size & athleticism to match that size, but they just have no discipline at all. I'm not sure how they've been in other games, but they were doing any and everything they could to get in Prestonsburg's head and it worked, but what really got me was they were still doing it in the 4th qtr up by 20 points, then JJ gets a technical. One thing I've always paid attention to is how a team can play relative to the identity & style of their coach, and you can definitely see the similarities there, and they're not good.
Prestonsburg has to figure things out, already been said on here but you're playing in the ALL A Semi-finals (which desperately needs to get out of the Expo Center but that's another story for another thread) but might as well stayed at the house. You could easily see the body language during warm-ups that this wasn't going to be a good night, then it translated when the game started, energy was flat. Martin Co would extend the lead but Pburg would get right back in it, mainly bc Martin Co would get complacent and let them back in it. Think Keathley finished with 38, he had to earn em everyone, but you can't beat a team by yourself.
Friday night will be a war between 2 district rivals and no love lost there at all. Should be a dandy.

One word, Embarrassing! That's all I am going to say. Both teams, both coaching staffs, everyone that was involved.
